This is the largest and best dog park in Scottsdale with sections for Active and Passive dogs, restooms. and free parking. It is located adjacent to the ball park and a 2-mile trail around the lake. The dog park and entire park grounds are well-managed, and the bathrooms are clean! I go here every day with my dog, and he loves it!

Our new pups loved it their first dog park

My two mini Schnauzers loved it here, it was their first dog park experience and it was fun. A big park that is separated in two areas, one with high energy dogs one one with low energy or smaller dogs. Near the Hilton in Scottsdale makes it the perfect location since Hilton is pet friendly.

Our pups loved this off leash dog park. Great place, friendly people!

Visited Scottsdale over Thanksgiving week with two frenchies. Found the Chaparral Off Leash park closest to our hotel. Took our pups to the passive area. Everyone was very friendly and immediately felt at ease. Our two pups were so incredibly happy making new friends and ran and ran and ran to their hearts content. They pooped so much as well that I ran out of plastic bag. But there were plenty of bags accessible and I was so relieved. We returned 1-2x each day over 5 days. We also walked around the park perimeter on leash and we all enjoyed the grounds. We definitely highly recommend this dog park and will plan to return here with our dogs on future visits to Scottsdale!

Great dog park! There's two different areas one for passive dogs and the other I think was for large dogs can't remember.....but my dog had fun! We visited both areas, many friendly people , grounds were clean. I have no complaints. I wish there were more parks like this around Scottsdale!

I've been going to the Chaparral Dog Park in Scottsdale for almost 20 years. It is by far and without a doubt the best dog park in the Phoenix metro area. It's clean, well lighted and has three large grassy areas for the dogs to play (although one grassy area is kept closed to let the grass grow). I go there to let my dogs run around and play while I enjoy talking to other dog owners and just relaxing. As a matter of fact over the years I've met some of my best friends there. I've found that the other dog parents are generally polite, friendly and helpful. However, I've occasionally encountered rude people. Generally, the best policy is to just ignore them and walk away. But this past Saturday night (06/25/2022) I experienced something completely outrageous in all my 20 years patronizing this park. My five months old, 21lb. puppy got into a tussle with another puppy as dogs often sometimes do when playing. As soon as I saw it I ran over and grabbed my dog. The owner of the other dog became completely unhinged. He began swearing at me and calling me obscene names. I didn't respond back in kind. I just walked away with my dog to the other side of the park and sat on one of the benches. But this unhappy dog owner wouldn't let the matter drop. He walked over to me and ordered me to leave the park immediately. Really? He's the park ranger all of a sudden? And then it got worse. He began screaming obscene and vulgar homophobic slurs at me. I'm not gay, but what if another person was? No one should be subjected to this kind of verbal abuse, harassment and threats. This man's behavior was completely outside the bounds of all civility and no one should be subject to this type of abuse. People go to this park to have fun and relax with their four legged friends. Over the years I've seen many dog fights. It happens at dog parks. But responsible dog parents handle these situations in responsible and mature ways without resorting to name calling and threats. As a matter of fact in 2011 I was bitten by a dog at this park. The dog's owner ran up to me and asked me if I was okay and whether I needed a ride to the hospital (I was bleeding). I thanked her for the offer, but declined and drove myself to the hospital instead. Before I left the park that night we exchanged emails and she politely told me that she would email me a copy of her dog's proof of rabies vaccination. Ironically in the picture attached, this rude individual is standing in front of the list of rules and regulations for the dog park. Among other things, this list includes no verbal abuse, no threats or threatening behaviors, and no harassment. This extremely angry and vulgar man should take the time to review the Chaparral dog park list of rules. If you see this person at the park I would recommend staying as far away from him as possible. Behavior like his should never be tolerated.

Nice area for smaller and quieter dogs. The dog owners are a nice bunch too. I usually go at dusk.

Ask the Community - Chaparral Off Leash Area

I tried to go on Tuesday and there was a sign outside that said "Closed Tuesdays and Fridays for maintenance". Is this the case every week?

That is correct - the dog park is closed every Tuesday and Friday from 8am-12pm for maintenance.

When is the best time to go when there are lots of other dogs?

Weekend early mornings

This was an option for parking during the Arizona Dragon Boat Festival. It's about a ten minute or…read moreso walk from the parking lot, through the grassy area, passing the river, under the bridge, and finally through to the gate of Tempe Town Lake. During this eventful weekend, arriving early around 6am is ideal for grabbing the coveted spots under the trees. By 8am, the lot is likely full since the first heats have started. Street parking is also more than likely out of the question by then. During some downtime, I got the chance to explore the park and noticed lots of birds on the trees yapping away. Cranes over near the pond picking at morsels as far as I can tell. Canadian geese marching by and chilling near the gazebo. Medium sized fishes, possibly tilapia, congregating upstream in the river. Dog owners hanging and chatting while their pets pat each other down. Joggers passing by being careful not to step on the occasional brownie. Simply put, this is the abundance of the local park experience.

I am an out-of-town visitor and overall, the park is fair. There are actually two fenced areas…read more Both have plenty of seating and there are some trees, looks like the park departments lay hay or something similar down to help absorb smells and probably keep the dust from lifting. They also provide doggy Doodoo pick up bags. And water fountains for the dogs which have plumbed water so you can get fresh water for your pet. What's kind of discouraging is that people bring their dogs and leave the crap literally laying on the ground. I figure people who arrive when there's no one around just don't care. But it's frustrating. It's a dog park. We all share. We should all take care. Papago Park is actually very pretty and it's close to the trail so if you wanna go for a walk on the trails with your dog, it's in very close proximity. If you're here with your family, there's lots of areas to play for the kids as well. And this area of Tempe is very nice. So it's my second time coming and I'll probably come again since I'm here for two weeks. The people I encountered were very friendly and also very willing to do slow intros for our shy dog. So we didn't have any issues at all with aggressive dogs or pet owners who just seemed nonchalant about a small dog mix in with bigger dogs. So I could definitely appreciate that. Just warning to people who bring their dogs: pick up after your pet. No one else wants to pick up your dogs poop!!

On the south side of Old Town Scottsdale is a residential area or hospital depending on what side of Scottsdale Road you are on. I used to live in a condo on the south side of Old Town, and I enjoyed walking to Old Town Scottsdale. Some of my favorite places to visit continue to be the Poisoned Pen (book store of mysteries and other books), the Sugar Bowl (ice cream and other treats), and the Scottsdale Civic Center Library and Scottsdale Center for the Arts just outside (great festival and special event location). There are some great events on the horizon from Spring Training games and movie nights, farmers markets, public art displays and galleries, and the Parada del Sol parade and rodeo. There is also some great history all around from statues of Winfield Scott (namesake of Scottsdale), the Little Red Schoolhouse, and more! It is also helpful to understand that there are many districts making up Old Town Scottsdale: Arts District (south of Indian School and west of Scottsdale Road), Brown & Stetson District (between Scottsdale and Drinkwater, north of Indian School), Civic Center Park (just east of Historic Old Town), Entertainment District (Camelback to 6th Avenue, east of Scottsdale Road), 5th Avenue Shopping District (much of the area north of Indian School and west of Scottsdale Road), Scottsdale Fashion Square (area between 68th Street and Scottsdale Road mostly around Camelback), and the Waterfront & Southbridge District (area just south of Scottsdale Fashion Square between Goldwater and Scottsdale Road).
