It's time I update my review from 2011, as my family continues to support this local business. Tempura has improved their "lewk," now offering booth seating, a full menu displayed behind the order counter, outside seating too. They do offer in-restaurant dining, and takeout (apparently you can also order takeout and delivery directly through their Yelp page); but my family mainly orders catering platters to-go. You can order full trays or half trays. Our go-tos: Palak paneer Biryani (typically chicken or veggie) I don't eat meat, but the fam also loves chicken korma, chicken tikka, and naan and paratha bread galore! They carry the party trays out to your car, which is always helpful.

From the buffet.... chicken tikka, lahori fish, kabobs, potatoes, chicken karhai. Naan and accessories.

Buffets can either be a bust or a bulls eye, depending upon the time of the day that you hit the buffet. In my case, I came here on a sunday right at noon, when the restaurant opens up. Upon entering, we were asked to be seated anywhere, and the manager advised us about a 2-3 wait as they were bringing fresh items from the kitchen and stocking up the buffet bar. It was a nice sized buffet selection. From the likes of chicken tikka, to kabobs, nihari, biryani, lahori fish, chicken karhai, curried potatoes, and other similar items. As I am selective about items from the buffet, I went with my 5 standard items: chicken tikka, kabob, fish, chicken karhai and potatoes. You can unlimited naan and all the salad items are at the end of the buffet line. I was stuffed after my hearty meal, and I believe I arrived at the right time. Our items were fresh and delicious. Plenty of flavor and right amount of seasoning and spice. One good thing about this restaurant is that in addition to the buffet, you can order from the a la carte menu too.

Updated review. Still 5 stars!!! We've been to numerous other Indian restaurants and buffets and none come close to how good the food is here! There is a large selection of dishes to choose from. The buffet is always fresh and delicious and the manager Eddie is always walking around the floor making sure all the guests are happy and well taken care of. We come here every Sunday and the food never disappoints!

Love this place and food is amazing and good Quality Highly recommend this place for catering for weddings and dinner party's .

This is the only variety of meat on the buffet. With only about 10-12 items on the buffet...i was completely disappointed.

I like to pride myself in the saying that "I will try anything once." Well...almost. When it comes to food, anything but blow fish and/or insects. Under the heading of that slogan of mine, I am always up for trying new things. Let me be clear. I have not tried Indian food but once before. That one time was somewhere off Harwin and more than 10 years ago. All I remember was people telling me if you want spicy, try Indian food, and I did, and it wasn't ....bad. Since then I've heard pretty much the same thing from many people and that's what landing me at Tempura BBQ Grill. Don't let the name fool ya. It's Indian food. And don't let the word buffet fool ya... they have about 12 items on it. And if you missed that let's try this... TWELVE! And just if you missed that one... one last try... XII. That includes the soups...so 10. And of those 10, maybe and I do mean maybe... 5 meat items. And I tried every single one of them. The difference between my untouched plate and my finished plate is about one bite from each item. Simply put... I like it not. Oh wait! Whew, I almost misspoke and I don't wanna do that. I had 2 refills of the best on the buffet... Mountain Dew! So perhaps I just don't like Indian food. I want to like it because I hear so much about it and it's all positive. Perhaps I need to try something off the menu instead.. but I don't know what to order. I would have loved to try the tempura shrimp but they don't put it on the menu anymore as was referenced in one of the photos. Perhaps I've just been out of luck in finding the right Indian food restaurant. Or.. perhaps my taste buds are right and this place was just not good. Well, regardless of all the perhaps..ses. (new word). I won't be going back and I will still be on the search for good spicy Indian food. Until then... ...Dew and Prosper!

Just tried this place by my house my friend took us to, we loved it! He rebranded their stuff and it looks spiffy. My favorites were the chicken tikka, chicken tikka masala and the fry paratha (sooo good!!!) It's really nice inside but with today's awesome weather we opted to sit on their patio.

1.59 Garlic naan

Nice mom and pop dive. The chana dahl was really good. It had great flavor. You can tell the time and care it took to make. Ordered garlic naan for 1.59 extra. Wished it came with rice but almost everything is a la carte. Priced good and nice portions. Downside was no plastic wear nor any napkins. I don't think these are items someone has to ask for. Being in a hotel and having to go out to fetch one is not the best experience. Never the less I would definitely recommend it if you are in the Cypress area. The grill items look amazing.

The tea stand, handmade antique teapot and tea cups are so cute. Love the butterfly pea flower tea. It is such a gorgeous shade of indigo blue. They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions for no pork or shellfish. Thank you! Loved the tiny spoons filled with appetizers and desserts. The Thai High Tea is available Fridays to Sundays from 11:30-3PM. A deal at $35 for two people. Would definitely come back to enjoy another Thai High Tea or dinner. We appreciated that kind gesture. Every food item on the menu looked delicious. I decided on the Lamb Rack. Loved the texture of the lamb and loved the basmati rice. Lamb was cooked perfectly, and the rice was very fragrant. We were offered a complimentary Persian Ice Cream Sandwich which had an unique flavor. It wouldn't be a flavor for everyone, but to me, it was a perfect ending to a great entree as it was light and mildly sweet. Note that not all food options are halal. Their website is updated with the information and you could also ask the server for clarification. Absolutely adore the interior. The restaurant could get loud but still bearable. By the time we got to our table, we had only an hour to dine before the restaurant closes. Thankfully, our wonderful server was quick to get us settled in and that made up for the slow start. We tried a few dishes and found the starters to be more tasty than the main entree. Shirazi Salad, Rumi's Wings, Crispy Potato, Cremini & Oyster Mushroom Hummus was well worth sharing plates. Unfortunately, the Chicken Kabob lacked seasoning and any depth of flavor. It was the least favorite dish of the night. We also sampled every single desserts on the menu, but only the Majoon Toffee Cake won us over with its deliciously warm and comforting sweetness. While we enjoyed some dishes, the overall taste was just average for an upscale establishment. One major detail was the underwhelming of plating when it can play a vital role in how food is perceived. A little more finesse could really add value to the dining experience.

It just doesn't compare to the real BBQ joints in Houston. Somewhat tough in parts. Not much bark. The sausage was the absolute worst I've ever had anywhere in my life. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. It went in the trash. Saffron rice was my ok, pointless really. Mac 'n cheese very plain Jane. The ice in my soda smelled funny. They did have some good employees. Service was great. They get a second star just for that. Don't think I'll be going back. I just have to say that I've been to some really crappy, run-down BBQ restaurants over the years. Old places where the owners are burned out and the staff doesn't care. Corners are cut and they just barely try. I'm sure you can think of some BBQ hole in the walls like that. As bad as they are with their Ekrich sausage, Van Camps pork 'n beans, Walmart meats, and KC Masterpiece bbq sauce - even they are better than Levant BBQ.

As I see the entrance, love the decor, ambiance, and the whole seating area with bar in the middle, flowers and sculptures is cute and insta worthy. I was sat down at 8 pm, my server was great, he does talk a lot but that's his personality. From the server standpoint service was great. Now the food, I ordered Mithus shrimp and butter chicken experience. I asked for spicy for both dishes. Shrimp and the sauce, really good, came with soft buns. Delicious! Although it was not spicy at as asked. The butter chicken experience was very disappointing for me - it came in 3 sauces, white, tomatillo and traditional. I felt they needed a bit of flavor, something more bold. I felt meh the whole time as I have had better butter chicken. Mind you, I'm Punjabi and this is owned by Punjabis so I was surprised the food was tasted by someone and was said this is ok. The traditional was my biggest meh, as the sauce was way too tangy, that is not butter chicken though. Now service, although server was great, my food was severely late, I was literally scrolling on my phone starving. Nothing was offered by staff to make up for it. When I say late - I sat down at 8 pm, I ordered both - app and main dish at the same time. My butter chicken did not hit my table till 9:30 pm. I almost wanted to walk out. The restaurant really need to step up their flavor game and service game. Overall, nothing to rave about, or make an effort to come back unless they really make it better. I have had better Indian food let alone Michelin, which again has been a great experience in New York, Chicago, DC and in Europe. I think the severely late food service, and lack of flavors, and keeping it so bland despite asking for spicy, killed it for me.

I'm always happy to discover a good restaurant recommendation, and this one definitely did not disappoint. They had someone out front handing out samples of their Jollof rice, curry sauce, and stewed plantains, which were part of their Golden Bowl. I'm not a big plantain person, so I initially asked for mine without them. But, I decided to give them a try anyway, both with and without them. I'm glad I did because the plantains actually added a really nice balance to the dish. The combination of the rice, curry, and plantains was mostly savory with just a hint of sweetness. Hands down, this was my favorite dish. I also have to give a shout out to the woman out front handling the samples. I spoke with her the most, and she did a really good job of selling the restaurant. She was welcoming, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience enjoyable. Sometimes it's the little things, like someone taking the time to introduce you to the food and make recommendations, that can really make a difference. All in all, ChopNBlok was a great find, and I'm glad my friend recommended it. I don't live in the area, but if I ever find myself back there, I would definitely return for the Golden Bowl.
