To start, the atmosphere is ideal for a beautiful summer night. It was airy, clean, lively and so inviting with twinkling ceiling lights. My family of 5 loved the overall decor. We also loved the view, ocean air and beautiful breeze as we ate the delicious food. We felt like we were on a Cape vacation. The food was just as satisfying. My husband said the baked haddock was the very best he's ever had. My Mediterranean salmon was also outstanding. My mother and sister raved about their appetizers, including jumbo shrimp, clams and steamers. Everything we ordered was excellent. I was especially pleased with the serving size. Some restaurants have a nice presentation, yet small serving size, but not Seaport, it had both. To top it off, the Sherry Berry is a dessert everyone must try! Perfect finish to a perfect meal. In addition to the restaurant itself and amazing food, the service was excellent. We were greeted by the extremely friendly manager, Carter, and were well taken care of by our personable waitress Kristina. She was so attentive and pleasant throughout our whole meal. Kristina was so busy, but she made us feel like we were her only party! By the end of our meal, we felt we made a friend during dinner and we will be back to see her requesting her table! You can eat out on their deck or there's a nice view of the harbor. There are two bars and I imagine it gets pretty packed in the summer. I send people here when asked where to go for standard fish and chips fare and feel vindicated now that I've returned in the off season. On the negative side- the vibe is corporate- like you're eating in a hotel lobby in the Midwest. There was one piece of art that looked local and if not for that, you could have been anywhere. Not a damning criticism but also the music made me feel like I was in Ohio not Gloucester. Someone had the station on contemporary country and it was loud. Men singing about going home with drunk women with low self esteem and trying to win back custody of their kids- it's the worst vibe for me. I kept looking at the waitresses trying to determine which one I could pay to change it. If the food wasn't so good and the staff wasn't so nice I would have left. There were so few other customers compared to the other restaurants we passed by I wondered if it was because the music was the reason. There's a way to say "we are a working class hangout " without blasting music that glorifies heavy drinking and dim wits in the background. The restaurant owners have curated every other aspect of the experience- they should go to Oak to Ember or the Franklin at night and realize that the music in addition to the atmosphere makes it or breaks it.

The lobster was dry, gummy and the meat pieces were small and sparse. For $40, which is more than a lobster roll with 4 times the meat and 10 times the quality costs in Boston, it was a bit of a rip-off. On the positive side, the tater tots were great. They were crispy and served piping hot fresh. They probably came from a frozen bag, but they were made well. The fish chowder was not bad. Although the soup was not very rich and somewhat underseasoned, the fish seemed fresh and was flaky and tasty. Fries were not great (likely also from a bag, under seasoned, fast-food thin, and served lukewarm). The atmosphere may merit a visit for drinks, but food may be a gamble.

I also bought 30lbs of Jonah crabs as they were $1 per pound. Needless to say, we had plenty of seafood to share amongst the family that weekend. The seafood was fresh and priced well. The steamers didn't have any sand, and were sizeable for what they were. The jonah crabs were an excellent value and the meat was a combo of sweetness and saltiness. The lobsters were firm shell I believe and tasted great. I have yet to get to the frozen stuffies...but I'm looking forward to it...just wish they were a little closer to me lol

Pines stones but no…read moreghosts The Old Burial Ground is a very old graveyard indeed. The sign in front says 1661 and it is the oldest graveyard in the town of Manchester By-the-Sea. There are records of an older one but it is long forgotten and no longer exists. This ancient graveyard does look old, very old. Many of the gravestones are worn away and the oldest ones I could read were from the early 1700's. It's obvious that the broken and impossible to read stones are much older. The cemetery is a lovely place, lots of tall pine trees grow around, beside and even up through some of the ancient stones. It actually smells great, with the scent of pine permeating the air. One surprising fact about this ancient place is that there are no legends of ghosts or hauntings. Quite surprising since virtually all old and spooky graveyards have a least a few resident mischievous spirits hanging around. Perhaps it is just so old that even the ghosts got tired and just want to rest.
