Came with work people for a holiday/going away party for someone on our team. I've driven past this place numerous times but first time coming in. There was plenty of parking in the attached lot and when you first walk in, it's very dark so it takes a minute for your eyes to adjust. I was met with a sign that said "seat yourself" at the same time as a young man asking me how many. I explained that there would be several of us and he said let me go get something set up. After a few minutes he came back and just then everyone else in our group arrived. He led us back into the dining area, which was all decorated for Christmas with lights and decorations. It's a very small dining area with tables that fit four arranged next to tables that seat two and he had set up two different places for our group to sit. One of our group who had been there plenty and actually knows the son of the owners talked to the young man and we ultimately ended up outside on one of the two patios they have. Fortunately the weather was perfect! It took several minutes and finally our friend went back inside to make sure someone knew we were outside. The manager came out with a couple of people and from then on, we had service. Chips and salsa were served along with ordered drinks. The menu says they can't do separate checks but when we ask the server, she said she could make it happen (thank you Perla!). I ordered the Machaca Plate which comes with some of the best, tender, flavorful machaca I've had! Rice and beans round out the plate along with a large flour tortilla. I loved their rice, which isn't like the traditional red rice so many other places serve, theirs is more yellowish and the flavor is perfect. And their beans were also so good, with lots of melty cheese on top. Overall a great lunch and now I can't wait to go back! Just a periodic update since I reviewed Tee Pee in 2018. The food is still GREAT. One thing that is not commonly known is that they serve excellent cheeseburgers and an American style breakfast that will make you happy! When it comes to service there is an exemplary waitress name Kirstin who works primarily on the patio(s). She has been absolutely stellar in serving my friend and I on weeknights this past few months. That is not to mention standouts Paloma (on weekends) and Nicole (behind the bar). Tee Pee is the kind of place you always want to go [where everybody knows your name...]. GREAT food and beverage and amazing service. This was as old school of a restaurant as you can think or imagine. And I mean that in the best way possible. When you walk into a place like this, you just know the food has to be good. It's sort of a hole in the wall, in a good way! We ordered drinks and tons of food, and it was super cheap and plentiful and good. The Tee Pee special is hands down the best value on the menu. You get a taco, a tostada and cheese enchilada with rice and beans. Soooooo much. I got the Coronarita. I was stunned I didn't get a frozen margarita, guess I have to specify. Still good nonetheless. I can't believe the experience I just had at this place. I ate here a few years ago and it was wonderful. I'm not sure if it's under new ownership now but it's terrible. Out of 6 people, they messed up 3 orders. That's a 50% rating of accuracy. My friend bites into something hard from her chili relleno and when she spit it out, it was the plastic piece from the top of a bread bag or a tortilla pack. The "manager" said he's sorry and it won't happen again. He said he cannot comp anyone's meals, he didn't give us any sort of discount. I will never eat here again and nobody should ever. It is not safe to eat here! God knows if they have rats and bugs also since they allow plastic pieces in your food. Ridiculous!!!! read more

Surprisingly Tee Pee didn't have a long wait line this time and we got seated soon after we arrived. I've been coming to this restaurant every time I am in Phoenix, but it's been several years since my last visit. I ordered a combination plate of crispy shredded beef taco and green corn tamale. I also ordered a small cheese crisp from the children's menu. The refried beans were creamy and not overly salted, as is common with refried beans. The tamale and taco were delicious as was the cheese crisp. The food hit the spot on all counts. Unfortunately, tonight Tee Pee was understaffed and the wait to place our order exceeded 20 minutes. We were at the point of leaving when finally a waitress came by with tortilla chips and salsa. The waiter followed to take our order. He was rushed and brusque, which didn't help things. I noticed the telltale expressions of impatience on the faces of customers across the way as well. They too had been waiting overly long. I don't remember this delay on any of my past visits and hope that tonight was an exception. read more

Had a great time at Tee Pee last night! We were seated in the patio which had a nice, semi-private feel and a cool breeze. Our wonderful server Kirstin recommended we try the create your own combo and I'm glad she did because we got to try a few different items, all delicious. I got the carne asada enchilada and the chicken taco, but I did envy my friend's adobo taco and will get that next time. We are also making our way through the margarita menu (we had the Skinny, the Don Julio, the Patron, and the Casasmigos--two each, we're not four margarita adventurous on a Tuesday) and want to try them all before deciding on a favorite. We make the drive to Arcadia from Mesa just for TeePee. If you want retro, this is your place. Vinyl booths, Formica tables, DeGrazia style art -- it's like you're stepping back in time--and I LOVE it! The servers are fantastic, and when they heard me make a joke about forgetting my glasses, she asked if I needed some readers. She brought me a couple of pairs to choose from! Yay! The food is traditional and delicious, and the portions are huge. There is a presidential platter, which is the dish that George Bush chose when he ate at TeePee. NOTE: There aren't any tables and chair sets, if I remember correctly. All booths. The booths in the dining room seat four, two on each side. We'd usually get a margarita and a small bite! I had heard this place had been around forever and had some notable visitors, so the history attached to it was definitely a draw. Some nights service seemed a bit slower/lacking, but never had a negative time here. Quality and value wise, everything was pretty average. I was surprised that they didn't have flan as a dessert option. They were very busy for lunch when we arrive today around 1 PM. The chile rellenos is the ultimate- I've never seen anything like it anywhere else! It's fluffy and puffy and perfect! The complimentary chips and salsa are delightful: warm chips and smoky salsa. Had lunch today. I ordered the cheese and onion enchilada with rice and beans. The rice was yesterdays rice. It was old and dry. Beans were from a packaged and mixed with water. The Enchilada's were okay but not to great and I found a wire twisty tie, the ones you find on bread packages, in one of the Enchiladas. I told the water and he took it back to the kitchen and then, nothing. No one came out to apologize. Maybe offer a discount or free dessert, (Witch I would have turned down) but nothing from anyone other then the bill. Not the servers fault but the management messed up big time. I was disappointed with my experience at TeePee tonight. The chimichanga was mushy and strictly okay. No one came by to ask if I needed more salsa (I did) and I just felt kind of ignored. Every table in the dining room was taken and the noise was ear splitting. I realize that's not the restaurant's fault but you should know it's not a good place for intimate conversations. This place was insanely packed when they opened on a weekday at 11am. It's kinda dark in the waiting area and definitely a small restaurant. They serve chips and salsa while you wait for your food, which the salsa was fantastic. A nice standard red salsa not spicy. I ordered a combo of a Mama Relleno and Taco. The taco comes crunchy which I love! The tortilla is deep fried to perfection. The machaca just had so much flavor and was so juicy. The taco was insanely good. The Mama relleno was so good and cheesy. It was a white cheese and was cooked to perfection. Not burnt, but not soggy. It came with rice and beans. Truly a Phoenix icon, Tee Pee has been around so long my parents used to come here when they were young! It's very cozy and cute inside, definitely a great place to get a drink and hang out.
