Not a ton of ambience in the little cottage they call home, but both the coffee and espresso options delivered in terms of freshness and quality. My one note (and it's not really a complaint, but was odd) is that my cheddar and chive scone was a like for like replica of a Red Lobster biscuit. Very strange how I discovered this place. I'm having coffee in Queens and I started talking to this woman about.. Coffee? She tells me how she found this place out east that sells chocolates, baked goods and of course, organic coffee. That's like a trifecta in the BillySalts world. I asked, how far out east? Now mind you, when people say "out east" they could be talking about Hicksville. Its in a town in Suffolk called Shirley?? Wait a second I work in NYC but I live out "east". I grew up in Holbrook and my teenage beach was Smiths Point. Shirley? Hmm.. I must investigate! I grab my sons and off we go. Now I'm a fan of any roasting coffee house in Long Island. We need at least a dozen more of these places, preferably on the North Shore where I live. So I walk into a store that, kinda looks like it was decorated by the DMV. Drab cream colored walls and some cheap ass tables. But I spy with my little eye in the corner, a huge roaster. Now we're talkin' baby cakes. They have a large selection of coffees, my oldest decides on a mint iced coffee, little guy wants to try their coffee blend in a cup with me. I ask about the baked goods. What type of bar is this? Oh, its sea salted caramel and baked right here in Shirley. Wait, what did you say?? I'll take that was well as this chocolate bar that was also made on Long Island. I also bought a pound of their "Rhino Chaser", a dark roasted, organic coffee. Heaven! Their website also offers organic chocolates that isn't sold in the store. I'm digging this place and I start talking to the counterperson. She asks where I'm from. I tell her Port Jeff area and she says, oh we have a booth at the farmers market there every Sunday. Tend is in my town?? Now I must be in heaven! Great coffee! if your going to the beach, don't go to Dunkin Donuts, yuckk.. Come here for locally sourced coffee and support a Long Island business! The price is fairly inexpensive, compare to like a Starbucks. FYI you would have to go around the back to order. The wait time to get your coffee is very short. I love this coffee shop! I frequently stop here on my way to work. Starbucks does not compare to the quality of Tend. Whatever I get, never disappoints. They are super organized and try to get to know their locals. I order on the joe app and it's always been ready on time. The staff are always pleasant when ordering at the counter too! I love getting the cortado or matcha latte. I've also tried their frozen lemonade which is awesome because it is not overly sweet. If you want flavor added to your coffee, they have so many to choose from. They have the decaf option on all of their drinks as well. Their scones and pastries are delicious! SO happy to have this coffee place near our new apartment. I wish it was on my way to work--it blows any big-box coffee stop out of the water. My go-to anywhere is a standard latte, which they do very well. It is robust but not too strong. I've gotten it with and without vanilla flavoring and honestly prefer it without. The espresso comes through nicely and is a bit fruity. My boyfriend's go-to is an iced mocha, which they also do very well! At some places you're stuck with iced coffee, milk, and Hershey syrup, but they do a great job here. Not sure where the pastries are from but the almond croissant is a guilty pleasure for me. read more

Eh. It was really just okay. I've never been here before and while I was asking the barista questions she seemed annoyed with me. Very cold personality. Anyway, after reading some reviews, I went with the rainbow cookie latte. It was pretty good. Definitely had a rainbow cookie taste. I had asked for it with almond milk. When I watched the other barista make my drink it looked like he made it with whole milk...when I questioned him he assured me it was almond milk. Alright, cool. Local favorite and I had to see for myself ! They had the greatest holiday mix of lattes and we tried the caramel brûlée and the peppermint latte. Both were delicious !! The coffee was flavorful and bold. The caramel brûlée was a bit sweet, nothing an extra shot of espresso couldn't take care of next time !
