Decided to bring our little pup here after realizing it was the closest dog park to us right now. The mixed and outdated reviews were thankfully not enough to deter us! It's a nice big fenced off area with two sections - one for small and one for large dogs. We appreciate this since our terrier mix pup is only 20lb and a bit weary of other dogs - especially big ones! We stopped by Saturday around noon and there were more dogs in the large section than small. As the time went on, more dogs came and everyone was friendly and playing. Although the grass is not luscious green, it was still a nice place to have your dog run around and play with other dogs. We will certainly be back! The reason for 4 and not 5 stars was the grass, and the fencing. A bit outdated and could use some TLC. read more

Spent 45 mins picking these out of my dogs feet, they were imbedded between her toes and I imagine didn't feel great getting pulled out. I was happy to find a park with a lot of grass but not at this cost, I also didn't realize until I picked her up after that they were all over her. Won't be coming back unfortunately but sharing to make others aware. Might not be as much of an issue in shorter hair dogs. read more

Never coming back to this park again. Sucks because I used to come with no problems and will have to drive farther out for a new dog park. A man and a woman ruined it for everyone and I'm guessing these are the same people everyone's complaining about when it comes to aggressive dogs. They brought in a pack of dogs and one on a leash handled by the woman that was extremely aggressive. My dogs are such sweethearts and wouldn't pick a fight with any dog. I had my corgi with me in the large dog area and keep an eye on him and my other dog who is a pit mix. I go to the big dog side because of my pit mix. She's a rescue so I rather have her choose a fight with a big dog than a small one if she ever showed any sign of aggression but she has never in the year I've owned her. Their German Shepard bit my corgi in the neck and rolled him over and was super aggressive with the rest of the dogs as they came in. I ran over immediately and they didn't bother to try to get their dog off my corgi. I had to get in between them. They had 3 Germans and 2 chihuahuas. The owners seemed to try to pick fights with everyone else there saying, "that sounds like a you problem" when I told him he should never brings dogs like that in a pack and aggressive as they were. The amount of disrespect these people have. They also chose to call people names when everyone else in the park was wondering why they would bring dogs in like that. Obviously people aren't going to like disobedient dogs and owners that don't care. They ruined it for everyone so everyone decided to leave. You guys don't deserve dogs. My eight month old puppy had a great time here while we were in town on vacation. The park was easy to find and there seemed to be plenty of parking in the afternoon. The park itself is very simple, with separate, equally sized sides for smaller and bigger dogs. Each have double gated entrances and water is available. There are chairs and benches available within the areas as well. Understandably, it is very dry and dusty, and you should be prepared to brush quite a few burs out of your dog when you get home. All four of my puppy's paws were packed with burs I needed to comb out, but he was tired and happy so it was worth it. Like other reviews had mentioned, I did see one woman who had brought her obviously bigger than 20 pound dog to the small dog side to play frisbee with, but at least they mostly kept to themselves and her dog did not seem interested in playing with the smaller dogs. And of course there was one guy who let his little pushy intact male dog be a nuisance while he stared at his phone but I don't even think he stayed for more than ten minutes. That said, the people were very welcoming and their dogs seemed generally well socialized so everyone could have a good time. read more

It was not overly crowded, in fact, we were the only ones in the small dog area for a good while. Parking wasn't too bad either. We will be back, but I just wish people would do a better job of picking up after their dogs. This dog park looks nice but owners are not responsible and do not look after their dogs. This is one of the main reasons we stopped coming here and will make the longer drive to Paradise Valley Dog Park. There isn't much shade as well. People do not leash their dogs in the parking lot and when they're aggressive the owners dismiss this as "dogs just being dogs" and continue to allow bad behavior. There is a small dog and large dog side. We have two small dogs and I have no issue with owners bringing large dogs in a small dog area (some people do) but only if they are not aggressive and well behaved meaning my small dog is NOT your big dogs toy. People sometimes dump dogs here as well and no one present seems to care. One time there was a female pit bull and a mastiff puppy (who was crying the entire time) dumped because whoever was dog sitting them didn't want to anymore. We spent all day trying to find a rescue to take both. Eventually we found one and they were able to somehow locate the owners. Please also pick up after your dog. People are too busy socializing or staring at their phone to notice if their dog makes a mess. Speaking of, this place is a hot mess. If you are a responsible dog owner, do yourself a favor and go to Paradise Valley Dog Park instead. read more

I love this little spot. It's right near my house and it has ample parking. I like that they separate the large dogs in the small dogs, but really it's more policed around passive versus active. In other words, if you had a big older or submissive dog and didn't want it with the other big dogs, you would be welcome with the little dogs as long as it wasn't aggressive. I appreciate that. At 5pm I took my 8lb Yorkie to the small dog side. There were large dogs in there and one growled at me as I walked by.... twice. My furgirl was scared of several large dogs and she was following me around instead of enjoying herself. When we got home I found out why she hated it there... there are stickers/weeds in the "grass". They were deeply packed between her toes and all around in the fur on the bottom of her feet. They blended in with the color of her fur so I had no idea this happening to her. I feel awful taking her to that park and I won't do it again. This is by far the worst upkeep I have experienced at any of the dog parks in the area. It took me over 90 minutes to work them out of her fur. It's nice to know this isn't far away if I want to go, that being said I found the same issues that everyone else seems to mention. Clearly marked are areas for Small dogs and Large dogs. Unless there is an invisible fence that I don't know about, it was clear to me that ALL dogs seemed to be in the small dog park. I am not sure why this concept is so hard to understand, and I don't see how anyone CANT SEE the sign. It is clearly marked. My little Chi was a bit nervous as other dog owners let their large dogs run around and "visit" with my little one who remained on my lap. Fun dog park - usually the people are very friendly and nice. The dogs are usually good, but as stated by others, some do bring their big dogs into the smaller dog area, which could lead to an accident. I am used to going to Chaparral dog park, in which I still do, but distance wise from my home, this one is now more convenient. I've seen no fights with dogs, but definitely a wild altercation with a woman against 8-10 dog owners because she couldn't control her dog humping every dog in the area. She told everyone that it was normal and whoever disagreed, gave them the F-U and you're a fat ba$+ard, plus some! I have a 20 min video if anyone would like to see this. I frequent this park a lot. Overall it's a dog park!?! Nothing too exciting.. will say that it's a good size and I fairly maintained. Two separate areas (large/small) but the people that usually come don't listen .. tend to bring medium/large dogs into the small area. There is running water available and the park generally has toys propped in the yard (unless someone walks off with it) On busy days the parking is more difficulty I find. read more

So we take our doodles here often and they always have fun. Today my dogs were having a great time playing and a couple came in with their 2 wolf mix dogs. Very shortly after one of the wolf dogs attacked my female doodle. My husband jumped up and tried to get between the dogs and the owner of the wolf type dog grabbed my husband by the head, twisted him around and threw my husband to the ground saying "they are just dogs". Our dog is fine but my 70 year old husband is not. He has a badly hurt back. I am infuriated that people think it is okay to take aggressive dogs to a public or any other type of dog park and then think it is okay to beat up an old man because he was trying to help his own dog. read more

Pros: Large open area with double gated fences and separate parts for large and small dogs. Water and trash cans are available although I did not see any bags provided there is a pooper scooper there next to each trashcan. I appreciated that there were chairs to sit down in for the dog parents. Friendly people.Everyone seem very attentive to picking up their dog waste. Cons: as noted in other reviews some people have no respect for the small versus large dog differentiation. There were several midsize dogs and then a couple of "horses"including one that I thought was either a very large golden doodle who was aggressive with my and other little dogs. Several of the small Chihuahua breeds were a bit "bitey" but that's fairly common with that breed. All in all a decent clean park. There is not much parking there and the presence of large more aggressive dogs on the small dog side coupled with the distance from my house means I won't likely come again. read more

Our first experience here... people have off leash dogs in the parking lot. Someone brought in a very aggressive Malinois that was jumping all the dogs and biting. So people started leaving. We went to leave and as our turn to go through the first gate a big black dog came up and was trying to leave with us. We tried getting it to move but it wouldn't so I threw a treat on the ground to distract it. We went through and closed the gate. As we were going out the final gate a lady came up and asked if I threw a treat on the ground and I said yes because the dog wouldn't get away. She starts screaming about it better not be meat because her dog doesn't eat meat. We won't be back to this Nut house. read more

I used to frequent this park but stopped going for a number of reasons. Pros: People are relatively friendly, as are most of the dogs. There are chairs, toys, clean up bags, and water bowls provided. There are two areas, one dedicated to large dogs, the other to small dogs. There is ample space for running and exercise. Cons: On most occasions that I've gone, people bring their large dogs into the small dog area, regardless of requests by several people to move to the large dog area. It's not about whether the large dog is aggressive. Rather, many small dogs are skittish around large dogs, or the large dogs play too rough, or one wrong step or fall could result in a major injury. It's just a recipe for disaster. Bring your dog into the appropriate area. Also, my small dogs were attacked by a man's two pit bulls in the small dog area. Other people were leaving when I arrived due to these dogs and that should have been my first clue. Unfortunately no action could be taken as no one patrols and the individual left when I called the police. My biggest complaint are the people who bring their dogs to the wrong area, then ignore requests by others to move. Please be courteous and abide by the rules without taking requests personally. read more

Maybe I went on the wrong day. But not even my dog liked it. We went to check it out since we read great reviews about the park and about people being regulars. It is nice to see the same faces. But it was not nice, not pretty, not big enough for us, people sits in closed circles which do not invite to sit next to them....so I do not know but maybe I went on the wrong day. Still, I definitely will not try it again, Update 06/01/2013 I just heard that last month a big dog killed a small dog at this park. Can somebody tell me if it is true? If true, this is another reason to do not go. This means a lot to me. It means that people are not being responsible for their dogs. Agressive dogs should not be brought to the park. And if not precedent of being agressive it means that the owner did not pay attention. read more

I'm not an "experienced" dog park person, but I've taken my new pooch here a couple of times. Its pretty big and all the pet owners are really nice and social. I think there needs to be more trash cans/plastic bags on all sides of the fenced parks because there is dog crap all around the perimeters. Also, a better drinking fountain would be nice and maybe some umbrellas for shade for us lazy dog owners that kinda sit on the benches :) however, my dog had alot of fun and didn't complain. read more

I felt bad about not taking my dog to the dog park as much as I used to but since moving to North Phoenix there's just not a lot of selection. The one that's closest to me is muddy and gross and the really nice one in Scottsdale is a pretty far drive which is no fun with a dog who wants to run around. Luckily my best friend mentioned this one which is only about 5-10 minutes from me. We decided to check it out with our fur babies and see if it was any good. It's easy to drive past when you're coming up Cave Creek to find it but once you know where it is you won't miss it again. There is a pretty good amount of parking so I don't see that being an issue. The area for the dogs is pretty good sized, is all grass so not muddy and there is a doggy drinking fountain and quite a few chairs scattered around. I noticed that even the area for the small dogs was large so they didn't skimp for the little ones like some dog parks do. Needless to say my dog had fun, got a bunch of exercise and made some new friends. Plus there were no dirty footprints left in my car when we went to leave. I'm very happy I found a good dog park near me so I won't feel like such a bad mommy anymore! read more

Good park for your dog if you're alone with them, but beware of other dog owners. I've had many negative experiences with large breed dog owners having really aggressive dogs and they act VERY aggressive towards my puppy for just entering the park. These people clearly cannot handle these large dogs, and my puppy will only continue to get bigger, all the while he's being taught bad manners by these dogs with these terrible interactions. I seriously hope these people get a grip on their pets and fix their behavior, or simply just not bring their dogs around others. Once mine is fully grown I won't be responsible for my dog defending himself from your aggressive dogs, you can eat shit along with them. So far the small breed owners have been great. They actually take care of their dogs and will supervise them. Sadly makes me wish I had a small breed sometimes just so he can have fun and play without getting aggressive dogs trying to tackle him or try to chase him away. PROS It's down the road from Pet Food Depot. They sell some quality dog food at decent prices. (A 44lb bag of Canidae has been $44 +tax for the past few months). People bring their excess plastic bags and stuff them into the dispenser. There are a few trees that will provide shade a few years down the road and a few benches on each side. There are plenty of lawn chairs that are left behind although I refuse to sit on them because I've seen more than one dog piss on them. I'm also not typically a sitter- I'm at the dogpark to exercise my dog, not socialize (I do that in bars or friends' homes) or hang out in cliques. There are pooper scoopers on both sides so a kind person will usually clean up after lazy and/or lax dog owners (I love the ones who watch their dog poop ... then turn away). CONS This location gets a fair amount of traffic. There are always a few dog scuffles whenever I go and I've seen more than a few bad ones in the 7-month span (August 2010-March 2011) I went to this dogpark. My dog was also bitten here in December 2010 (she was running past a dog after a tennis ball and he bit her without provocation- she still has a bald patch from the incident). Sometimes there are 100+lb dogs in the small dog side. One time my 35lb dog collided with a huge dog (who was running after a ball), and honestly, the velocity and mass of the dog could have done serious damage if she'd been hit the wrong way. Dogs have died at dogparks from running into other dogs (Google keywords: dog park death collision). People are pretty poor about picking up after their dogs (too busy socializing, zoning out, playing with their phone, reading, etc). Dog poop is NOT sanitary and can carry diseases. Each side is MAYBE 3 acres- it takes about a minute to walk to the garbage cans. Flies are not inconsequential- they spread disease. People bring their kids. I've seen 2 year olds toddling around. 1) It's not sanitary, 2) you don't know how kid-friendly dogs who come to dogparks are, and 3) it's a DOG PARK. If you'd like your child to be more comfortable around dogs, then do it in a more controlled environment (like your backyard with your friend's dog who you know likes children). People bring their dog's special toy. Once again, it's a DOG park. Dogs are going to play. By all means, get your toy back before you leave but if you're going to throw a fit if another dog runs off with your dog's special toy, leave the special toys at home and let the dogs enjoy themselves. No people/dog fountain or dog bathing station. There is a spigot on both the small and big dog side with a dirty plastic tub underneath but people usually fill up their own bowls and take it to their lawn chairs. The water pressure sucks. NEUTRAL It is NOT in a "shady" area (unless you are overly sheltered) and is right next to a major street (Cave Creek Rd). In addition, kids shouldn't be coming to DOG parks, anyway. If you live around the area, it's not necessary to drive elsewhere. It's dingy compared to chaparral but all I need is a fence and water for my dogs to just run so this place serves that purpose . Parking lot is tight . I like this dog park and so does my dog. If she's happy, I'm happy. She loves to run so the large space is quite convenient. My dog is between large and small so I take her on both sides. Very nice dog park with ample space for pups to run and play. The area is divided into "small dog" and "large dog" areas. It was really fun to have a chance for my little dog to run around and make friends! I would recommend coming during a cool part of the day and bringing a folding chair. There is only one stationary bench in each area so if I had know I would have brought my own chair to sit in the shade. Open from 5:30 am to sunset. No dog-watering facilites on site so bring your own water and bowls! Mutt-Mitt dog waste dispensers in each area. read more

I'm giving Grover's Basin a 4 overall, though it is a 5 in terms of people and dogs. I've made some great friends here, and WAAAAY prefer it over Chaparral Dog Park in Scottsdale. Even though there are more downsides, the quality of the upsides kind of cancel out the downsides. UPSIDE: great people, lots of regulars. great dogs. Faaar fewer arseh-le incidents (I'm talking people not dogs) than Chaparral Park. I gave up on Chaparral. Sometimes not enough parking. This is occasional, not usually a problem. Little shade in the winter, adequate the rest of the year. No sidewalk leading down to the small dog area. Strange city workers who complain about inconsequential things like "flies coming out of trash cans" while refusing to address far more important issues like why the h there are no trash cans on the west side of the small dog area, which is where many of the dogs do their dirtier business (southwest corner of small dog area). Like I said, strange. Keep your dog on leash people! The animal control truck sits up there in the parking lot occasionally, waiting to pop someone(s) with a ticket who has let their dog(s) off leash. read more

This is our favorite dog park, it's always clean, has doggie bags, some toys, water fountains for humans and pups and a variety of dog bowls around the area to use as well. The grass is in good shape, two different parks (large and small dog sections), plenty of trees and chairs for everyone to use. Very nice dog park. I took my pups there for the first time today. We did have to leave though when a woman attempted to bring her Rottweiler into the small dog side. I asked her not to and her male companion mansplained the rules to me and tried to tell me that any size dog is allowed in either side and to read the regulations. I then came home and called Parks and Recreation and was informed that was absolutely not true. Th small dog side is for dogs less than 20 pounds and any dogs larger than that need to be on the large dog side. The woman informed me that if that happens again anyone is within their right to call the police to ask them to remove the larger dog from the small dog park. I just wanted to pass that along because I know a lot of people who do not bring their dogs to parks anymore because of the large dog owners that can't respect the rules. read more

11/18/2012 - Also known as Echo Mountain Off Leash Arena, the dog park is down in a water retention basin as the name implies. It's accessed via a parking lot on East Grovers Ave., west of Cave Creek Road. There is a fenced grass section for small dogs and another fenced grass section for larger dogs. These areas are accessed via double gates which prevent dogs from escaping. Water is available from a faucet in each area and people have donated pails/bowls from which the animals can drink. Bring your own bowl if you dislike the communal drinking. There are several waste bag stations attached to the fences containing plastic bags provided by people that use the park (grocery bags, bread bags, etc.). There are 3 or 4 benches for sitting in each area and people have stocked the park with their own plastic patio chairs. Patrons have also left tennis balls and other toys with which the dogs can play. There is little shade as the trees that have been planted by the city are small and will need several years of growth before providing a larger shaded area in which to sit. As of this date, there are no artificial shade structures. Some shade material has been placed on the fences that may provide shade in the late afternoon if you sit next to the fence. There are no lights that would allow after dark activities. As you might expect, cleanliness is spotty as some people clean up after their animals and some don't. Although, I have seen people patrol the park with pooper scoopers cleaning up waste during their visits. The city has provided several waste bins. Plenty of room to let the dogs run. I just wish there was more shade for the warmer months. There is a group of interested patrons that seem to have adopted the dog park. Its a nice doggy park. Al;ways dogs to play with my shepard. She is 6 months old and loves going there. The two sides are nice to have, but people seem to go to both sides regardless of dog size. 2 stars because many of the people and the dogs that I've met here have been awesome and super friendly. However, I would give the actual dog park zero stars. There is no shade whatsoever here, so the only times I can come are at dawn, dusk, or if it happens to be cloudy. Otherwise my dog overheats! Plus there are no lights here so I can't bring him after dark when it's cool. It's not landscaped so it's basically just a big fenced off field. There are 2 areas, one for small dogs, and one for large dogs, however people bring their large dogs into the small dog area. Even if they're not aggressive, if they are a big dog I think they should be in the big dog area. My poor little dog gets scared with these giant dogs running around him. I'll probably continue to go here since I live so close, but definitely don't go out of your way to bring your dog here. read more

Park is good and well maintained except the fact that people bring big dogs in small dog area every day. City of Phoenix needs to enforce fines on these stupid people. The area is spacious, green, and has a lovely breeze thanks to its basin location. I prefer to go here after dark, when it's less busy. There is a sausage brigade that gathers here around 1700, and misogyny abounds. My butch gal pal was handed a bag to pick up poop, because her dog had allegedly done his business and we missed it...which would have been nice, except the man who handed her the bag was picking up THE ENTIRE PARK, and singled US out! In the words of Michelle Tanner, HOW WUDE. That's okay, though. Karma. Please be sure to lather up on some Off spray if you are susceptible to mosquito bites. I am mega mosquito bait, so my ankles never really manage to go unscathed. The nighttime crowd is eclectic and interesting. I really liked this park, I originally took my dogs here because I was bored and needed to get some stuff done around my house, and two tired dogs makes that process go by A LOT quicker. I figured I would take them every once and a while and let them burn some energy, but they had so much fun, we try and take them as much as they can. All I have to do is look at them and ask, "Dog park?" and they start barking at jumping at the door. I also figured that all dog parks would be the same but we tried to take them to another park and it was less than half the size, and twice as packed. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it is kinda tucked away in a kinda shady neighborhood which wouldn't have bothered me until my wife saw a trashy guy walking around with a tall beer can and swearing a lot.
