Not happy with this location second time I got some spoiled meat and hearing that others have had the same problem

I've been coming here for the past 3 or so and it's the first time they asked me check my knapsack. It's funny how they won't ask someone to check a large handbag. But my small knapsack was to much. I guess today is Esmeralda and the older lady that was doing bag check today thought it was too much. Will not be coming back to spend my money here. read more

The store itself was ok however, the women at the entrance are very rude and unprofessional. On 7/4/25. My son and I entered the store a young lady told my son in a nasty tone you can't take your bag into the store. Her communication skills were very lacking, her tone was just rude and disrespectful. On the way out a second employee snatched the ticket to retrieve my son's bag out of his hand. The second employee and my son had words because of her rudeness. She spoke rude to me as well. I wrote a review 3 years ago, since then I can honestly say there veggies are not good, if you buy them use them within two day. Their fruit good luck ! it's hit or miss more miss. I live in the neighborhood and go every week. There is alot I do not buy there. A lot of the products I use to buy are gone. They have a lot of their own brand. No delivery service I went there and filled out cart spend an hr inside shopping and when I got to the Register they said they don't deliver anymore. What Keyfood doesn't deliver? I was so upset. How are they gonna make business for the people that don't drive. Or even the older ppl that live in the neighborhood that do not drive. Boycott this so called supermarket! Their prices are higher than Manhattan and they have security guards with body cameras! They wouldn't let me shop wearing a backpack but I had an expensive item in my backpack and I just wanted to buy juice and eggs! They have 3 people at the entrance wasting their day guarding shopping bags and shopping carts!. This place should just shut down and let a real supermarket into the neighborhood! read more

When it comes to food shopping, Key Food isn't the first place that comes to my mind. The brand has been around for ages but with the dawn of places like Fairway and Trader Joe's plus chains like Shop Rite stepping their game up, Key Food is generally on the back burner for me. However, this particular Key Food is an exception. Also known as Bonavita, the supermarket is located on Westchester Ave in Pelham Bay, just off the 6 train. I stopped in here a few days ago to spice up my routine and it really reminded me how much I like this place. You might think whatever at first, but the store is clean and organized with excellent deli and meat sections. I was also really surprised at their other offerings; for example, I would never have thought I would find Dave's Killer Bread in a Key Food yet there it was. The aisles are pretty wide too, making it easy to navigate even when it's semi-crowded. I still stand by my opinion that this is the best supermarket in the east Bronx, and its definitely worth a stop in to check out at least once. read more

I travel a lot and have been to many markets and Supermarkets all over the world but guess what? I love our Bonavita Key Food the best! Especially since they remodeled the WHOLE STORE! I've been shopping there for over 20 years and have always found it well stocked with many brands and unusual items as well. I love how clean and brightly lit the store is and now with bigger isles! The produce section is always fresh, beautiful and big! Now I have many favorite Delis and Deli departments in the Bronx for different items. But I have to say that their Deli is full of stunning, delicious in house made salads, Boar Head, Land o Lakes and other top brands of cold cuts, knishes, and many hot prepared dishes! When I can't make my own, this is my "go to place" for meatballs! Best meatballs in a nice sauce! Their in house butcher are wonderful and will make your meat cut to order! Great quality meat which stretches the back and side of store! They have organic, gluten free, ethnic brands, and comparable prices for the area. It never fails, I go in for a couple of items and because of their weekly sales items which are numerous and great deals, I walk out with bags of items! I also love that they have their own parking lot with eco-friendly solar lighting! The whole staff is wonderful making sure all customers are happy with a big staff covering every department to help you, an abundance of cashiers to make your line wait non existent most of the time and great managers that make their store run like a well oiled machine! I live nearby and have stopped shopping here. The service is ridiculous, the stocky loud old Italian guy treats everyone as if they are common thieves. The ratty haired cashiers all have attitudes and the vulgar conversions they have amongst each other, while ringing is outlandish. The deli workers are rude and I witnessed them laughing at an overweight woman who had entered the store. I'm not sure what the requirements are to work here, if it's for the typical racist Italian of Pelham Bay, Loose Women, or Ghetto Deli workers then I'd say they found their calling. read more

Much out of date items on the shelf and if you bring them back they give you a hard time we're your customer service skills check your shelves rotate why give your customer a hard time we have so many choices to go shop other stores definitely need a good manager to teach your employees how important customers are read more

Great supermarket right under the 6 train 2 blocks from pelham bay station!. Great selections and prices! Always fresh. I don't recommend the stores made mac n cheese. Its always a hit or a miss. The Italian combo and chicken marsala is always on point near the deli area. The ribs and shrimp rings are always on point too. read more

This must be said!! The produce section is unsanitary when it comes to the slice fruits. My experience is that they're always sour. And today was no different !! No one should have to pay, for something that should have been in the garbage in the first place. And Y'all over there selling old fruits as well at a discount price of course. Beware of the expiration dates on your food at this market. They neglect to remove expired foods off the shelves. Also, the cut up fruit in containers is always spoiled. On the outside it looks good n when u get home, the fruit inside is rotten. Some cashiers have a face n bit of an attitude, n don't say thank u and over pack 1 bag. To me, it's only convenient because it's closer than the other markets n cheaper. Check your expiration dates! read more

Bona Vita Key Food! "The Good Life" says Kanye. The good: The produce is good. The supermarket is clean. I rarely have to wait long for checking out. I went yesterday afternoon at 6 PM and they were 8 empty cashiers, waiting for work. Nice. The bad: Tomatoes always don't last long (mushy) but that's a problem everywhere. I am not sure what the Key Food shopper's card benefits are. There's no cold beer. I asked the manager and he told me it was the prevent from the stock boys from drinking it in the back. Quality. The ugly: You're in your car on Westchester Avenue. You're wondering why you aren't moving. Guess what? It's often caused by a f-cking gridlock from the Key Food parking lot and from Sands Place. This has to be the worst supermarket I have gone to not because they didn't have a great selection. But I'm just going to start with the community being very stuck up. I'm guessing since its a predominantly Italian neighborhood some people think it's ok to act as if their superior. But yet again it's still the bronx not beverly hills. Look. I've tried with this supermarket. I really have. I've lived in this neighborhood for 5 years. I have literally never had a good experience walking into this place. It's so bad...I live right around the corner from the market...and I still order my food online. It's so bad that a few times during this pandemic, I couldn't order food from my normal place so I had Instacart go here for me instead just so that I didn't have to go through the experience. When I first got here, I was so excited to have a market so close. Then I went in to do some REAL shopping...why did I do that? What should have been a routine trip to the store turned into one of the worst experiences ever. I don't know what it is, but the customers and staff here are about the most bigoted, stuck up group of people I have ever encountered in a supermarket. The neighborhood is mostly Italian and Italian women (young and old) are the worst offenders of this behavior. I said what I said. It is behavior that makes you feel like: a. you don't belong in the store b. we have a right to police you while you are in the store and c. we will make this a terrible experience for you so you don't come back (cashiers/staff)...this is OUR store. What doesn't help is that the staff and management does nothing to make this a more friendly and inclusive place to shop in. Instead, the cashiers and managers reflect behavior by being rude to you and greeting "the regulars" with nothing but willing and able smiles. I've literally seen black men and women on line get mumbled to by cashiers, only to have the first white woman behind them greeted boisterously. Despite the number of times I've been to the store, I am routinely followed by staff who offer no assistance. My friend visiting from out of town came back home in tears after her first trip here...she could not believe how rude they were to her. I could cite many more examples but what sounds like benign "New Yorker" behavior is really behavior based in bigotry and intimidation. It's disgusting. I've had this experience in a few places in the neighborhood and its one of the things that really should be addressed politically. People shouldn't be made to feel as if they don't belong in a store or business in the neighborhood they live in. I suppose they expect me to get on the 12 bus and shop with the "others" at Stop and Shop, right? I complained to Key Food Headquarters about this a few years ago and avoided going for a long time. I recently braved a trip in for few items and NOPE...same behavior, same deal (thus why I'm writing). The neighborhood is what it is, but it is the responsibility of EVERY business owner to ensure that EVERYONE (not just the people you know or the ones that look like you) is made to feel welcome and safe. I laughed and have to agree with another reviewer that said this is a stuck up supermarket. I think they really have convinced people to really believe this is the neighborhoods fancy supermarket. The employees don't pack your things and at times can be very rude. It should have self checkouts because it would save a lot of headaches since the young female cashiers don't ever want to work without huffing and puffing like your annoying them for just trying to pay. The manager upfront watching the cashiers allows it because she seems to not even want to be there as well. This supermarket does sell nice meat I'm not going to lie. The new solar panels in the parking lot are making customers take up 2 parking spots instead of one. I park far away from the front now someone dinged the side of my car a few weeks ago. The new second parking lot can't be used? I do wish the isles were bigger, 2 carts can barely get by and you have many elderly people shopping here. The cashiers get the job done but their not friendly, or social. They are usually having conversations amongst themselves. Seeming pretty snobbish and annoyed when you ask questions. Most things pricey but a decent selection. It's not my main place to go food shopping but I go in for quick pickups when I need something. read more

Be careful! Cashiers will keep your stuff. I didn't realize until I got home. I was charged my soy yogurts, but when I got home I didn't have them. I didn't go back, because I was already in Brooklyn, but never going back there. Absolutely love this place, always clean and always stocked. Isles are sometimes over crowded with boxes but it shows they keep things socked well. Meat dept is always bringing our fresh meats and chicken. Only place I trust with buying meat. The girls at the checkout are awesome as well, friendly and always talking to customers. A bit of background: In Co-Op City, its slim pickins' for produce; you either head to the 24-hour Pathmark aka Filthmark thats at Bay Plaza, the equally gross Stop-n-Shop, or your local Bravo/C-town thats in your 'section'. My section is "5"; and with I-95, the Hutch River Parkway, *AND* Pelham Parkway isolating us from soceity like a red-headed stepchild, you can imagine the quality of supermarkets that I'm faced with. Hence, it's nice to visit a supermarket that's clean, well stocked, and has a kick-ass deli counter with proscuitto and pancetta! I hearts my italian pork products (for pasta carbonara, natch), and its nice to have found a clean place near me that provides them. They've also got the Fage 2% Greek Yogurts with Honey that until recently I could only find at Whole Foods/Trader Joes type stores...thank you for saving me from that 3 hour round-trip journey to Union Square. Prices are fare, lots of italian orgin items to choose from (a reflection of the neighborhood, I'm guessing), those Lipton Noodle-ly sides are always 5 for $5, and there's always a sale on some kinda basic yet overlooked item (eg: "Wow, lean ground turkey is $.13 a pound? I better stock up!") However....Its a bit far for my 'section 5 and I don't drive' residing self, BUT, its two blocks away from Planet Fitness, so should I decide to work-out, I'll usually end up multitasking and visiting both. Oh, and no cash back from debit purchases...whats up with that? read more

I come here from time to time to get some groceries. This place has a excellent deli and has good bread and a good butcher section. The selection of groceries is pretty good, but not as much as the bigger name chains. I find the pricing to be a little higher than the big supermarkets, but this market is always clean and tidy which is nice and the parking lot is good except a few years ago when they installed those solar panels it makes a parking a little more of a pain other than that this a good supermarket especially for the locals. read more

It is the most over priced supermarket, Whole Foods Trader Joe's is cheaper, produce is horrible not fresh at all, their seafood department is small pretty much non existent most of their seafood is frozen, I wouldn't recommend this supermarket, maybe if it's an absolute emergency, and you will regret you had gone because of how pricey it is read more

I have been shopping in key food bonavita in the Bronx for years.this is the only store in the area in which I shop.it Pains me to say that I will no longer be a customer.why? because they sell rotted produce that is expired.the romaine lettuce last week had an expired date from august 24th.we are in September.today same thing happened expired september1st today is September 14th really keyfood 2 weeks later? When I mentioned this to one of the workers his answer was yea I know. What kind of answer is that to give to a customer? also the tomatoes are being sold rotted and high priced at that. How does the produce manager put this out for our consumption When it is clearly ROTTED? I attempted to shop at this store earlier this morning and was refused entry due to their bag policy that requires you to check bags at the door. I explained to the woman at the door that I have no use of my right hand due to a recent car accident injury that required stitches. Carrying my reusable bag over my shoulder is the only way I can carry my groceries without hurting myself. The woman at the door told me I could take a cart, which I explained I could not steer & then she told me I could take a basket, which I can not hold. I offered to have my bag searched upon exit, she said no. I asked if someone was available to shop with me, she said no. I was forced to leave since they would not accommodate my injury and pay double at a smaller store. I called to explain the situation to a manager and spoke with Carlos. He explained in an annoyed tone that there were no exceptions to store bag policy even for those who can't push a cart or carry the basket when it's heavy. I have been shopping at this Key Food my entire life and have never been treated poorly, but this experience forces me to shop elsewhere going forward. read more

The solar panels in the parking lot are making poor drivers into poor parkers. The aisles are so small and they insist on putting big displays of merchandise on the sides of each aisle, so it's impossible to ever walk down the aisles. You spend your time stopping, letting another shopper go first, or having to avoid aisles all together. It's like driving down a block full of double parked cars. Instead it's shoppers with carts maneuvering around displays. There was also a bird flying around the store, and I guess they don't care. If I find bird poo on my apples I guess it's a bonus. read more

While checking out, some Essentia waters were marked for more than thr advertising price. When I mentioned it to the cashier, she informed the assistant manager. The assistant manger went over to the box with the sign that read 2/$3.00 and said the sign was accidentally placed on that box. When I asked for the manager, he explained that the label was placed on the box of those waters to advertise a smaller size water that was on the shelf. I explained to the manager that this is misleading and false advertisement. He was adamant that this is something they do often. I decided to try a new place, and since I happened to be near this Keyfood and the end of my day, decided to check it out. I don't know if it the stores in the city, or just that this keyfood just don't have enough space, it wasn't the most convienice shopping experince. The passages are too narrow, and I felt I came on the opening day, since on every passage, there was a person organizing the staff. The place was super busy, so maybe I just happened to pick the wrong day. I saw much better Keyfood stores. read more
