the worst experience. Made an early appointment to fit my work schedule. Had an appointment at 8:30 waiting for 45 minutes to learned that the dentist would not take me until 9:30. nobody said anything. When I asked, the assistant said we have earlier appointments and dismissed the fact that the service was going to be provided an hour after the appointment should have started. I left without the service i needed done, and feeling like they did not care to make the situation better. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Really really impeccable experience here. I first went to the Cobble Hill location back in October, but when I went to check in for my second cleaning, realised that this Park Slope location opened up a month after. I was happy to see the same style/set up as the other location, and the same sense of calm and positivity. The aesthetics and final touches all make the experience memorable -- decor, sunglasses for the bright lights, and also noise-cancelling headphones to watch Netflix while those scary torture devices are used to give you those clean pearly whites. Feels so corporate - the opposite of your neighborhood dentist. The front desk staff is nice and everyone is good enough at their jobs but it's just such a cold, transactional experience. It's so obviously backed by private equity. In and out and gimme your money. I finally stopped going because I mixed up days and missed an "appointment" to pick up my night guard and they charged me $250...not joking. Go somewhere else. My visit was intended to be a consultation for Invisalign and Breezy Braces, and Dr. Guzman explained both of the options and helped me decide what would be best for me. I am a Tend patient, and scheduled an emergency dental appointment with Tend because I was in severe pain. The appointment Tend gave me was for 7:50 AM at 1/15 at the Park Slope location at 215 Flatbush Avenue. Before leaving my house, I checked the app and my phone to make sure Tend had not made any changes to my appointment. When I arrived for my appointment at 215 Flatbush Avenue, the location was completely locked and closed. Despite scheduling the appointment, there were no staff there. Another patient in severe pain also showed up about a minute later. It was in the twenties and very windy and we stood there in the cold waiting for staff that never arrived. I tried calling Tend as well and no one picked up. I left a voice mail. Tend charges no-show patients $100 for an exam, and $250 to no-show patients if they miss a dental treatment appointment. But Tend is willing to no-show their patients without so much as a text or call to cancel the appointment, with zero regard to the pain they are in or their time. Been frustrated with this place for a while after inconsistent experiences and communications. Today was the last straw when I came in for my cleaning (that I confirmed multiple times due to the constant texts and emails they send you), only to be told 5 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start that I would have to reschedule my exam and they could only do the cleaning. Ridiculous operation. Second time my boyfriend has had wisdom teeth pulled and had issues with the subsequent pain medication. They "send it" to a pharmacy that has no record of it in the system, or they send it to a pharmacy that doesn't even carry said medication. You're left in pain scrambling; calling Tend back, keep getting put on hold; getting told you'll be called back; trying to liaise having it sent to another pharmacy that you research yourself. Two hours later you might have the pain meds after having endured excruciating pain and phone tag with Tend and various pharmacies. read more

I never write bad reviews, but this review is more of a word of caution for people. I have never had any dental issues in my life. I go for regular cleanings every six months and have really healthy teeth. I just moved to Brooklyn, and I wanted to try tend because I thought it was intriguing. I came here for a regular cleaning, which included doing X-rays. After reading the X-rays, the dentist wanted to do all kinds of procedures that would've cost thousands of dollars (on top of having insurance) they wouldn't give me a cleaning until I had the other procedures booked and done. I felt like this was a red flag, so I went for a second opinion somewhere else. I'm really happy I did that because the dentist I saw, said none of the procedures tend suggested were necessary... and having read further into it could've been really bad for my teeth. read more

I've had three appointments at Tend and I have to finally admit that I'm disappointed. Their facilities are all very nice and they have beautiful branding, but ultimately a dental practice needs more than a fancy selfie sink. My main issue was that on multiple occasions I was quoted a price for a service, only to find out at the next appointment that the price was actually going to be higher. In the case of getting braces, $1000 higher. I was initially seduced by their millennial branding and the promise of a better, reinvented way of what ordinarily is a drab and miserable experience. Tend is a convenient and stress free dentist office. They take a lot of insurance options and you can manage appointments online or over the phone. I went to the one in Park Slope and it was clean with nice front desk staff. The waiting area is a little small but you can easily stand or wait outside. On your first visit they give you a toothbrush with their signature toothpaste. They also offer space to test them both out with sinks behind the waiting area. I have had both a cleaning and sealant from them and both were great. For the cleaning they use a water pick which I'm not always the biggest fan of but it's supposed to be easier on your enamel than the metal tools. The sealant procedure took all of 15/20 min and was one of the best I've had. I've already set up some whitening treatments with them as well. If you're covered by them and looking for a dentist, Tend is a great option. read more

They're just not a real dentist office that cares about the individual patients. I've had great experiences with all my providers there but the machine doesn't allow for situations outside the norm. I was told I need 2 root canals redone and 'don't wait'. They gave me a referral to an endodontist who doesn't accept my insurance. I found one who does but they need a referral from my dentist. I called and waited on hold for HOURS to get this letter and when I finally got an email it just contained the name of the endodontist who doesn't take my insurance! No proper referral. I replied to that email with what I need and 3 days later- no response. If you can, go do a dentist that's not a pretty, mint green factory who doesn't care about the people they see. read more

I wish I would have read these reviews before I went to Tend on a friends recommendation... TLDR; They will perform every x-ray/test/scan possible and recommend you get every single procedure done. Cleaning was rough too. Long story -- I moved in 2021, and I was farther away from my usual dentist -- later in 2021 I got dental insurance, so I decided I should go back to the dentist for the first time since COVID. A friend recommended Tend, but I will never be going back. They were VERY thorough in their scans... I had multiple types of x-rays and photos taken of my teeth from every angle imaginable....only to find out a few days later that my insurance doesn't cover regular x-rays AND panoramic ones in the same calendar year...so I may be out $275(!) The cleaning was a little rough/hurt more than it usually does, but I just chalked it up to the fact I hadn't gone in a while. They did give you sunglasses to wear, which I thought was a nice touch since the water from the cleaning can splash on your face/glasses and the lights can be kind of bright. Then the dentist comes in and proceeds to look at my teeth/all the images, and tells me I have 3 cavities (one of them replacing an old filling, like someone else mentioned in their review), I need to have 2 wisdom teeth removed, and then before she leaves she asks me if I've ever had braces...I felt like she was trying to push their braces on me because at no point did I ever mention I was interested in getting braces/was unhappy with my teeth...when I repeatedly told her I had them 20+ years ago, she decided to add a ($600) retainer to my treatment plan....why I'm sill not sure. I felt very uncomfortable when I left, and didn't make any followup appointments. I immediately called my old dentist. He looked at my teeth/the treatment plan that I got from Tend, and said it was ridiculous. He said yes I had ONE cavity, but I definitely did not need a retainer or oral surgery. In Tend's treatment plan they had over $2000 worth of procedures scheduled for me. I also realized that after the fact I didn't like how you couldn't see which doctors were at Tend/choose one, and that they were just going to assign me an oral surgeon that worked at Tend. UPDATED --- I thought it was important to add... Tend charged my insurance $950. On the Tend website it says "first dental exam $350"...I'm not sure where that comes from. On the insurance claim they charged $225 for a cleaning and $200 for "comprehensive." Not sure if $350 is the rate if you don't have insurance..but I would get clarity on that before you book your apt!! read more

Tend has a very clean presentation, but beyond that it is incredibly disorganized, and the the service is some of the worst you will ever get from a Dentist Office. You cannot call this office, you can only call a hotline with typical hold times around 30 minutes if you have an issue. They will not give you the office phone number even upon request! I first visited Tend in early 2022 where I was told that I would need to get a crown replaced and do a course of periodontal treatment. Over the course of the next two years, I rarely have had the same Dentist and have had to explain what I am there for on multiple occasions. They just had no idea what the nature of my appointment was! I have worked with 5- let me say that again- 5 different dentists without my knowing. I went to get my crown finally delivered after over a year with multiple surgeries, and it the lab sent the wrong tooth! It is horrible to go to the Dentist and not know who you will be seeing Cost transparency is also awful. I went into the appointment a bit skeptical but left really impressed by how kind and knowledgeable the hygienist and dentist were. They walked me through every step before it was done and answered every question I had along the way. Once you've entered your "dental suite" and you're waiting for the cleaning to begin, the vibe is very young and feels like everyone is having a good time. So if you're a dentist traditionalist that might be an adjustment, but I enjoyed it... I think. Also, I got to watch Great British Bake Off while having my teeth cleaned so that was pretty great. My only note, and it's such a small one, is that they give you a set of Beats headphones so you can listen to what you're watching which is really nice but because they're so heavy and I was constantly readjusting them. Luckily, I had no complications (cavities or the like) but I received a consultation on my wisdom teeth and felt very confident in my dental team. I've been a patient for 3 years. Switched to park slope location and things really started getting bad. They forgot to take my x-rays, I had continual issues with them figuring out my insurance, then had them be dishonest about not doing root canals. They aren't upfront about other services being out of network. So they'll have one provider be in network and then you'll need a filling or root canal - but that person (despite working AT tend) isn't in network w your insurance. They were always trying to charge for additional services. Would cancel appointments without telling me. Charge an obscene amount of money if you cancel (I never did). I finally quit them totally today because I had a true emergency dental issue with tons of pain in my tooth. They left me on hold for 35 minutes, were dishonest about being able to provide a root canal and even when I was in extreme pain, tried to sell me additional appointments I didn't need. Crazy bad experience. Ok if you just need them to do a cleaning, maybe. read more

I went in for a routine cleaning and Invisalign consult, and after having my original appointment rescheduled twice by Tend, I didn't get either at the appointment. I waited about 30 minutes in the waiting room (I was early, so not a huge deal to me), had X-rays taken once I was in the exam room, and then was told that there wasn't time for a cleaning and that I'd have to reschedule. When I asked about my Invisalign consult, they also asked me to reschedule. I was confused, as my appointment confirmation said it would last 90 minutes and that it was for a cleaning and consult, but I was in and out of the exam room in less than 30 minutes. Unfortunately, there were no openings that worked for me in the next two months, so I would have to wait another two months just to get a cleaning (my original appointment was in October, it's now December, and my next appointment would be in February). That being said, the staff was kind, I just wish I would've been told that I was going in for X-rays only and not anything else that I had scheduled. They have a really nice setup as far as dentistry goes. I didn't think I would give a shit about watching Netflix while in the dentist chair, but I actually enjoyed it. You get to chose what you want to watch when you make the appointment. I had an emergency and they worked me in today to alleviate my pain, which was great. Then they informed me of future work I'll need to resolve my specific issue and were up front about the associated costs since I don't have insurance. Their app is pretty cool as well, they summarize what they did each visit. They also let you download the pictures they took of my teeth, so I could send it to my dental hygienist friends. It will be a nice reference down the line as I never could remember when my last visit to the dentist was?
