This is an excellent park in a convenient location full of friendly dogs and people. The enclosed area itself is sizable but all dirt, so your dog will definitely be dusty/muddy by the time you leave. The edges of the fence are lined with picnic tables and benches, and poop bags are provided. There are also bowls and a water fountain. We used to go to Quail Run because we live in west Mesa, but the people and dogs aren't as friendly as they are at Mitchell. If there were more available parking and grass in the park, this place would get 5 stars. Safe to say we're making the switch permanently!

I am in tempe for a few weeks with my pup for work. I was searching for a close dog park so I could take Toby the dog for some playtime while on a short break. I was lucky enough to find this park that was less than a mile from where we are at ASU. Toby was very excited! The fenced in area is decent size and has several park benches and tables . They also have a nice water fountain with a doggie dish for your thirsty doggy. Plastic poop bags are provided and the park is lighted after dark. The couple times we have gone it has been full of very nice playful dogs!

What a cute dog park! Plus it is a big dog park. There are plenty of benches for the parents to watch their doggies play with their friends. There is also shade for the dogs. What was awesome is that the park had plenty of water bowls for the dogs. Nena was having a hard time choosing which bowl to drink out of. She decided to try all of them. Best of all there was a pool for the dogs to cool of in. Yes it's just a plastic kid pool but it's the thought and idea that the park would provide this for dog lovers. Nena loved the pool!! This is a hidden treasure in Tempe.

This dog park is really small. Plenty of seating for people but not larger enough to support many large dogs. There are plenty of trees and shady areas though, which is a nice change of pace.

Super disappointed in the HUMANS at this dog park. I have NEVER seen a filthier dog park. I am upset because this place was cute, close by, the people were friendly. But I just cannot go back. Literally every 5 feet was a pile of dog poop. I dont understand how this happens considering there are bags and scoopers PROVIDED FOR FREE! Actually I do know how it happens, the owners are busy talking to each other, or texting or reading or on their lap top instead of watching their dog! Sad.

The water fountain doesn't work. So many flies it's nearly biblical. I expected a lot more dogs since it was near the university but was disappointed. The dogs were nice but no one seemed to picking up their poop. :-(

Absolutely NO PARKING might be a nice grass area but no parking and No separate areas for small or large dogs! Not impressed at all!

A smaller area, and is a nice enough of a park but at night the lighting is insufficient, and I have good eyes.

It's fun for me to see all the different types of breeds that come here. Most of the pups are well behaved. I've seen a couple times some negligent owners on their phones so spaced out, don't pick up their dogs poop or watch what their dogs are doing, but as far as dog parks go- it's the best for not having to stress that something negative will happen. I've been to other dog parks in the area that just had bad vibes. This one is nice and happy. It's as clean as a dog park can be, they do regular maintenance to the grounds, and there is a huge parking lot. It's also nice to walk the dogs in that area as well. My boys love it here and I'm happy to take them. Important to note- check the hours on certain days since they do the maintenance and close the parks. I've shown up a couple times forgetting about this and it was closed, so we just went for a nice walk instead.

During this eventful weekend, arriving early around 6am is ideal for grabbing the coveted spots under the trees. By 8am, the lot is likely full since the first heats have started. Street parking is also more than likely out of the question by then. During some downtime, I got the chance to explore the park and noticed lots of birds on the trees yapping away. Cranes over near the pond picking at morsels as far as I can tell. Canadian geese marching by and chilling near the gazebo. Medium sized fishes, possibly tilapia, congregating upstream in the river. Dog owners hanging and chatting while their pets pat each other down. Joggers passing by being careful not to step on the occasional brownie. Simply put, this is the abundance of the local park experience.

They also provide doggy Doodoo pick up bags. And water fountains for the dogs which have plumbed water so you can get fresh water for your pet. What's kind of discouraging is that people bring their dogs and leave the crap literally laying on the ground. I figure people who arrive when there's no one around just don't care. But it's frustrating. It's a dog park. We all share. We should all take care. Papago Park is actually very pretty and it's close to the trail so if you wanna go for a walk on the trails with your dog, it's in very close proximity. If you're here with your family, there's lots of areas to play for the kids as well. And this area of Tempe is very nice. So it's my second time coming and I'll probably come again since I'm here for two weeks. The people I encountered were very friendly and also very willing to do slow intros for our shy dog. So we didn't have any issues at all with aggressive dogs or pet owners who just seemed nonchalant about a small dog mix in with bigger dogs. So I could definitely appreciate that. Just warning to people who bring their dogs: pick up after your pet. No one else wants to pick up your dogs poop!!

I do enjoy coming here during the spring and fall months because it's a solid distance to walk, the sidewalks are wide, and there are a lot of community picnic areas. This park is so big, it stretches across both sides of Mill Avenue off Baseline Road. There's a place to rent paddle boats and bikes, and there are fishing areas spaced strategically around the lake. Something I also like is how easy it is to find shaded areas. This is a very family friendly park with space for children to play. It's also a great place to bring your dog and have your daily walk. There is a recreation center on the SE side of Mill Avenue that houses tennis courts (and I believe there's a pool). Also within this area is a large playground. Like, genuinely well done. They space the vendor area far enough from the stages so you're not fighting for your life trying to shop while also dodging people who are deep in their "vibe." Huge win. The stages are set up in a way where, even when artists are playing at the same time, it doesn't feel like a chaotic sound clash, which I did not expect but fully appreciated. Also noticed they adjusted the layout a bit this year (especially around the Rise Up stage), and it worked. Way smoother flow overall. GA+ still not exactly bursting at the seams, but hey, more room for the rest of us. Sound? On point. Setup? Thought out. Experience (overall)? Actually great. Now... the people. Let's just say there comes a moment in life where you realize a fan base is no longer your fan base. And for me, that moment was somewhere between hour 8 and hour 9 of holding down my spot, when I got full-on trampled by someone who apparently believed personal space is a myth. Ma'am. I had been standing there for nearly 9 hours. NINE. This was not a casual pop-in situation. Up until that point, everything had been amazing. The music, the energy, the flow, chef's kiss. But that one interaction? Immediate vibe break. That said, I'm choosing growth here: I genuinely hope she finds whatever she's running toward... and maybe learns how not to run directly through people to get there. Overall though? One thing we didn't come across was a public restroom, so it's unclear where the nearest one is located. Overall, it's a great area to visit and enjoy events. My only suggestion would be to add more parking options or provide a designated free parking area for visitors, so not everyone has to pay for parking.
