We are originally from Michigan where we we have been spoiled with good Indian/Pakistani and Middle Eastern food. Since we moved to the Central Texas we have not been having much luck and enjoyed these kind of cuisines. We are so glad we food this restaurant and we get to enjoy the fabulous authentic food ! It's time I update my review from 2011, as my family continues to support this local business. Tempura has improved their "lewk," now offering booth seating, a full menu displayed behind the order counter, outside seating too. They do offer in-restaurant dining, and takeout (apparently you can also order takeout and delivery directly through their Yelp page); but my family mainly orders catering platters to-go. You can order full trays or half trays. Our go-tos: Palak paneer Biryani (typically chicken or veggie) I don't eat meat, but the fam also loves chicken korma, chicken tikka, and naan and paratha bread galore! They carry the party trays out to your car, which is always helpful. read more

Taste of biryani is inconsistent and barely any meat in a full size tray, they just fill it up with potatoes. We literally had 2 tiny cubes of beef in a full tray that we paid 135 without tax for. This was also not a single isolated event, same thing happened at a family dinner party so before we placed our order we made sure they didn't skimp on the meat but lo and behold, NO MEAT! Buffets can either be a bust or a bulls eye, depending upon the time of the day that you hit the buffet. In my case, I came here on a sunday right at noon, when the restaurant opens up. Upon entering, we were asked to be seated anywhere, and the manager advised us about a 2-3 wait as they were bringing fresh items from the kitchen and stocking up the buffet bar. It was a nice sized buffet selection. From the likes of chicken tikka, to kabobs, nihari, biryani, lahori fish, chicken karhai, curried potatoes, and other similar items. As I am selective about items from the buffet, I went with my 5 standard items: chicken tikka, kabob, fish, chicken karhai and potatoes. You can unlimited naan and all the salad items are at the end of the buffet line. I was stuffed after my hearty meal, and I believe I arrived at the right time. Our items were fresh and delicious. Plenty of flavor and right amount of seasoning and spice. One good thing about this restaurant is that in addition to the buffet, you can order from the a la carte menu too. read more

Drove 25 min to bring Take away order : Purchased chicken Biryani and when got home it smelled so bad when opened. For sure it was not today's fresh biryani. They made us drive 25 back to get it replace and no apologies. Not worth it. Be careful when pick up food in the middle of the week. read more

I like to pride myself in the saying that "I will try anything once." Well...almost. When it comes to food, anything but blow fish and/or insects. Under the heading of that slogan of mine, I am always up for trying new things. Let me be clear. I have not tried Indian food but once before. That one time was somewhere off Harwin and more than 10 years ago. All I remember was people telling me if you want spicy, try Indian food, and I did, and it wasn't ....bad. Since then I've heard pretty much the same thing from many people and that's what landing me at Tempura BBQ Grill. Don't let the name fool ya. It's Indian food. And don't let the word buffet fool ya... they have about 12 items on it. And if you missed that let's try this... TWELVE! And just if you missed that one... one last try... XII. That includes the soups...so 10. And of those 10, maybe and I do mean maybe... 5 meat items. And I tried every single one of them. The difference between my untouched plate and my finished plate is about one bite from each item. Simply put... I like it not. Oh wait! Whew, I almost misspoke and I don't wanna do that. I had 2 refills of the best on the buffet... Mountain Dew! So perhaps I just don't like Indian food. I want to like it because I hear so much about it and it's all positive. Perhaps I need to try something off the menu instead.. but I don't know what to order. I would have loved to try the tempura shrimp but they don't put it on the menu anymore as was referenced in one of the photos. Perhaps I've just been out of luck in finding the right Indian food restaurant. Or.. perhaps my taste buds are right and this place was just not good. Well, regardless of all the perhaps..ses. Nice mom and pop dive. The chana dahl was really good. It had great flavor. You can tell the time and care it took to make. Ordered garlic naan for 1.59 extra. Wished it came with rice but almost everything is a la carte. Priced good and nice portions. Downside was no plastic wear nor any napkins. I don't think these are items someone has to ask for. Being in a hotel and having to go out to fetch one is not the best experience. Never the less I would definitely recommend it if you are in the Cypress area. The grill items look amazing. read more

We visited this restaurant many times in the past and always found its food and the service very satisfactory. Opened in 2009, its chefs and staff are doing their best in maintaining the food quality and keeping the ambiance clean. We found their vegetables fresh and spices tasty. The important aspect of their dishes is the balanced ingredients used thus making the aroma and flavor perfect. Their biryani is made with a blend of traditional Mughlai spices combined with the top quality of basmati rice. The desserts kheer and sooji halwa were of top taste. We particularly liked their sizzling platter with chicken tikka, chicken malai boti, and chicken kabob served with a fried paratha. Also, their garlic nans were fresh with a seasoned garlic rub. For non-vegetarians, it's a feast. They do have vegetable options as well but not much. It is good for groups and genteel for kids. Their other positive points are a spacious parking lot, taking reservations, and all-you-can-eat buffet lunch. They have a takeaway option as well. First off, I am pretty sure they have no idea what tempura is. Which is totally consistent with an Indian/Pakistani restaurant that think it's a good idea to serve french fries, fried chicken and some stuff they think is Chinese food. They could at least fry up some tempura? As they're reading this sentence, they are probably going to learn that Tempura is Japanese. It's not fried chicken. That's karaghe. The food they do serve is not the worst, but it's mediocre. That would probably be fine if they were in another city, but Houston has some of the best Pakistani food in the country and this is not it. Lastly, most of the workers are just fine, nice people but the management is surly and in my experience, treats customers like an inconvenience. You can see this in the utterly dismal effort in the aesthetics and furniture. It looks like the DMV and the bathroom is not a great experience. read more

We walked into this restaurant accidentally on our way to the airport. The one we had Googled was still not open and this one was nearby. Although the name sounded weird, we had no time to search for an alternative. It turned out to be an Excellent buffet at a very reasonable price. Haleem and kadai chicken were quite good and the dry chicken tikka too was above average. The Manager was extremely courteous and understood our urgency. He asked his staff to expedite the setup of the buffet. All in all it was a pleasant experience. Will revisit whenever in Houston. read more

I was craving some good chicken soup and really enjoyed their house chicken soup. Tasty and fresh. I also had the chicken w a fried long grain rice which hit the spot. I have mixed feelings writing a review about this restaurant because their food during lunch time is worthy of five stars but every single time that I have been there for their dinner buffet it has been somewhat of a nightmarish experience. Disclaimer: I have only tried their buffet and not ordered from their menu so I cannot say anything about that. The first time I came here was with a group of people from work. It was extremely fresh and tasty. And the several next times the menu was as phantasmagorical as ever changing from the regular hot and sour soup, chicken corn soup, chicken 69 to having things like Lahori fish, potato cutlet, and biryani/pulao. Dinner, however, was a completely different story. Other than their Lahori fish, everything else at the buffet tasted extremely stale. The naan was burnt. The palak paneer looked like it had been sitting there for three days. The entire restaurant reeked of death. The cutlery, silverware, and the air smelt like somebody had taken a rag filled with rotten tomatoes and raw eggs and rubbed it in every molecule of it. I have had their food for catering and have been to receptions and those were all good. I think if they can keep up the same standards for dinner as they do for lunch and their receptions/catering, I believe they have the potential to become a 4-5 star restaurant. read more

It seems most people who go here eat the buffet, but I ordered through Yelp. The confirmation said ready in 10 minutes, but when I got there I was told they didn't have any Yelp orders (even though my payment had been processed) and I had to wait about 7 minutes, defeating the purpose of ordering ahead. Apparently, their curries don't come with rice and it doesn't say that on the menu, so beware. (A side of rice is $5.) The tikka masala was so greasy it left oily yellow film on the spoon, even after being stirred before each bite. Wasn't spicy at all, even though I asked for spicy. The naan tasted store bought.
