Overall, this is a nice park that is well maintained. There's also a dog park. (See dog park listing for that review.) The baseball field is nice. In evenings during spring there are kids playing a game or practicing, which is fun to watch. The large soccer area is great for running and play. It is usually fairly peaceful and quiet, especially in the morning. The playground area is shaded and enjoyable for kids of many ages and for birthday parties! We frequent this dog park occasionally; it's a bit further away from some of the more local ones by us. They have a smaller, enclosed area in the center of the big park for little ones and shy dogs and you can walk around the entire perimeter of the park. Some dogs are a bit more aggressive at this park and people aren't as inclined to follow and pick up after their dogs do their business. I searched for "Small Dog Park" and this one came up, so I decided to check it out. The park itself is really nice, with a large enclosed area where dogs can run around freely. There's also a smaller enclosed section inside, which might be intended for small dogs. However, since you have to walk through the larger area to reach it, it doesn't quite work as a separate small dog space. I had called the Chandler Parks and Rec last fall to let them know of lights being out in the dog park. I was told they needed to get an engineer /contractor out there to check it out. Their solution; they cut the light pile down that wasn't working. Now it's getting dark early again and it is not safe for anyone to walk around. There are mud holes throughout and especially to every entrance of the center gated area for the smaller pups. Wishing the city would get more lighting and cut down on the watering. PS I had also mentioned the playground area for the kids and that light was never fixed either and is black in that area. The only lighting in that area comes from the ball park area if someone is playing/practicing. Come on Chandler Parks and Rec... that park has already been in the news once last year for a male exposing himself to minors. Get more lighting to help prevent anything bad happening read more

A quiet, clean, and excellent dog park nestled within a small suburb in Chandler, Arizona. The Shawnee Bark Park exemplifies all of the key characteristics that a good dog park should have. It's fantastic! Everybody I've encountered here is very friendly and follow by the simple rules of the park. People in Chandler are very easy-going, I've noticed. The park is a good size; rectangular parallelogram shape. It's nice to walk your dog in circles around the dog park to tire them out before taking the good old pup back home. In the center is an interesting skills area which I found to be very rewarding and well-maintained. There are plastic bag dispensers located throughout the park, as well as pick up tools for cleaning. The entrance is double gated and provides a nice distance between the entrance and actual park, for any incoming dogs. The seating is ankle and strategically placed benches under the shade makes for an excellent spot to spend time and unwind! Date: 5-23-18 Time: 12:35pm Temperature: 85 degrees. Nice!! My only point of concern was the parking, as another fellow yelper had pointed out. There's a parking lot, which is about three to five minute walk, but it's also located near by school. So technically speaking to the Bark Park, did you walk down the street which is about 300 feet... noted for those who aren't ambulatory! read more

Great place to take your dogs. Has a fenced area for smaller dogs and large grasses areas to play fetch with your pup! Park is very clean, people are friendly. Normally there are water fountains, but right now they are shut off. Park is closed on Tuesdays, which is a bummer, but to be expected. This place is great. We usually go in the morning, and the regulars there are kind and friendly. 99% of the time, the larger dogs are gentle with the little puppers, and whether it's dog or owner, everybody gets along. There have been a few exceptions (some individuals deciding to not intervene or take responsibility for their dogs, ignoring their pets, or their dogs just outright attacking others), but very few compared to other dog parks I've been to. On the weekends it gets pretty busy, and my complaint is about the number of adults who ignore the signs posted about no young children being allowed in the park. These adults will not only let their children run around willy nilly (I've seen some even kicking around a football), but also not take responsibility when they're called out. Dogs act differently than people. If some kid is trying to grab their face, approaching them without reading their body language, running around, screaming, crying, etc., even with well behaved dogs there is no telling what will happen. Even if you say, "it's fine, the kids will learn" it doesn't change the fact that you are willfully putting your kids, as well as other people's pets in potential danger. If your child does something stupid, and a dog protects themselves by biting them, that's still a dog that will likely be put down. Thankfully, most people there don't take that risk. Often times the owners will just take their pets and leave. If not, I've also seen them remove themselves by moving to the fenced area (the ability course) in the center of the park. It's unfair that that needs to happen though. If you have a pupper that is early on in their socialization, I'd recommend avoiding the weekends. read more

This has more to do with the dog owners than the park itself, but it's worth noting in case you are thinking of bringing your dog here! I noticed the first few times I came that it was usually muddy and/or had dog poop everywhere that had not been picked up. Smelled terrible. Now the last two times we've been here, we've had a problem with aggressive dogs. One guy let his dog chase and bark at mine nonstop even when we moved away from them (mine ignored, just trying to play fetch. Then mine started growling so we left.) I didn't go back for a while until today in the middle of the day because it wasn't busy... thought we'd be safe! Nope. A pit mix attacked my dog (who again was just playing fetch, not interacting with him) and latched on. Thankfully he mostly got the collar and scraped her ear, no punctures or worse wounds. It lasted for about 30 seconds and took three people to get them apart. Between the cleanliness and aggression, we won't be going back again! read more

I've been attending this park for over 3 years and more recently people are bringing more and more aggressive dogs. My docile and trained dog has been attacked multiple times there by the same none other then pitbull's. I have seen pit bulls attacking other dogs. People make excuses for their dog and do not understand dogs in general nor do they know their breed. I refuse to take my dog to a park that started out peaceful and has become an attack park. If you see people with pit bulls that they adopted just remember that they do not know their dogs and that they do not care about your dog and they will make excuses. While there was dogs teeth in my dogs back by a pitbull, a guy started fighting with me about how innocent they were. If this is it crazy and psychotic that I don't know what is. read more

This park is super close to my apartment & huge so it's great for the most part. Only complaint is almost every time we come here, there is a fight.. human or dog. Dogs are animals, obviously, so i understand they can bark too much at each other or enter another's personal space and go at it. But seeing the "adults" go at it is the pathetic part. If your dog is trying to fight another dog or play too aggressively, just leash your dog and bring them back another day. But there isn't a reason the people need to fight over it. read more

I have a smaller dog that I go the this park with. It really stinks that you have to walk through the bigger dog section to get to the smaller section, but the smaller dog/ agility section of the park is nice with a picnic table shaded by a large tree. I have a few major complaints though. -People do not pick up their dogs poop. I know alot of people think that this is an issue in all dog parks but it isnt. Watch your damn dog! you should be watching your dog anyway to make sure he/she isnt causing trouble or getting into trouble. And if i let you know that your dog did poop, dont get all pissed at me for bringing it to your attention! Im just trying to do my part to keep the park clean. -People dont realize that when they bring food into the park that it is going to attract the other dog at the park toward you.... So when you bring a bag of chips in and all the dogs are at your feet or jumping on you, dont act surprised or mad. yes we should be training our dogs to be better behaved, but lets face it... most dogs will do anything to get a snack. Also the food that you bring in could cause aggression among the dogs. you dont know what dogs are food possessive or not. -Owners should know their dogs behaviors, and what types of behaviors other dogs do to trigger their dog to act aggressively. Yes I know my dog is my baby, but I also know he doesnt do well around hyper puppies and I own up to that. No bodies dog is perfect. I do my best to let owners of puppies know this and I watch my dog VERY carefully when a puppy is near him. I praise him for any calm behavior around a puppy, but I also know how he acts right before he is pushed over his limit, and I stop him before it gets to a bad situation. -Lastly, its a dog park. NOT A PLAYGROUND. There is a sign saying no kids under 12 are allowed. i think thats a little excessive, but I do think that if a bunch of kids are playing tag, and a dog wants to run and chase them, and the kid gets scared (or worse, bit), that its their own damn fault for running around, and its their parents fault for not following the rules. All in all its a good dog park. It would be better if everyone did their part and followed the rules a little more closely. read more

This is actually a really nice park. I didn't like how to get to the "smaller" area you have to go through the whole dog park, but eh. Like most dog parks, there are owner cliques. I loved that there was plenty of seating, shade, and different terrain (kinda) for my dogs to run around through. They really had a blast playing with new friends and running all over this huge park. It's shaped like a donut (with the agility area being the center), so they were running laps like crazy. And they napped for HOURS when we got home. Would def come back. (Ah yes. This dog park I like. It doesn't compare to Paseo Vista but it's up there. This park has a lot of trees providing much needed shade especially during the summer months. The dogs that come here are all pretty friendly and play nice. Pet owners are responsible, friendly, and pick up after their dogs so it's a clean park. In the center there is a obstacle course play area for all dogs. There is not a separation for small dogs but like I said owners here are all responsible and watch their dog. The lil ones seem to play just fine w the big dogs. A nice park to take your dog! There's a sectioned off agility area inside the fenced off dog park which also doubles as a small-dog/shy dog area if your dog needs a more structured environment. There are various stations that hold plastic shopping bags for you to pick up after your dog (Unlike the Tempe parks where bags are supplied by the park, the park here has a "donate one, take one" policy of bringing/dropping off bags). The park itself has more of an organic layout vs. the more structured design of Tempe Sports Complex, with lots of shade trees and various benches to sit on. In the main area, there's a water fountain with some bowls and a tub of water that I saw various larger dogs hopping into to take a soak (Very cute!) My dog had fun roaming around, and got to show off how speedy he was by racing around with a 4 month old lab mix! read more

Wow!!!!! I have never in my life seen such an awesome bark park before!!!!! My dog Luna had a blast . It is tucked away in the middle of a subdivision so traffic is really low. I went at about 1pm on a Sunday and it was only me and one other person there with our dogs which was nice. There are bags and scoopers all over the place. It also looked like pet owners did a great job of picking up after their pets which is a nice change from the bark park at my apartment complex. In addition there are agility toys for the dogs and benches and shaded areas for owners and pets alike to enjoy. On the same little compound area there are playgrounds for kids and open fields to play sports on. All in all a great place to enjoy time with all the members of your family. Oh and the playgrounds are covered from the sun, which is a must in Arizona. I like this park so much that I am going to send pictures of it to the mayor of my town back in Clarksville. read more

Nice trees, hilly and plenty of room to run, roam, poop. My favorite in the area, better than Cosmo (after you've seen enough dogs sh** in the water), Snedigar (too small!) and West Chandler on Kyrene (it's a doggy ghost town whenever I go). Lots of pooper scoopers, and there's a center area with agility equipment that's gated. People with small dogs tend to like this area. And who knew dog parks were so cliquish? I love this park- I recently went and brought my lovely greyhound (Hermione) with me. We had a GREYT time - lol the park is awesome they have nice shade trees and a place with water for the dogs, plus some well-placed benches. There is an area in the middle which is also fenced in for the smaller dogs. The pet owners I've met there are always polite and friendly. I've heard it is VERY popular EARLY in the morning- so haven't been when it is crowded. It is by far the nicest dog park I've seen- but then still haven't been to all of 'em yet.. read more

This park is a hidden gem! We love the amount of shade it offers. They have beaches scattered around the park and cement walls to sit and there is a lot of grass areas for dogs to run. They have an agility area fenced. It's basically a square area (agility course) inside a rectangle area (the entire park itself) All the dogs we have encounters are friendly and the owners always keep an eye on them which is awesome! Especially if you have small dogs you don't have to worry. It's also a great place to socialize you pet and let them release all that energy they have. Wonderful park! I went there yesterday for the first time with my two of my 7 pound dogs. My chihuahua wasn't really enjoying it but my dachshund had a BLAST so I brought him again this morning for two hours. Everyone there is nice and for the most part watch and control their dogs, and almost all of the dogs are very polite and play nicely. Just a reminder that the area in the middle is not really intended as a 'small dog area' so don't bring your small dog in there and get upset when a bigger dog is let in! My 7 pound guy played with the big dogs just fine, from some beautiful pit bulls to two Great Danes. As long as the dogs are respectful of their dog friends then the little dogs and big dogs are great together! The park is very clean, you can't expect EVERY poop to get picked up but for the most part it was clean! And the park is HUGE! Much bigger than the one I used to go to in Glendale! read more

Overall I think this is a great place with a few thoughts: Watch your dog closely, some dogs have been aggressive but it's very rare. The park is beautiful and looks nice with lots to do and see, however, the big issue is owners who don't watch their dogs. A little friendly play is great and it's ok to wrestle but when your dog is deep growling and grabbing mine by the throat and you are nowhere to be found, that's not ok. Definitely one of our least faborite dog parks. We are very biased since we visited during a very wet and muddy time. There were a ton of dogs, but enough space for everyone. My only complaint is due to a dog that showed its teeth and barked at me for nearly 2 minutes straight. Some men tried helping me out by shooing the dog a bit.
