This was my first time to the Harvard Art Museum and I loved it...it's so big and varied. You can…read moreenjoy paintings from masters as well as interesting culture from the ancient times. There are many docents and security people around in case you have questions. The main benefit is that it is FREE. The collections include approximately 250,000 objects in all media, ranging in date from antiquity to the present and originating in Europe, North America, North Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. The museum has a large collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works that contains many famous masterpieces, including paintings and sculptures by Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent van Gogh. The main building contains 204,000 square feet of space for public exhibitions, classrooms, conservation and research labs, and other related functions. Just a great way to spend a few hours if you are in the area.

Another cool statue that you can stumble upon just walking through Boston. During the Boston marathon weekend this one of the statues the city put a participant bib on. The only one statue I saw with a bib was the Democratic Donkey by old city hall. Makes me wonder how many statues in the city does Boston put bibs on during marathon weekend.

For that reason, this statue holds a special place in my heart (as I'm sure it is for thousands more like me who love his literature). It's a beautifully designed bronze sculpture created by Stefanie Rocknak in 2014. It is located at the Edgar Allan Poe Square. As he was originally from Boston, it seems a fitting tribute to his memory.

I so wish I lived closer so I could take it all in over several visits. The mineral and rocks area especially drew lots of my attention and I spent way too much time there and slowed us down a good bit. It's was so freaking cool though! Giant wads of gold and precious metals everywhere. Things I have never seen. Wonderful things! Also.... They have dinosaurs and so many cool things. Coming here was way more impressive than I expected. I walked in thinking I'd be here for a few minutes and go right back out- but nope. MIT grabbed my brain and shook it around. Almost every exhibit actually does something instead of just sitting there behind glass. You can roam both floors to your heart's content and nobody bothers you. We came across a demonstration on sleep patterns and my daughter and I were absolutely fascinated- both by the topic and by the young gentleman leading it. He may have been a student? In any case, the museum is clean, with every corner feeling fresh.. The areas are spotless, the floors shine like nobody's business and even the smallest details like the signs and display cases, look maintained- as they should. Hell, even the bathroom is presentable and bright white. If you're into learning, cool tech (or not) and experiments, MIT is absolutely worth it. $20 Adults, $10 Students. It was so nice to spend time in our son's friends studio and see how the artist created his works, displayed them and greeted all of the visitors. Each studio was unique and impressive. This visit was 10/3, but I am eager to return again in the early spring to explore further. I will say, while most artists and shop people were friendly, a few were a bit standoffish. Maybe it is exhausting hosting so many people who are flowing through all day & evening. I loved the whole concept !

The class focused on a number of different areas and aligned with the STEAM curriculum. My husband and I were extremely impressed with how the workshop tied the activity of building a sustainable option for the city in with real world examples and ultimately having the children design and build a model out of legos. We are definitely going to look into more classes and workshops for our kids at Maud Morgan Arts Center.

This day, I found myself curious of the shops around & entered Brookline Booksmith w/ an optimistic mind! Okay, so I was totally not expecting this store to be so big. It has two sides, one with little Knick knacks, stationery items, + gifts & the other side was mostly books! They had a great selection of books, basically most things you could find at your local Barnes & Noble, just with a better gift selection hahaha. The gift side reminded me of the paper store almost BUT BETTER. This little-known micropark is an undiscovered gem in miniature: a 20 foot oval featuring a single…read moretree surrounded by a riot of colorful plantings, especially vivid in Spring. It's located where Little Mass Ave (as it's known by the locals) forks off from Mass Ave between Chauncy and Waterhouse Street. A memorial plaque on the Mass Ave side marks the Jardin De Sparquette, named in honor of the gardener's beloved pet dachshund "Sparky" who passed away in 2008. Now it's a favorite spot for local dog owners to stop and let their pets do their business. Be sure to wander by and admire the carefully tended tulips and exotic ground cover. Don't blink or you may miss it entirely.
