My friend and I had dinner here while we were staying in Neosho, and we really enjoyed our meal!…read moreThe restaurant (which was a former service station and then a fried-chicken place) is, quite literally, built into the side of a cliff. The entire back wall of the dining room is the cliff face. The front of the room is almost completely all windows, to have a view of the surrounding area. It was built in the (1940s?) and has been well-maintained. The menu is surprisingly eclectic, offering dishes that are obviously local favorites in a casual atmosphere. We shared an order of hand-breaded onion rings (which came as a side for my dinner, but was plentiful enough for two), and they were the BEST onion rings we'd ever tasted! My friend described them as highly addictive, in the nicest possible way. They were light and crispy without being greasy, and the seasoning perfectly complemented the onion itself. My friend preferred ranch dressing for a dipping sauce, but I strongly recommend the Cliff Sauce, which is mildly spicy. I had the meatloaf and green beans, and both were marvelous. The meatloaf was tender and juicy and an ample portion size, and the green beans were prepared with onion and chunks of bacon. Yummy! I paired it with a bottle of Blue Moon beer, which was a great choice. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and said it was perfectly prepared and extremely delicious. Our servers were Kenley and Colby, and they were delightful. They helped guide us through the menu and offered recommendations when we had questions about certain items. They were friendly and efficient, and we did not have to wait long at all to order or to receive our food. We did encounter two small issues: we had called the restaurant directly to make a reservation, but when we arrived, they did not have our reservation in the system. Thankfully, there was a table available, and we were able to be seated immediately, even at 7:00 pm on a Friday night. Thank you for that! The second issue, which is completely understandable given the cliff face being part of the building, was that both of us experienced nasal congestion by the end of our meal. (We are both allergic to mold and weren't thinking about the likelihood of mild dampness from the cliff face.) We recommend that anyone with sinus issues pre-medicate with antihistamines or decongestants before arriving at the restaurant. We were fine after taking our over-the-counter meds. We truly enjoyed our time at The Undercliff and will certainly return on our next trip to the area! Again, thank you for a marvelous meal in an extremely unique setting. We appreciate you!

Super-cool building and a carefully thought-out and unique menu. My girlfriend is a big…read morearchitecture nerd and was enamored with its design and layout. And that's where the compliments end. We got there last Friday night around 6:30. Restaurant was ~30% full with one waitress working. Her demeanor was apathetic and she was rocking a mean Gen Z stare the entire time she interacted with us. She managed to get our order (two burgers, one order of fries and one order of cole slaw) switched with another table's order. She seemed wholly indifferent and offered little apology as we waited upward of an hour for our actual order. No manager visited our table during that hour and nothing was comped on our bill. My girlfriend's much-awaited burger was unconscionably overcooked. When I asked for silverware, the waitress told us they "(didn't) have any silverware and that it would be a few minutes before it (was) available." The real punchline arrived when our waitress then had the nerve to try to make small talk as she handed us the bill--which was apparently the only idea she retained about waitressing. (This feigned small talk was efforted with the same disaffected monotone delivery she invoked during her meager apology about our wait.) I'm still flummoxed as to how a restaurant which obviously had this much care and effort placed into its ambiance and menu could fail so miserably from an operational standpoint. It's almost as though someone very talented started it and then left their alcoholic cousin to run it. Disappointing, even for southern Missouri.

My wife had the avocado toast. She said it was really good. Service was great and it's a neat atmosphere. It was a little loud because it's so busy. So if you want quiet, this isn't your place. My only complaint other than the over cooked eggs is the price. First, the menu prices are not updated. My meal said it was $19.00. In reality, it was $22.00. So it's pricy. Not really worth it for an every week place to eat in my opinion. I will probably only eat here on special occasions in the future. We spent just under $50.00 without tip. We had water to drink and I had a coffee. There are plenty of other places in Joplin with food priced more reasonably and that is just as good. It's definitely worth trying, just know it's pricy.
