Belmont is such a wonderful neighborhood, with so many delicious & authentic Italian goods. I am very content to have found this hidden gem. My boyfriend and I originally visited the neighborhood, Belmont, to get some delicious ravioli from Borgatti's. While waiting on the line at Borgatti's, we met a very sweet Italian couple from Westchester who told us about Teitel. They recommended us to go shop there as it is cheaper, and carried a lot of authentic & delicious goods from Italy (that we might need for the ravioli & linguine we bought from Borgatti's). They kindly waited for us, and took us there. Bless these sweet people! The shop is very small, and there was a long line. However, it was worth every minute of the wait. Love the fact that Teltel sold speciality Italian imported delicacies. They sold gourmet cheeses & cured meats, olive oils, pastas, baking products, canned items, dried fruits, spices, and many more. I highly recommend their proscuitto, pesto sauce, and their large canister of Edda extra virgin olive oil. The items were well priced, and of great quality! I made such a delicious meal with these items, along with the linguine we bought from Borgatti's! Teltel is truly a gem, and I wish I lived close by! Great thing is that they accept credit card. We stopped in here during Ferragosto (look it up and go next year, it is SO much better than San Gennaro). Instead of buying a meal, my sister, her boyfriend and I decided to buy individual ingredients. From Teitel Brothers we bought prosciutto and fresh mozzarella. Just thinking about the proscuitto makes me weak in the knees. The mozzarella was hella delectable too, not dry, made that morning fresh, and cold. Bellissima! Teitel would warrant five stars from me on their prosciutto alone, but it was so packed in their little shop! From what I've been told from regulars it is always packed, not just on Ferragosto. If they could remedy this I would make the trip out to the Bronx more often for some of this perfectly salted prosciutto. Buy it. Do it. Now!! read more

Teitel Brothers is great place to get Italian cheese, meat, pasta, oil, etc (basically, whatever you want to cook good Italian food at home, you can find here). The staff is friendly, and there's a real old-school atmosphere here. So it's always a fun place to visit. But their prices are a bit high - as are most stores on Arthur Avenue. Many of the merchants here just seem to act like their shopping strip is a bigger tourist attraction than it is. But they're remaining in business. And overall, Tietel Brothers has been running a great business, for many decades! read more

Oh how I'd love to write a fake review and tell you not to go to Teitel Brothers if only to make my frequent visits easier! This place is an absolute madhouse, no matter the day or the hour. Lines are frequently held at bay by a doorman facilitating crowd control, but once you finally get in, the atmosphere is still incredibly chaotic. Where do I stand to be served? Who is next on line? There's just a mob of people, so it's best if you aren't shy. This place typically has the best prices on all of your staples - olives, nuts, olive oil, flour, coffee, parmesan, sliced meats, etc. The quality is very high, and the ingredients are always extremely fresh. There is such a plethora of Italian ingredients that you can really find just about everything you need (except fresh meat and fish - plenty of other Arthur Avenue shops for that) right here. I only give it four stars because of the sometimes maddening lack of a system, but the wait is always well worth it. Somehow, though, I always end up walking out with more than I intended to buy - they are very persuasive, so don't go when you are hungry or you might walk out with far more than you bargained for! read more

We have always shopped there and everything has always been delicious. Because of the virus we have been staying close to home but miss our tomatoes, cheeses and prosciutto so my husband as always came up with a brilliant idea - he said Teitel delivers why not see what they can do. Sure enough I was lucky to speak to a gentleman named Victor who was ever so helpful and nice ! And the next morning I had 4 boxes of tomatoes and a bunch of other stuff early the next day. The owner greeted me outside the store. I told him I saw him on a YouTube video and he whipped me up some fresh mozz wrapped in prosciutto drizzled with an aged balsamic. Tiny Italian specialty food market on Arthur Ave in the Bronx with imported tomatoes, olive oil and pasta. They also specialize in Italian meats and had a good selection of salami, pepperoni and other cured meats. Bought some salami and it was delicious. Counter service was helpful and friendly and prices were quite reasonable. Definitely going to come back and recommended. Just note it's a tiny place and does get cramped in there. read more

We recently brought a group of Jesuit Scholastics to sample some of their food and had the BEST time (even got a signed cookbook)! Sanitary conditions are lacking. Owner doesn't wears gloves, handles cheese with bear hands, puts on dirty scale and gets very nasty if you say something. No social distancing, no limit capacity, masks? depends on the day. Their house olive oil is mislabeled. ( bottles labeled with one variety contained a different oil). Today, I bought half a pound of prosciutto, half a pound of provolone, a jar of tomato sauce and a pack of pasta and they costs me $ 55.44. The main, obviously an italian, blue eyed, was talking to somebody while calculating in the wrapping paper my bill. When I arrived home, I looked at my handwritten calculations and I could not even understand some numbers, had a total of some scribbles. It could not cost me that much. Because there is one that is 1.49, 3.49, =cost of pasta and tomato sauce. Total of these 2 would be $5.98 only. Even if the proscuitto costs $20 and the provolone $10, the total would not be $55.44. Somebody has to check on them and make them give receipts to every customer. SOmetimes , these people get away with cheating on unsuspected customers. Bad business practice. read more

While being a customer for many years my most recent visit was a total disappointment. I was encouraged and assured to purchase 2 items of a different brand from what I usually get, to only discover later, that both were expired. When I confronted them the next week they did not have the decency to extend me an apology which they owed me. Being a customer of 10+ years it was offending they were discussing to reimburse me a dollar more or less. They lost my business for sure. read more

When I heard about Arthur ave every time the bronx came up in conversation, I knew we would have to go eventually. As awesome as today was, from the zoo trip to the cheese plate, I only wish that day had come sooner. We had picked up ravioli, prosciutto, sweet sausage, and bread already, lacking only that most crucial element, cheese. We see an awning proclaiming said delicious dairy product to the world, but to our dismay, it was closing! The guy outside shouts in, "Hey, you got time to these guys some parmesan?" "Of course!" came the answer. We walk in to the final boisterous purchases of every kind of cheese, charcuterie, and delicacy one could think of. A hunk of nougat the size of my head was being wrapped up down the counter, and sausages of every kind hung from the ceiling. A cheery man behind the counter, even in the mad end-of-day rush, patiently listened to my vague requests for grated parmesan and some tasting cheese, and came up with a pound of some of the best parmesan I have ever had. The real treat, however, was his recommendation of the 'Prima Donna,' a Gouda aged like a Parmesan. It was as if a little piece of cloud from inside of the Sistine chapel ceiling was broken off and handed to you, all crumbly, smooth, nutty, and gastronomically subsuming, with a little bit of tantalizing crystallization going on as well. Really remarkable. Paired excellently with the meat plate, though all you really need is a fresh piece of bread to crumble it on. This place is bustling crazy with tons and tons of people coming in and out to grab their daily/weekly fix of cheeses and meats. We stumbled upon this place while on our first trip out to the Bronx and noticed all these people coming in and out with meat. We like meat, so it was logical that we follow the swarms. Inside, we saw all of these men slicing huge pieces of meat - all types of Italian varieties like mortadella, cappy ham, soppressata, etc. They were handing us generous samples of the meats, so we decided to pick up a bit of the mortadella (sort of like bologna?) and a fattier type that (we think?) is called cappicola. Tasty. I sort of wish that they were more patient in telling us what types of meats these all were, the levels of saltiness/sweetness, etc., but I guess it's hard for them since they have a lot of people waiting to buy. We were wavering when deciding which ones to buy when the guy who was servicing us just flat out said, "come on, guys, make a decision." Here's the simple deal with Teitel Brothers; when it comes to their food quality and experience in their shop, no off days exist!!! They carry the best prosciutto made in Italy, along with parmesan, soppressata, etc. it's always a fun experience, including trying and buying something that you didn't go in there for. Sadly ... gotta give this crappy rating. Have been ordering from them for a couple of years with good luck. Just rec'd 4 gallons of oil from them. Two of the containers were so bashed they couldn't stand up and two are rocky (but standing) and leaking. Bottoms of cans are rusted and when I called customer service (shipping) they blew me off and said that as long as the cans are wrapped in plastic the oil is fine. DONE... the packing has always been underwhelming and iffy (not enough packing paper) and trying to blame UPS is unfair as the box was completely in tact when it arrived. read more

Arthur Avenue is a wonderful place that only for shopping but also eating. Anytime I make it down I definitely make sure I stop at Teitel Brothers. I go there for prosciutto the Parma assorted cheeses fresh mozzarella and honestly anything Italian their prices are amazing and I have never had prosciutto as good as theirs except in Italy and that says a lot.
