I bought a pair of slacks that must have been made for a woman almost 6 feet tall. I am only 5'6" which is not short. I was walking on the hems. I took them to Rockridge Cleaners on a Friday to be rehemmed, 4 to 5 inches had to be cut off. I picked up them the next Monday and they were ready and I no longer walk on the hems! Beautiful/fast service. How come men can buy slacks/trousers that fit (their pant legs come in different lengths) but women can't and have to pay as much as the cost of the slacks/trousers to get them to fit? read more

We were looking for a dry cleaner closer to the house, as we love our place but it's a little far. We live across the street from Rockridge Cleaners so we were hoping we'd have a positive experience here and that we could continue to use them again. However, we won't be returning. On our first visit here they messed up my pants. I wouldn't recommend that you trust them with any of your items. I don't even understand what happened. All I know is that the bottom of my left pant leg came home with different stitching. I am thinking that maybe they messed up the previous hemming and did a quick stitch job to try to correct it? It's pretty noticeable in comparison to the other pant leg that they didn't adjust. I don't get how they messed up my pants enough for a need to correct them when I only asked for them to be launder and pressed. I also don't get why they thought it would be best to try to correct it so poorly and never mention anything to me when I picked them up (I didn't check until I got home). It would have been better if they were honest about it, but the whole thing seemed like a cover up. We won't be returning. read more

This has been my go to cleaners for about 20 years. Always good service, kind owners. I'm happy this business is close by.

I came to rockridge cleaners to have my curtains dry-cleaned. They were professional, they asked me what I was looking for, measured my alterations in front of me, and double-checked my order. I brought 4 curtains, 2 of them were destroyed. They didn't call me to tell me this had happened, I had to reach out to them a week after the fact. When they finally followed up, they offered to not charge me for the two articles they had destroyed + the hemming on one of them. Very generous. However, they insisted on charging me for the curtains that were intact. I explained that I would have to replace the entire set as a result of the damage because the curtains are not for sale on the market. That did not care, citing the fact that destroying the curtains was not their fault and that they had lost money to do the work. I own a business myself. When, on occasion, my actions cause a negative impact on my clients, I do my best to offer compensation regardless of a small financial loss to myself. Had this business simply eaten the cost of this small cleaning job and offered me the intact curtains, I wouldn't be leaving this review. They didn't. (And I didn't give them money for the intact curtains. Which means they still ate the cost of the cleaning job + they lost a client. As a business owner, I can't understand it. For the pride of knowing they didn't back down, they lost a client.) I think this place probably does good work. They just don't don't adhere to an American standard of customer service. If they damage your stuff, they won't take responsibility and you won't receive compensation. read more

I just moved to Oakland and have been trying out dry cleaners. I was spoiled with my super cheap guys in San Francisco who were literally across the street (Now I have to walk almost a mile). After trying out several other cleaners (scathing reviews to pop up on their sites shortly), I had an emergency mold problem and was forced to take 17 items to a dry cleaner FAST! Rockridge cleaners was close and I hadn't used them yet, so I closed my eyes and handed over my favorite DVF dresses and Calvin Klein suits. The woman behind the counter looked over the mold on the sleeves and convinced me that it wouldn't be a problem. Luckily I didn't have to pay until I picked them up, but I was preparing for the worst and brought $200 cash to bail my clothes out of dry cleaner prison. My jaw literally hit the floor when every item was cleaned perfectly- they looked even better than when I bought them- and I got the whole kit and caboodle done for $95! After reading the reviews I took my mom's prom 1964 prom dress there. It is white and looks like a wedding dress. They only charged me $30 to clean it, which i thought was a great deal. The shop was very/new clean and the woman at the counter very nice. I will come back here. Located in the Safeway parking lot so sometimes you can't park near the entrance. read more

I've been coming here for a while now, and they always do a phenomenal job with my dry cleaning. I've also had a bunch of alterations done here for bridesmaid dresses, and I'm always impressed with the results. My boyfriend also got a suit tailored here, and they did a great job. I love the prices too. They are reasonably priced, which helps when you are a teacher in the Bay Area. I have a wedding to attend this weekend. It's Friday night, and I had dropped my dress off Monday. But I've been so slammed work, I didn't have a chance to pick up my dress. So at 6:37 PM, I call out of desperation. Maybe the hours posted on Yelp are wrong. Maybe they're open until 7 PM or maybe they open at 7 AM on Saturday.. Side note, have you seen the lovely orchids at the Dry Cleaners front window? Me: "Are you still open?" Orchid Lady: "No, we're closed. We close at 6:30 PM." Me: "Oh no. What time do you open tomorrow?" Orchid Lady: "9 AM." Me: "Oh, no! I have an appointment---" Orchid Lady: "Can you get here in 10 minutes? I'll stay late for you if you can be here in 10 minutes." And so I bolted out the door. When I arrived she was patiently waiting and unlocked the door to let me in. When I realized I need to run out and get cash to pay my bill, she was still very pleasant. When a cleaner takes in a scarf to be pressed, to remove the wrinkles and folds, wouldn't you think they would give it back to you with LESS creases and wrinkles and not more? Complete waste of money. However, the folks that run the place are very nice. When my fiance went back to point out the creases were still there, and then some, they refunded his money without hassle. read more

I really like this place. Great prices, nice location, and the woman who runs the place is friendly, competent, and straight-forward. There's a parking lot right in front of the door, suburb style. Major points right there b/c who wants to walk around with a bunch of dry cleaning you just picked up? It can be a bit hard to find though, you gotta go past the Starbucks and around the corner. It's not in the same part of the shopping center as Safeway and the bank. I've taken two things to be spot cleaned here with fair warning that it would be a tough job. The pair of white shorts with mango salsa came back spotless, and the light blue cashmere sweater with the small mystery spots came back improved. Here are my reasons for rating Rockridge Cleaners a 1 star from my recent experience. 1 - Rockridge Cleaners does not display any of their pricing anywhere that I could find, which I thought was odd, so I called in advance to ask about pricing and was told it was $2.25 to launder dress shirts and $4.75 to dry clean pants. 2 - I brought in a dress shirt that had a very small stain on it (it was literally a 1 cm dot from soy sauce). I pointed it out so that they would be aware when laundering the shirt. Instead they told me I had to personally spot treat the stain before they would even take the shirt. How does paying $2.25 to launder a shirt not warrant "cleaning" the shirt. Are you only allowed to bring clean shirts to be laundered? Makes absolutely no sense to me. I had never heard something like that ever before from a dry cleaners but I took the shirt home and left it at that. 3 - When I came to pick up my items I was surprised when I was told dry cleaning pants was $6. I told the cashier what I was told on the phone and my confusion on what I was told versus what I am currently being charged. A simple apology for the miscommunication is all that was called for, but instead the cashier felt it was better to pass the blame on me. After receiving her snide remark that the pricing was always $6 and that I was in the wrong I felt it was necessary to let others know of this ridiculous experience. Maybe if they displayed their pricing ANYWHERE situations like this wouldn't happen but they probably think that's my fault too. I'm not sure how I should be to blame for their incorrect communication but in my opinion they need to get their information straight, clearly list their pricing somewhere/anywhere, and work on their customer service/interactions. Rockridge Cleaners are one of the more expensive dry cleaners in the area, which provided me mediocre service at best. There are far better dry cleaners out there that provide FAR better service. I wouldn't recommend anyone place their clothing here unless you really like paying top $$$$ for sub par service. read more

I had several normal experiences with them laundering my shirts, then I decided that I needed to dry clean my new suit. What I received in return was someone else's used suit. I went to talk with the woman who works there (owner?). She was completely insistent that this other suit, was in fact my suit, and that the tags proved it. I know that it was not my suit, because I had recently bought the suit myself for work. The suit she gave me in return had a different number of buttons, and a thinner lapel. Update: After an absence of a year or two while the mall was being demolished and rebuilt, this business is back. They have the same friendly and efficient service as before. (It was lovely to see the owner again -- I missed her.) The new space is right near the brand new, gigantic Safeway and expanded Pet Food Express, which is very convenient. The owner told me that they are green now -- no chemicals. I hope they are successful in this new space. --------- The service is friendly and efficient, and the clothes come back clean. The location near Safeway and CVS makes it convenient for one-stop shopping. I do wonder what's going to happen to this business when Safeway begins tearing down that part of the mall in June 2011 to make way for a new, larger Safeway. read more

I love this place. The owner is very nice and professional. I had an oily stain on some expensive trousers, and she wasn't sure they could get it out. She asked us to leave it for several days so that it could be processed twice if necessary. It was necessary but it came out perfectly. The price was $6. You can't beat that. read more

I go to a dry cleaner for a reason, to keep my fresh clothes fresh... i brought in some jeans with bbq sauce on them, and a wrinkly button up shirt... the lady looked at it and told me to go wash them at the laundry instead... I told her i get my things dry cleaned so they stay looking nice... all she did was pull the tags from inside and said ''look, good for laundry cleaning''. pretty sure she just didn't know how to spot clean for jeans, AND A SHIRT?! the shirt was not even dirty, i just wanted it dry cleaned to stay fresh... $5 an item, plus not knowing their own industry/cleaning techniques... won't be coming here again. read more

I've been going here for 5 years and always a positive experience. They've tailored bridesmaid dresses, consignment, couture, everything. I think many of the people with negative reviews here misunderstand the lady's intention. She isn't refusing to clean clothes to be difficult, she's actually trying to save people money if they don't need to dry clean something! I came in with a wine-stained plaid dress-shirt, which the shop-keeper said she would try to remove, but gave no promises. Unfortunately, even after her unspecified "special treatment," the stain is still present. The annoying part of this experience for me is that the shop-keeper was defensive about the stain, and said that it was impossible to remove -- she just wanted me to give her the $2 and leave -- less than helpful experience. While the stain is light, it is definitely still visible. I will be looking/asking around for other options. read more
