Laundry is the worst, isn't it? Well, if you hate doing laundry as much as I do, this place is not going to make it any more pleasant. This laundromat is the literal worst. I tried to be okay with it a few years ago when I moved here since it's walking distance from my house, but stopped coming after a couple of loads of clothes melted in the wash (!) and I had a couple uncomfortable experiences with the people working here and the homeless. Fast forward to today. Had a laundry emergency. I figured, one load, no problem. It has gotten so much worse! I couldn't even believe it. Went in, the change machine didn't want to work, the lady on duty was too busy chatting to notice my struggle. Everything was dirty. Had to move my clothes several times due to broken machines. Was so disgusted I almost just abandoned my clothes. Never again. Not even in an emergency.

Five stars, this is a one stop shop. If you want to do laundry. You can drop it off to them or pick one of the many upgraded machine. Flat Screen TV's on site help. Clean well maintained sense the new owners over.

Ruined belt bc the person doing my laundry did not take it off my jeans.

Love this place. Always clean, nice folks who work there and they offer doing laundry by the pound.

Clean, new, and local.. best of all, I've been here twice now and no panhandlers or dope fiends selling shady stollen goods. Not bad!

The neon sign of the location really adds a nostalgic, classic appeal. I had one pair of vintage Levi's cleaned after having acquired them on the resale market, and had challenges with getting them cleaned and thoroughly deodorized; even after three wash cycles, an overnight distilled white vinegar soak, and a direct sunlight air dry. After all that didn't work, I decided to bring my denim to Ideal for a final attempt. I dropped off on Wednesday and asked for Friday pick-up which the owner said was possible. I called on Thursday to see if an earlier pick-up was possible, and provided my ticket number to which I got a call back after checking on my piece. I was told that Friday morning would allow for service completion- which was fine. I picked the denim up first thing on Friday morning, and the scent I was trying to get out is completely gone. The quick turn around, friendly service and supporting a local business, Ideal is a great choice. For my one pair of denim, I paid $8. This is more than reasonable. Great service, quick turn around and much better than other cleaners. I will be going to Ideal for my pieces, and am interested in having a cleaning done on bigger pieces I have. Suggesting for anyone looking for a good cleaner to try Ideal. To note, with current construction in downtown Oakland, getting there is tougher than usual. And for new customers, push the door hard, it felt like it wasn't unlocked when I first came in. ahah

Hands down this is the best business I have been to in a long time. The family who owns and runs this company are incredibly kind and caring, and I am so thankful to be able to come to this place and trust that my child's clothes and bedding are cleaned with the utmost care; they even package his little clothes neatly in paper. Oh, the joy it brings me to spend my money here!! Side note: I got locked out of my car one day, and the family made sure I was able to contact AAA. The father even looked out for me until they came. This is exactly what our community needs. Thank you, Grand Ave Launderette Family!

I just purchased a linen quilt and new sheets for the summer and wanted to give them a good wash so took them to GAL. Stopped by Friday morning and was greeted with friendly smiles and help opening the door. The owners sorted through my items and gave me an estimated price. They also offered me a discount because it was my first time there. The owner wanted to make sure I understood that the linen quilt may be wrinkly, and I was like, "I hope so!" Ha! We also discussed pick-up time. They noted they could get the items to me later that day, but I told them I might have a meeting and asked if I could pick up the next morning. They were very accommodating. Upon pick-up, all of my items were ready and packaged beautifully. I was so happy to have a freshly laundered bed without the headache. A quick note: the hours on Yelp are their typical hours, but they've adjusted them during the pandemic. Friday, they were open 9 AM- 3 PM.

I've been coming to Alameda Launderland with my family for years, but our experience with the…read moreevening attendant on September 18 was extremely upsetting. Around 9:30 PM, my dad needed additional change to finish drying our laundry. The attendant told him the change machine was turned off after 9:30. Although she eventually helped him, her tone was unnecessarily rude and condescending. Around 9:55 PM, I watched her assist another customer with change without displaying the same attitude toward him. Later, while I waited to retrieve clothes from a dryer, the attendant continued changing a trash bag directly in front of it without acknowledging me. She only moved after another customer spoke up. The biggest issue involved the laundry carts. Twice, she took a cart I was actively using, despite approximately eight or more other carts being available and nobody waiting for one. When I questioned why this was necessary, she cited a "new rule" from the owner and mentioned that the owner monitored the cameras. When I expressed that I felt singled out by how aggressively the rules were being enforced, she told us that if we were the "type of people" who thought we were above the rules, we should go somewhere else. That comment was particularly upsetting. We weren't asking for special treatment or exemptions from the rules. We simply expected to be treated respectfully. By the time we finished our laundry, I was physically shaking with anger and holding back tears. I've generally had positive experiences with the other attendants over the years, which made this incident especially disappointing. UPDATE -- October 2026 (3 stars): Following my review, the owner personally reached out, apologized, and confirmed that my concerns had been reviewed and addressed with the employee involved. Management also assured me that expectations regarding the cart policy would be clarified with staff. I've since returned and had a much better experience with another attendant, who was courteous and helpful. However, the employee involved in my original complaint wasn't working that day, so I cannot yet speak to whether her behavior has improved. I'm raising my rating from 1 to 3 stars to acknowledge management's responsiveness and efforts to address my concerns. My original experience still stands, but I also believe in giving credit where it's due.
