My friend and I had dinner here while we were staying in Neosho, and we really enjoyed our meal! The restaurant (which was a former service station and then a fried-chicken place) is, quite literally, built into the side of a cliff. The entire back wall of the dining room is the cliff face. The front of the room is almost completely all windows, to have a view of the surrounding area. It was built in the (1940s?) and has been well-maintained. The menu is surprisingly eclectic, offering dishes that are obviously local favorites in a casual atmosphere. We shared an order of hand-breaded onion rings (which came as a side for my dinner, but was plentiful enough for two), and they were the BEST onion rings we'd ever tasted! My friend described them as highly addictive, in the nicest possible way. They were light and crispy without being greasy, and the seasoning perfectly complemented the onion itself. My friend preferred ranch dressing for a dipping sauce, but I strongly recommend the Cliff Sauce, which is mildly spicy. I had the meatloaf and green beans, and both were marvelous. The meatloaf was tender and juicy and an ample portion size, and the green beans were prepared with onion and chunks of bacon. Yummy! I paired it with a bottle of Blue Moon beer, which was a great choice. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and said it was perfectly prepared and extremely delicious. Our servers were Kenley and Colby, and they were delightful. They helped guide us through the menu and offered recommendations when we had questions about certain items. They were friendly and efficient, and we did not have to wait long at all to order or to receive our food. We did encounter two small issues: we had called the restaurant directly to make a reservation, but when we arrived, they did not have our reservation in the system. Thankfully, there was a table available, and we were able to be seated immediately, even at 7:00 pm on a Friday night. Thank you for that! The second issue, which is completely understandable given the cliff face being part of the building, was that both of us experienced nasal congestion by the end of our meal. (We are both allergic to mold and weren't thinking about the likelihood of mild dampness from the cliff face.) We recommend that anyone with sinus issues pre-medicate with antihistamines or decongestants before arriving at the restaurant. We were fine after taking our over-the-counter meds. We truly enjoyed our time at The Undercliff and will certainly return on our next trip to the area! Again, thank you for a marvelous meal in an extremely unique setting. We appreciate you! read more

just ok.felt it was a little overpriced. lunch portion was small and not very appealing. fried chicken was a small piece and a little tough and dry. bread was burnt around the edge and had an odd taste. mashed potatoes and gravy ok, had a good flavor. The evening meals are pricier and might be better. I hate to leave a not so good review, and maybe it was just an off day for the restaurant but im being honest. we do eat out a lot, so we know good food. Sadly we didn't get to eat here. We made a road trip from Fayetteville to check out this as a lunch spot specially because it said to have a pet friendly patio. Traveling through Joplin, needing a place to meet up with my two sisters for lunch. With the help from Yelp... the Undercliff Grill Popped up. I remembered, it had been a year that we'd been there. In the middle of nowhere..... wasn't sure it would still be open after COVID...... so glad it was. We got there as they opened @ 11:00. As we waited, a train came by... very cool. We recently ate here as a party of six. It was really pretty good. Their spinach dip is . Way better than Applebees or any of those places. Everyone had a burger of some sort in our group. Service was very good and food was tasty. Probably not the best I've ever had but it was good. The atmosphere is really neat. I was surprised how small it is. Not a very big place. I wanted to give this more, its been recently renovated and looks great, its clearly popular with weekend bikers who packed the place and were everywhere outside. We really had high hope but the food was just ok, not great, service was poor, and it took over an hour for them to bring us our lunch after we waited 40 minutes to be seated. Watching the staff it seems they just are not all that organized yet. They seem to have great software on their pads to take your order and get it right back to the kitchen​ so I really don't get what took so long. Several times I thought​​h about getting up to leave but after waiting so long we had already invest a lot​ of time waiting. We ordered burgers​, with fires, one of the four of us had a basic side salad and my wife and I ordered the nachos. Nothing fancy, nothing that should have taken an hour to prepare. It took about 20 minutes before we were served our soft drinks and where most places would have offered a refill sometime near the bottom third of a drink they never came back. We had to ask for a refill when we wanted it. All this would have been accusable but the people at the table behind us, who came in after us was served twice as fast. That tells me they are still not very organized. The food was just ok. The house-made​ red chips in the nachos were thin and crisp, they were the best part of the meal. The meat on the nachos was tasteless and seemed to have no seasoning, it seemed to just be ground beef. The cheese sauce was fine, mild which some will like, It lacked tomatoes​s or jalapenos​. So it was really just good chips, cheese sauce and hamburger. Maybe they should have​ charged about $4 bucks for that, not twice that. Yes,​ the Undercliff is charming, maybe the bar is good. But the wait time, then the stalling after orders were placed and unattentive​ service with mediocre food was just a general​​ disappointment​ to me. We will give it a second chance someday because they have so recently reopened and I'll allow that maybe they really were not ready to be open yet. read more

The food was really good. We ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was big enough to share. They charge you $2 for an extra plate which would be fine if that actually split the meal & put it on a plate! Instead, the literally just hand you a plate...most places when sharing a meal, will at least split the food & sometimes give you extra food for a small charge. Handing you a plate to do the rest yourself and charging $2 doesn't seem right. read more

Had a very tasty lunch here with my 89 year old mom! She ordered a Reuben and I had The Cliff, both with fries. Delicious! Mom said she thought they were the best French fries she'd ever had. One server even brought us a little sample of their onion rings and they're the skinnier crunchy kind. Yummy!!! We had cheesecake for dessert and that was tasty, too. This restaurant has a fun, unique, and casual atmosphere. The servers were so friendly and accommodating. Great attitude! We enjoyed our experience. My only suggestion...if you don't want a pickle spear garnish, let them know. I'm sure they would leave it off. A few of us decided on a long road trip on the bikes, and end up at Undercliff. We had arrived about 12pm, and man did we beat the rush; it got super busy 20 minutes later. I had heard about this place for years, but never went, so I was excited to try it. I'm not sure it's really Undercliff, it's more like "under shelf." It is not a big place at all; maybe 15, or so tables, and they are really close, as in when I got up to leave I almost knocked over the waitress' serving platter beside me. The back of the building is natural rock from the cliff it's under, but I'd say it only goes back 15 or 20 feet. The menu was pretty diverse, I thought it was a little ridiculous that a Caesar Salad was as much as the meatloaf platter that came with 2 sides.. I was also a bit disappointed that the grilled chicken on my salad was maybe 3oz worth for $11.. Not a lot of beers on tap either, a couple local crafts, and then the usual Bud, Miller. Our server was nice, but the service and food delivery time were super slow. I'm glad I checked it out, and if you're in the area you should too, but by all means don't drive more than 15 miles out of your way. read more

What a unique restaurant, built into a cliff and located between Joplin and Neosho! The Undercliff Restaurant is a piece of Tipton Ford, Missouri history beginning in 1928 when railroad transportation was king. The railroad is still active today. Undercliff is newly renovated, yet It recalls a simpler bygone era. Undercliff was originally built as a general store that also served food. On this second visit to Undercliff I enjoyed the Cliff breakfast sandwich of buttermilk biscuit, egg, cheese and bacon, $3.99. I also ordered a side of hash brown potatoes that were disappointing. While the potatoes were perfectly cooked, they had an odd flavor. Could it be the oil? I would not order again. Our table enjoyed the Bloody Marys, and priced at $4, they are very reasonable, each freshly made and not from a mix! Not the best I ever had but definitely good. My sister's 3 egg omelette was soft and filled with fresh veggies and bacon. A favorite of bikers, locals and tourists alike.
