Teitel Brothers is the place to go for any sort of deli item when you're shopping on Arthur Avenue - for everything except mozzarella, because you need to go to Casa Della for that. But for everything else, you can't beat the prices and efficiency you get here. Prosciutto di Parma is ~$15/lb which is as cheap as the real stuff is going to get in my experience. Of course you can get the domestic Boars Head or other brands, but they are totally different products. Parmigiano is ~$12/lb here I believe, also an excellent price. And you know you are getting a fresh product given the volume of people they serve here everyday. Highly recommended. Kind of a free-for-all, you have to fend for yourself especially at Christmas and other busy times, but worth it for the prices and quality. read more

Hands down the BEST place on Arthur Ave! If you have never been before you are seriously missing out. As soon as you walk in the door you can smell the memorizing aroma of the meats and cheeses. The guys behind the counter are so helpful and accommodating. They will often say "hey I have something for you to try". My husband and I absolutely love this deli. We travel from upstate NY about an 1hr1/2 drive but it is so worth it. The selection of their food products are unbelievable! My favorite place on Arthur Ave, by far. I don't think this place has ever changed, but when something's this great, why should it? I like this store because there are no frills, no stupid philosophy behind the store. Some specialty stores (I'm thinking of Dean and Deluca's) can be highfalutin and criminally overpriced. Teitel is the real thing. The meats and cheese are excellent. The prices are very reasonable for what you're getting. Consider the large jars of Roland's Pesto. For what would cost you 20-30 bucks elsewhere will run you 9 at Teitel. I make cheese and pesto runs about every month. The amarettini cookies are also a good buy. The staff is great too. They will recommend what's fresh, or what's special if you ask. Just don't be afraid to elbow your way though to the front. The place gets crowded, and if you don't make continued eye contact with the staff, you'll get passed over. The meek do not inherit anything in Teitel. read more

Excellent products and great staff;no numbering system which usually makes me walk right out of a business because people do not know how to act except like crazy animals in a situation like that;however, I asked one of the owners when I walked in what to do as they didnt have a number system in place and she got one of the staff to help me,which was great for me but not a system. As usual I was there super early and the store was not crowded so it worked out;otherwise, the store is teeny-tiny but loaded with great products. I've been coming to the Teitel Brothers store for more than 30 years and although I moved from the Bronx to Queens in the 1980's, I still only get the best Italian products at Teitel Brothers, so I paid the bridge and come because they are the best!! As others have said: busy, tight space and kind of like a free for all at times with customers and counter help trying to stay orderly. But somehow, with some time and patience from all involved, it all works out for everyone in the end. And it really is worth it. They have everything from fresh olives and anchovies, all types of dried pastas, cans of everything italian and great cold cuts. But my favorite here is the fresh parmigiano reggiano. Aged 3 years and $9.99/lb: a definite steal whe compared to others that sell it. It is nutty, creamy and cut to order from the block. Fantastic!! Came here looking for stracciatella, they didn't have it but Eddie was very nice and phoned a friend who made it fresh for us at a deli around the corner. The space is tight and packed with Italian products. Lots of dried sausages and cheeses. Their Parmesan sample was delicious as well. Tons of character, great food, great advice. What more could you want (except maybe a better location for manhattanites)? The young guy I've spoken with behind the counter is apparently part of the family-run biz and he will tell you all sorts of insider things like "this tomatoes in this can are like down the street from the region which is allowed to be called san marzano--so it's just as good and half the price." He'll also tell you what to look for when choosing olive oil. And just about everything else in the store. Come with either a car or a strong backpack and you'll be set. I am a big fan of Teitel. This is the King of imported Italian foods products. There is no other store in the United States that provides the same quality products for these honest prices. You will not find here a large number of regional specialties and culinary extravaganzas alike like for example at Mario Batali's Eataly. But you will find a good variety of "staple" Italian items, the must-have. Parmigiano Reggiano, caciocavallo, prosciutto, olives, baccala', caputo flour, de cecco pasta, panettone ecc. They are mostly priced to be competitive and well deserve a trip from the city. If you like me are from Italy, you will appreciate being able to stock up with all the nécessaire from this incredible store, at prices that will not kill your budget. Great store with fair prices. One tip. If you mean to buy cheese please do yourself a favour and taste it before you eat it. If you just ask for cheese you will get the newest block. You want the oldest and driest cheese so please taste it. If it's not dry enough say you want it drier, they will get another block. Don't settle for cheese which isn't at it's peak. read more

Fabulous, amazing. I have been a Teitel Brothers shopper for about 15 years. Hands down, this is THE best Italian specialties shop in all of New York. Perhaps even in Italy... recently a Rome native (Italian-speaking only) visitor to the US reported to me Teitel brothers Parmesean cheese was the best she'd tasted, too. I generally shop at Teitel brothers about 1 - 2x per month. For years, I made the drive from Westchester, and now from UWS in Manhattan. It's a quick, 15 minute ride to Arthur Ave, easy parking and well worth it. I often meet my best friend there and we shop at our favorite places, but Teitel is always first on our list. This is a very fun place! The cheeses, grocery items, specialty Italian imported delicacies, olives, beans... absolutely everything is fresh, highest quality and super well priced. Last week, I went to the best Italian grocery store in New York, Teitel Brothers. Everything is wonderful. All of the cheeses are so delicious. I especially like the Parmesan, provolone and their truffle cheese. They have the best sausage that I have ever tasted!!! Spectacular! And the prices are the best on Arthur Avenue!! Everything that you need for an Italian dinner can be purchased at this great grocery/deli. The atmosphere is very friendly and full of energy. The staff is always helpful & very nice!
