Recently attended a softball tournament here. The fields looked pretty nice, but a lot of the girls slipped when they ran. It was a sunny day, so I'm not sure what was wrong with the field. They have plenty of benches at each field, but they're uncovered so watch out for flying softballs! We almost got hit by one from the field behind us. Definitely bringing umbrellas for protection next time. We were there for a few hours, so I had to use the bathroom a couple of times. The first time, the stall I went into ran out of toilet paper, but someone had left a bunch in there from another stall. There was only one sink, and the faucet is the kind that you press then let go and it should run for a short time. But this faucet stopped as soon as you let go. Fortunately I always carry hand sanitizer with me. Later I had to use the restroom again, and only the same stall was available. This time there was zero toilet paper. The bathroom was not like in the worst condition ever, but they should at least make sure the bathroom is stocked with toilet paper, especially when they know a tournament or other sports event is scheduled that day. read more

My grandson wanted one last day at a skatepark before flying back to Chicagoland. We chose this place. I got here early to walk the perimeter. The complex is huge and there is so much to do! I parked at the skatepark, used the public restroom, then walked past soccer fields, baseball fields, the corner dog park, pickleball amd tennis courts. The paths I used were either paved or crushed gravel. There were water fountains for humans and dogs at several locations. The perimeter was 1.5 miles. I enjoyed the dog park area with its green grass and shade. My grandson enjoyed the skatepark with its bowl. Several older people were there as well. Maintenance crew kept the place clean. There are several parking lots within the complex. read more

I visited the dog park here this morning. A good mix of dogs, not too many. The reason for 3 stars is that the city has let all the grass die and it's one big dirt park with mud mixed in. Still a nice path to walk around, plenty of bags to clean up and ample seating for the humans. The park was very clean...only saw one pile left by a previous visitor. Kudos to the pet owners for cleaning up after their pups! read more

After reading reviews from several other dog parks in the area, I realize this is the best dog park ever. It's absolutely huge, open every day, has shade, benches, and water, a 1/4 mile walking track around the perimeter, gorgeous trees and lots of friendly regulars who clean up after their dog and even other rare dog owners who forgot to bring a bag. During the evening, you can with little league games going on. We bring our pugs and husky a few times a week. It gets a little muddy after it rains. Awesome! read more

I've been here three times in the past month and so far it meets my expectations. I will update my review once I've spent more time here. This review is related to the Pickleball courts only as this is where I've spent time only. The courts are beautiful and brand spankin' new. There are 8 courts with plenty of room to watch play with bench seating on the east end. People are coming out in droves to play. Pickleball is apparently the fastest growing sport in the US. My husband and I are taking lessons through the City of Tempe and the prices can't be beat. For four lessons it's $35 now. Go to tempe.gov/brochure to get more info. That's how we got our info. The courts were full on a Saturday morning by 8 a.m. get there early and grab a court to play or you may have to wait. It appears the players have made a challenge court on the far east end where you can wait to take on the last winning team. Wow, can these people play. As a newbie, I think it's very helpful to watch and take note. This is a family friendly place to take on a new sport, meet new people, get some sunshine and get exercise. See you there! read more

Very large dog park with a walking area for dog owners. In the evening they have large floodlights which light up the entire dog park area. Everyone here seems very friendly and the dogs seem like they are ecstatic to be around all their furry friends. There are dog poop bags and scoopers all around the circumference for convenience and they also have plenty of water fountains for all the dogs. first time we went it was difficult to find since there's multiple parks here, but once we found it we and the dogs were in love! we take our dogs to this dog park about two to three times a week and it is absolutely wonderful! It has 2 sections for large and small dogs, sometimes it's open for them all to play. Theres so many seating areas and benches all the way around both dog parks, so even on the busy weekends there is enough seats even shaded ones. And they have dog water bowels that fill up plus a little fountain for you to fill up your own water bowl. we used to only go to Shawnee dog park but this is now they're favorite ! read more

Bathrooms have soap, always a bonus, and air dryers. Trees liking all fields for the parents who forgot their shade canopy. Only downside is parking. Appears to be a reoccurring theme based on the comments that aggressive dogs tend to occupy this park. I will be taking my dog elsewhere (who is friendly) in order to keep him safe since my husky seems to be a target of unsocial dogs. Please keep your dogs out of the dog park if it's a reoccurring theme hurting other dogs. Regardless of what you feel about your dogs character, if they aren't great around other dogs whether you wanna believe it or not, keep them home. They are a safety risk to people just like you but with social dogs. Dont ruin a good time because your dog can't act right, please. Safety first. read more

This is for the Dog Park. We have not brought our dogs here in a while as grass was barren and dog turds were abound. Not this time. Looks like it has been recently seeded and allowed to get established so I'm guessing it was closed for a while. So this park has plenty of running room for the dogs, a nice aggregate walking path for owners, water source for dogs and generally many other dogs to chum up with yours. There are several permanent benches for seating and a covered shade structure. Plenty of trash cans to pick up after your dog with poo bags available or scooping tools. I just wish more people picked up after their dog or assume they did and pick up a pile you see to make up for missing your own dogs. As the poo situation was way better than past visits, I still walked continuously for 10 minutes scooping pile after pile. Bathroom facilities are located within a couple hundred feet from dog park in between the sports fields. Parking is convenient and if you have kids playing a sport at sports fields, bring your pooch along and let them enjoy the dog park. The entire facility is nice and usually great fellow dog lovers and owners. read more

Lucy and I loved this park. Last night a dog started growling with her which would have lead to a fight. I looked at the dog and asked the owner if it had a special collar "a shock collar for moments like this" why the hell is that dog even here??? We moved to the back half, then what looked like it could have been a puppy, started to growl at her too and since that dog was small I was able to get close and pull my dog away. Not a good experience tonight. I don't think I'll be coming back, other people have brought dogs that are not friendly, and thy know it. New dog park for us read more

This is a fabulous dog park. We've taken Buck, an English Bulldog, to this park numerous times. It's huge with lots of room to run and play with other dogs. We normally try to stay away from the weekend crowds and try going in the morning. Most dogs play well together. There is a paved area around the park and bags for pick up. Owners are pretty good and keep their eyes on the pets. We've not had a problem but realize it's not the park and only the owners that create any issues. We love this place and so does Buck! read more

Best and biggest dog park in the area! Easily over 100+ yards long. Plenty of benches and trees for shade and even a covered area with 4 picnic tables. I could see how it could get a little dusty here when it's hot but for the most part it's not. There is no smaller area for little dogs so if your small pup doesn't like to mingle with dogs of all sizes then might not be an ideal place for them. There are also plenty of garbage cans and bags! Almost every dog owner I met here is so friendly and are good at cleaning up after their dogs. There are also water fountains for humans and dogs! I'd suggest bringing some water for yourself on warm days. It even has lighting and is open until 10pm so your dog can play even when it's dark! read more

I take my dog to this dog park quite often and the park is large enough so the dogs aren't crowded together, people can throw balls, dogs can run at full speed and there are plenty of poop cans, poop bags, pooper scoopers and places to sit for the humans who hang out while their dogs play. One of the reviews mentioned that there were quite a few dogs who liked to hump other dogs. Unfortunately my dog will occasionally pick out a dog who he feels he needs to show who is boss, but this is fairly rare. Dogs will do this, not sure if it is a dog park thing, just a dog thing. It's up to the responsible dog parent to curb this behavior. I do. People are usually very good about cleaning up their pups poop, but there are plenty of us who are willing to grab a pooper scooper, wander the grass and rocks to keep the place clean. If you are there sitting while your dog is playing, get off your butt, get some exercise and help keep the place clean. Also, some dog parents will walk the path around the park and expect their dog(s) to stick with them. This is a dog park, let your pooch run FREE and let them play and be a dog. Let them have one place where you aren't screaming their name and telling them what to do. Just my opinion. :-) There is one chocolate lab who loves to come over and act like he wants you to pet him, then he'll raise his leg and attempt to pee on you. I have actually seen him jump up onto a person and pee on them. WTF? I've never seen the pet parent ever try and stop this behavior, but he/she should. If this is your chocolate Lab, please try and get him to stop doing this to people. Gross. read more

It's an absolute bane to the night sky. The lights shouldn't be on 24/7, nobody needs that level of illumination at 1am and it is visible all the way from usury park and gold canyon, the light makes stargazing impossible. read more

This park offers so much to do whether you play softball, soccer or basketball or simply enjoy walking and socializing. Their dog parks are very well maintained and fenced off nicely to allow us to isolate timid or hyper dogs from the majority if needed. Their double gated entrances are very helpful in giving us leash area. Everyone here seems to do a great job picking up after their dogs too! I take my dogs regularly to this park. Today however, my dog was attacked and the owner(s) did nothing about it, nor were they anywhere to be seen while the fight was going on and when I separated the two dogs. I left shortly afterwards and I still don't know who owned this dog because the owners hadn't checked up on it. It was pretty frightening seeing this strange dog growling menacingly at my tiny girl dog, pinning her to the ground by her neck and biting her. I guess I'm taking my dogs to Shawnee Bark Park and using the small dog enclosure from now on. read more

We have taken our dog, Sophie, a few times now to the dog park at the Tempe Sports Complex. It is absolutely fabulous once you find it! The Complex is huge, so the first time we went, we parked on the opposite side where the dog park is located since we didn't know better. My only problem is that there are no signs directing you at the Complex where everything is. Since then we have figured out exactly where the dog park is and the best place to park (hint: turn onto Carver Rd and you can park in the lot right in front of the dog park. The Tempe Police substation is on the corner). The dog park itself is absolutely huge-much, much bigger than the one we used to go to in Ohio. The times we have been to the park, there have been about 15-20 dogs which is a good amount. There are benches for the owners to sit on, as well as some picnic tables. Additionally, there are bags for dog poop and faucets for water, so if you forget bottled water it's no problem. All of the dogs and owners we have met at the park are very friendly and nice. We have not yet encountered an aggressive dog, and all of the owners watch their dogs very well. Sophie has so much fun running around and playing and is always worn out by the time we get in the car to come home. She even found the last remaining puddle from the rain last week and managed to get muddy :) read more

Enormous! Compared to the Chapparal Dog Park, this one is like a whole canine planation with dogs running around for acres on end. Ok maybe not that big, but really large with lots to sniff. Which is really what you care about when you have an ADD bloodhound with a hyperactive nose. The people there are usually really cool and you might even feel like a parent at a kid park socializing with the other mommies while they prance around and chase or hump each other. It's nice to have a human to chat with while your pup runs around. There are a couple of strange peeps (more than avid dog lovers) here along you may run into the self-appointed dog-park police who will not hesitate to tell you to pick up your dog's crap or let you know that your dog is not playing nice, but pay no attention. There is no actual dog park po-po. On the whole, this a great place to let 'em loose for a while and wear them out. read more

This is only the second dog park I've ever taken my dog to (the other was Cosmo Dog Park in Gilbert) and I liked it much better. I took the risk of going at noon on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. There were about 20 dogs in the park, but because the area is so big, it didn't seem too crowded. The dog has very little "dog mess" around, which shows me that people take pride in the park and generally clean up after their dogs. My only complaint is that I saw so many owners with food, which has a tendancy to cause issues with some dogs. Owners were giving dog treats to dogs (a big no no) and there were a couple young kids walking around with ice cream bars with dogs following them (just asking for a dog to knock over your kid to get the yummy treat). All in all, I'm a big fan. I guess you'll see stupid people at every dog park, right? read more

This is my favorite dog park in Phoenix. Namely 1. It is kept up rather well both by the city and by the locals who take care of it. 2. People will ostracize your dog if it is aggressive. Sorry for people who have dogs with issues, but you will not have to worry about a dog staying in the park if it attacks. ESPECIALLY with a police station next door. 3. Pit bulls are NOT looked at funny here. We judge the dog (and the owner), not the breed. 4. It is spacious and provides a comfortable amount of room for lots of dogs. 5. The Great Dane rescue I work with has had a couple of meetups here, so if 10+ Danes can run freely here, comfortably, you know it's good. ONLY BAD THINGS 1. Location for me, I'm in Laveen, this park is not. But I don't trust people at a lot of parks so I make the trek when I can. 2. IF IT IS A RAINY DAY!!!!! There is a significant ditch in the park that collects water whenever it rains. Not an issue for my prissy Danes, however, if you have a water dog, skip the day. Or bring jugs of water to rinse, and plenty of towels. : ) read more

I drive down here solely for the dog park. I have a puppy that has a lot of energy and this park is pretty big, giving her lots of room to run around and, of course, get tired. I don't like to go too late in the day because there are just too many dogs and she gets distracted, but my late morning trips have always been a pleasure. My one dislike about the park is that part of it appears to be a retention basin. Water collects and stagnates in a particular area and they use PVC and plastic fencing to block it off. It doesn't do anything to keep the dogs out. They need to re-engineer where the water runs off or determine a better way to secure that disgusting pool of water. The park does not have a section for timid or small dogs and one for large dogs. I've seen people bring toy sized dogs, 2-3lbs, and I was a little concerned the dogs would get trampled/ attacked. I caught my little 20lb Basenji mix stalking one of these tiny dogs, so I had to shift her attention. If you want to bring a tiny dog to this park simply for socialization, I'd recommend being the dog during a time there would only be a hand full of dog owners around, so you can better monitor your dog. Otherwise keep your really tiny dogs are home. read more

Probably the nicest dog park in Tempe, considering how low the bar has been set by other dog parks, it does not take alot of effort to be the best. The park is more than large enough for any dog to get plenty of exercise . From my experience, all the the other owners and their dogs have been very friendly and I have felt very comfortable taking my dogs there. Folks, I do have one concern, when your dog poops, pick it up please! I have witnessed several owners watch their dog do business then walk right past it, how effin rude! The park has bags use them. That being said, someone from the city does a decent job picking it up for narcissistic owners as I don't see alot of poo laying around. Thank goodness for Melissa H.'s review or else I would have never found this park. I recently started volunteering with a rescue and am constantly looking for places to take dogs on the weekend. I woke up early enough to get my four legged friend and before it got too hot, decided to take him to the dog park. Once I found the park, Ringo was ready to go and took a few laps of the run. It was clean (didn't notice any stray messes) in addition to the water fountains, a few people had dog bowls and coolers out filled with water, and everyone was kind to me and my pup. Everyone seemed very attentive to their dogs but also very relaxed and it was definitely what I expected in my first visit to a dog park. read more

Well I swore up and down that we'd never take a dog to a dog park (most trainers don't recommend it actually) but we broke and took our rambunctious new pup to the dog park at the Tempe Sports Complex. It is a gorgeous park with lots of shade trees and a path that goes around the perimeter of the enclosed area. He loved it and we loved the fact that nobody yelled at us about bringing our daughter (she sat as quietly as a 2 yr old can on one of the many benches munching ice cubes and laughing at the puppies) or about having a pit bull. Plus it's super clean because everyone cleans up after their pets. They also have a nice water fountain with a dish at floor level so you can give the pups a drink too. The only reason I cannot give it 5 stars is because I wish it had separate spaces for large and small dogs. A rather large (I've handled many a pit bull and mastiff in my life but none made me nervous like this dog) tan shepherd mix kept coming after my puppy and the owners were slow to respond. Finally after the second time she rolled my pup to the ground and make him dive between the closest set of human legs he could find we decided to call it quits. We probably won't go back in if that dog is there. Otherwise all the other dogs were nice and when they weren't their owners were quick to correct them. read more
