The signed contract for a new roof which was broken without penalty by Tempel. My mother is gone and can no longer defend herself.
    Charles L.

We had wind damage before my mother passed away April 28th of 2023. It's been almost a year, so I'm not too familiar with the names. However, one of their guys showed up the day after the storm. We were glad to see him. He promised he could get the entire roof replaced for the price of the deductible. I was in disbelief, but after talking to him for a while began to believe it was true. He said the only drawback was that it could take longer to get the new roof approved by the insurance company. Finally, my ailing mother agreed to let them do the job. I had to constantly reassure her everything would be okay, as I had talked her into giving Tempel a chance to follow through with their promise. We signed a contract with them for the whole roof, and they claimed to have gone to work to get my insurance company to accept that proposal. The agreement was that, if me and my mother backed out of the deal, we would have to pay a penalty of 20% of the cost of the entire roof. I believe that was the agreement. At any rate, I think it was 20%, and my mother was terrified that their service would be so bad that we would be forced to back out of the deal and get penalized for that money. Months passed. Time rolled by, and we began to wonder if the job was ever going to get done. Meanwhile, Alex Lowen, who sold us on the plan went to work for another roofing company saying that the owner of Tempel Roofing was a greedy, unscrupulous owner. I think he went to work for Cal Roofing or some similar named company, and I think his name was Alex. At any rate, so much time passed that the wind blew off the tarp that another company had tacked on the roof before we had decided to contract Tempel. You'd think that if it was going to take nine months to get the job approved that they would at least be willing to place new tarp on the roof to protect the roof while we waited, but that's not what happened. I had to pay Alex, who said he was opening his own company, $300 out of pocket to have a new tarp put up, and he only did half the job. After a couple more months of waiting, the other half of the tarp was beginning to blow off, too. The kicker is that Ryan wouldn't give me a receipt for the second half-tarp that was put up. He wanted cash, and so I was pressured to give him cash and not ask for a receipt, I guess, so he could avoid paying taxes on the undocumented income he received. Well, nine or ten months had rolled by and, finally, I got a letter from State Farm saying they had sent inspectors out twice and they were not going to approve the job for the entire roof. Thus, they insisted all that could be done was to patch up the existing roof. Bear in mind this roof was a roof put up after a hailstorm during the Obama Administration (in 2011, I believe), and the wind had already damaged it twice. So, this was the third time the same roof needed to be repaired in a little more than ten years. Now, I'm not sure how long roofs are supposed to last, but it seems to me that my dying mother and I were taken advantage of. To make a long story short, I called Tempel Roofing and their agent, Brenda Ochoa, told me they were breaking their contract with me and my mother and that they had agreed with State Farm to merely patch up the existing roof instead of replacing the entire roof as we had all agreed upon in writing. We had a contract, and I still have that contract in a file here at home. I also have images of the contract and will post them on this website if allowed to do so. On another sad note, after they illegally broke our contract with me and my mother, one of their staff threatened to send the case to a collection agency if we didn't pay the bill on time. I know it's hard to believe for some people, but there are truly bad people in this world. Interestingly, if we'd have broken our end of the agreement, we would have paid a penalty of 20% of the cost of the entire roof to terminate early but, since it was Tempel, they simply broke the deal off without any penalty to themselves. This is why consumers need protection. In the end, they patched up the roof. State Farm only paid about $1,200 of the total cost which was over $3,000. Worst of all, my mother passed away (the absolute worst of it) while Tempel was screwing us out of the roof, and I never could get the checks cashed that State Farm sent to pay their portion of the roof. You see, the checks were made out to my mother who had passed away. Thus, I lost about $1,200 in the deal and not to mention was left with a faulty roof that will most certainly need more repairs. Whenever there's a storm outside, I wonder when more of the roof will blow away. Of course, my mother doesn't have to worry about this anymore. Millie passed away in April of last year. She worked till she was 87 to leave me something. I miss her so much. We were promised a $20,000 dollar roof for the price of the deductible (about $1,200) but ended up with $3,000 in bills and a bad roof.

I just want to thank the team at Tempel roofing for all the effort they put in to complete the job. I had a 13 year old roof with sustained wind/hail damage that I was able to file a claim through my insurance for replacement. Although the process took about 1-2 months from filing the claim to getting approved, they were involved in every step along the way and were in direct contact with my adjuster. Brenda would give me weekly status updates. Once the insurance finally approved, I picked my materials and was scheduled within a few days. It took the crew 2 days from start to finish and I am really satisfied with the results. I am glad and relieved it all worked out in the end.

Wire left hanging out of my roof. Decided to call someone else to come look at it now as I've lost all trust in this company.

Our deck is more than 40 years old and had multiple layers of coatings applied over the years, yet it continued to leak. Louis took the time to thoroughly inspect the deck, explain our options, and recommend a solution that made sense. We never felt pressured--just well informed. The crew's workmanship was outstanding. They carefully removed the existing railing, cut away old flashing and failed coatings, installed new plywood where needed, added new flashing, applied a new waterproof coating system, and then reinstalled the railing. Throughout the project they were professional, efficient, and extremely courteous. What impressed us most was their attention to detail and communication. The work was completed ahead of schedule, the job site was kept clean, and the finished deck looks beautiful. Most importantly, after our first major storm since the project was completed, we didn't have a single leak. If you're looking for a roofing or waterproofing contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, and stands behind their work, we highly recommend L&R Roofing Solutions. I check obviously for plenty of good reviews. I'm looking for professionalism, timeliness, pride in workmanship, and just overall customer satisfaction. L and R past the the reviews. Plenty of people seem satisfied. The next thing is, I check their website if they have one. Most businesses do now have some kind of online presence. Theirs was very smooth and easy to navigate. I requested a quote online, and in about 24 hours got a response. The owner, Luis, came out, climbed the roof, gave me a rundown of what to expect, should I use their services, and told me they would not contact me again or try to pressure me. They certainly followed through on that. They did send a quote. Their website makes it very easy to accept the quote and has finance options. Their contract is laid out very straightforward, full disclosure. Nothing hidden. In this online business world, where people expect more online transactional capability, you just expect businesses to offer that. But many don't, particularly in the contracting world. So, anyone who is attentive to making it easy to transact online is very focused on their business, in my experience. It's just another sign of professionalism and tells me that probably they will also be attentive during the actual construction process. That's just my general experience. It does not always hold true. But in this case, it did. After the HOA approval, I decided to use them for the roof replacement. Costs were in line with about what everyone else is charging. I paid the 50% down, and got a call from Victor the foreman to schedule replacement. They were very accommodating and got busy. There was a minor hiccup, but not their fault. The supplier delivered the wrong tiles. I'm sure that caused a bit of stress for Victor, because they have plenty of jobs scheduled. Anyway, the day after the day they were supposed to do the work, the new tiles were delivered. And then the following Monday, the tiles were loaded onto the roof. The next day they were laid and completed at the same day. I'm no roofing expert, but have some common sense. I climbed the roof before they laid the tiles just to check out their work. All the flashings were very nicely placed. Everything seemed to be high-quality. The underlayment was very nicely laid. And, each day they cleaned up pretty well. When the work was completed, they cleaned up better than I had the yard cleaned up. Victor very professional. If I need any maintenance on the roof, I definitely would consider L & R again. However, I suspect the roof will out last me and my wife.

The work completed by the crew, as you can see in the photographs, was first rate as well and admirable. I could not more explicably convey our Complete Satisfaction and Incredibly High Impression of Four Peaks Roofing, LLC! From start to end, specifically when it comes to Jorge, the Project Manager, every aspect of this project was FIRST RATE. One resounding reason I chose Four Peaks Roofing, was due to their positive reviews AND they have ZERO complaints filed with the BBB, THAT was the defining factor for me. They did quite impressive work in repairing and sealing the parapet 'cap' in addition to sealing our flat foam roof. I waited until we had the heaviest of Monsoon rains, to assure all was as High Quality, Complete, secure and waterproof as it had appeared. We had about a 40 minute 1.3" deluge of Monsoon rainfall last night, and all was as we had expected. You certainly could not find a better, reasonably cost roofing company. I would and will Highly Recommend this company for ANY roofing needs.

We specifically agreed to install the highest-quality underlayment, and I signed the work order reflecting that agreement. The crew began work on a Monday. On Tuesday evening, after they had left, I noticed the underlayment installed on my roof was not the product I had purchased. I checked the packaging, confirmed it was the wrong material, and emailed Brent. To his credit, he responded quickly, acknowledged the mistake, and said he would notify the foreman and owner. I followed up the next morning to ask how it would be corrected, but for nearly two and a half days I received no communication while the crew continued installing the wrong underlayment. There were no calls, updates, or explanation of how they intended to resolve the issue. Late Friday, I was told they were working with the manufacturer to extend the warranty on the installed underlayment to match the warranty of the premium product I had originally purchased. While I appreciated that solution, I was disappointed by the lack of communication during those critical days. After the roof was completed, I noticed several tile corners looked rough and unfinished. I sent Brent photos, and he agreed they needed additional detail work. The crew returned the following week, and to their credit, they significantly improved the appearance of the tile corners. Before the project began, I had also shown Brent water damage and rot around a vented soffit board beneath one of my roof overhangs. Although I later learned they normally do not replace vented soffit boards because they are not considered part of the roof, they agreed to replace mine as a goodwill gesture because of the underlayment mistake. Unfortunately, the first repair was poorly done. The installer used the wrong thickness of material, installed it unevenly, and relied heavily on caulk to fill gaps. The workmanship was poor enough that I removed the repair myself before the caulk had fully cured and purchased the correct materials to replace it properly. Around the same time, I discovered numerous roofing nails and staples protruding through my eaves that had not been there before the installation. Brent agreed this needed to be corrected. A crew later arrived after dark, without notifying us, and repaired the fasteners using flashlights. While I appreciated the quick response, showing up unannounced at our home at night to perform repairs demonstrated a lack of professionalism and respect for us as clients. A few weeks into the project, Jason called to discuss my experience. I explained that I chose Four Peaks because of its reputation and because both he and Brent had seemed honest and trustworthy throughout the sales process. Unfortunately, the execution of the project did not match those expectations. Jason apologized for the underlayment mistake and offered to have their carpenter reinstall the soffit board. I declined because I had already purchased the materials and planned to complete the repair myself. Two days later, however, my wife and I were awakened at approximately 6:00 a.m. by loud hammering outside our home. I found another Four Peaks employee reinstalling the soffit board without our knowledge or permission. To be fair, the second repair was significantly better, but the lack of communication was frustrating. Four Peaks ultimately upgraded the manufacturer warranty from 30 years to 50 years and matched it with an extended workmanship warranty, which I appreciated. They also charged me for the lower-priced underlayment that was actually installed instead of the premium product I had purchased. No other compensation offered. However, when the invoice arrived, it still reflected the original higher price, requiring me to contact Brent again to have it corrected. I was also told I would receive a project completion package after the work was finished. It is now July, and I still have not received it. After recent storms, I inspected my attic and discovered the rotted wood behind the soffit had never actually been removed. Instead, it had simply been pushed inward and covered by the new material. I've included photos showing the tile corners before they were repaired, the protruding nails and staples, the soffit repairs, and the remaining rot. Overall, Brent was responsive throughout much of the project, and several employees made efforts to resolve the issues. I appreciate those efforts. However, the repeated mistakes, poor communication, inconsistent workmanship, billing error, unfinished repairs, and multiple unannounced visits overshadowed the positives. I hope my experience helps future homeowners make an informed decision.
