The food is not good. There are numerous restaurants walking distance to this place with better-tasting food.

Sadly Teddys is not what it used to be. I've been coming here for many years but each time I am increasingly disappointed in the food and service. Let's start with the wait staff. It must be an awful place to work because they are always unhappy and miserable looking. They stand together and talk amongst themselves loud enough that you can hear them complaining about the kitchen, management and the customers. They throw your food at you, sometimes spilling it on the table and then take your plate away before you are done. They make you feel like you are inconveniencing them by eat there. You feel rushed like they just want you to leave so they can turn the table to the next group. It seems pointless to complain to anyone because you get the same ignorant attitude from everyone there. Again, it must be a terrible place to work. The food. It seems they have decided that it's better to serve sub-par food made with sub-par ingredients for above average prices. The quality of the food is declining. For instance the kaiser buns that they serve their deli meat sandwiches on used to be a nice soft fresh bun. Now they seem like a grocery store bin bun that was proofed yesterday and left to sit out over night. They are neither fresh or soft. They deli meat seems very salty like it's some cheaper grade food service product that comes in a vac-pac. The Cesar salad used to come in a decent size bowl with a generous amount of dressing , bacon, parm and croutons. Now it seems like the lettuce gets waved by all the toppings and barely has the taste of a Cesar salad. I only received 3 croutons on my salad. It was more like eating a plate of limp lettuce. The French fries seem like they only kiss the frier for a minute and then are rushed to your plate. They are limp, under cooked, under seasoned and just plain disgusting. Once you get your food you don't see the wait staff again until they come to ask you if you want dessert before you are done your meal. Again making you feel rushed. And if you decline dessert, they drop you check and disappear. Usually standing across the restaurant staring at you, waiting for you to leave your table so they can wipe it for the next group. Needless to say I am very disappointed in the steady decline of this once iconic local deli restaurant. Maybe they should step back and re-evaluate their operation. It's shouldn't be about the quantity of people you can push through the door in an hour. It should be about the quality of the food and satisfaction of the customers. read more

Very disappointed in the food. Had a grilled cheese and it was very greasy and very under cooked.. But I certainly recommend the pie!

My Mother lives in Oshawa and within walking distance to this place so it has been due to convenience rather than choice that I have been here a couple times a year in the past 10. The service is quick (too quick to be heated naturally) and most everything i've eaten here is certainly from a can but my Mom is comfortable here and things are predictable. I would absolutely LOVE to see a Real restaurant open up close by and allow patrons to choose. There is a lot of change in the restaurant industry happening in The Shwa and I encourage people to seek those Real restaurants out. Restaurateurs who actually care about serving good and fresh food. Hoping Teddy's goes the way of the dinosaurs...most of it's customers are over 70 anyway. Oh, and the 'owner' is exceptionally rude and abrasive. Gordon Ramsay would have his work cut out for him here. AVOID!! read more

The food here is great and plentiful, unfortunately the counter staff is consistently rude. I work in an office and once a week we order out for lunch. When we choose Teddy's (which is rarely because of the hassle) you would think that asking for separate orders was akin to baby murder. We get lots of heavy sighing when we phone in the order. My boss once had the audacity to call back to tack on one more order and the girl barked "You already called here once!". Today when arriving at the counter my coworker said she would pay for two orders on her debit card. The same "lovely" lady groused that she had already put the orders through the register separately and rolled her eyes. I don't understand the attitude. We are bringing in 7 orders that you wouldn't otherwise have. It is not that much effort to make change. The misery with which this woman performs her work is depressing and infuriating. Clearly customer service is not a calling for this individual. read more

Spent $30 on take out. The roast beef dip meat wash dry and with huge chunks. They changed the french fries and were dried out and tasted bad. Normally it is ok quality but today it was crap read more

As an American, this was a great find!! A true diner experience! May have to wait for a few minutes if it is lunch or dinner time, but it is so worth it! Waitresses were so friendly and helpful--even saved us money by rearranging our selections into a dinner special..Everything is delicious!! Pies are the best! For a unique, neighborhood experience,Teddy's wins ! read more

Been going for years, lots of food as always, service always good. Most feel rushed, quality of food in steady decline despite mammoth portions read more

Amazing food, amazing service, great prices AND we took home the whole strawberry and coconut pies! Absolutely Delicious!

Underwhelming food, disgusting service. My parents and I stopped in here today for lunch while on a trip to Oshawa. We are from the London, On area and are very unfamiliar with the Oshawa area and its restaurants. We decided to try Teddy's because it's modern and clean curb appeal. We waited roughly ten minutes to be seated which wasn't a problem other than the hostess wasn't friendly and had an attitude similar to a drill sergeant. When she brought us to our table I was shocked by her extremely rude tone of voice. Our server was not much better as she lacked any personality at all, was short, and provided us with little service throughout our meal. Since I am vegetarian I was disappointed in the menu as there were virtually no vegetarian options other than salad and grilled cheese. However, my parents were pleased with their sandwiches other than a couple minor complaints. Whether the food was good here or not, I would not go back nor would I recommend to anyone due solely to their horrible service. Not a single employee at this establishment smiled at us, greeted us, or wished us a welcome or a nice day. read more

I found a fly in my mashed potatoes, when I asked the staff about it they seemed offended that I even brought it up, the roast beef was dry and didn't smell good at all. read more

long line up to get in but staff are super nice and food good. loved the open face roast beef platter but wasnt bowled over by the pot roast - too well done. great atmosphere and a terrific value if youre in the Shwaw! read more

Great dinner when your in the mood for the basics. Always enjoyed breakfast here. Food is plentiful and staff are friendly and quick.

Line-ups outside the restaurant 24/7, service isn't wildly impressive, neither is the food in my opinion. If it's your/your friend's birthday, you have to let them know BEFORE you order a dessert. Even if it's the birthday dessert. read more

I remember Teddy's when it was alot smaller and it is as good now as it was then. Waitresses are fast and efficient. Food is amazing. It is definitely dated and could use some improvements but still a fine place none the less. read more

This is one of my favourite restaurants. Every time we go the service is fast and the food is amazing. The roast beef dinners are a favourite, tons of food, you won't leave feeling hungry. If there is a lineup it goes fast and is worth the wait. read more

Last night my family and I went to Teddy's, nice family restaurant. We have been going for approximately 20 years. Great food, great price. Last night we were celebrating my grandson's birthday so we went to Teddy's. Our experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. The hostess was not in a good mood, the server was very impatient and didn't hide that fact, our food came and she put her coat on and left. No once came to see if the food was okay, we stopped a server walking by because the ketchup was empty, there was a hair in my food. We had to ask for the bill, when I went to the cash to pay, I told the cashier about our experience and requested that my message be relayed. I have no idea if the management will hear about our experience, as there is no way to make comments on their site, I am speaking out here. We had a terrible experience and my grandson didn't feel like we had made a good choice in bringing him there. We will not be returning. read more

Well - the food & service is always great ........ up until this last visit - I was shocked. I ordered the strip loin steak, which I've done many times - I ordered it medium rare & it was not - it was medium - really close to well done - and as well - the quality was not the same - it was not a strip loin - I'm honestly not sure if it was even a sirloin - it was tough & chewy. As well it was not the usual thickness. They offered to get me a new one - I was turned off at that point & my wife had almost finished her meal. Here's the thing - They were just sold & I was wondering if this "episode" was due to new owners screwing with the perfection that has been Teddies all this time. To make things even worse - I heard a rumor that the new owners were going to change Teddies into an Italian joint. Good luck with that - if it is true - this would be the most stupid plan I've heard of EVER !! - seriously - Teddies has/had perfection - the food - service - everything. Why in the hell would ya even think to change anything ? They will be in for a shock - they will loose all the customer base - I will NOT support any change - Go open an Italian joint at another location & leave Teddies just the way it is - ANY other "plan would be a super stupid move . read more

While visiting the area some friends wanted to take us to Teddy's and raved about it being an Oshawa tradition. After the superb meal we'd had at an upscale restaurant the night before, we were a bit skeptical, but I can say now that Teddy's does deserve to remain an Oshawa tradition! Good, hearty, homestyle food, large portions, good value, and very good service. Nothing fancy, but very enjoyable. I had the veal parmigiana, which may not have passed muster in a fancy Italian restaurant, but my belly loved it, and will again tomorrow since I could only finish half of it. One of my friends had the turkey dinner with the gravy on the side and practically licked the plate clean, another friend had the steak and said it was cooked perfectly, another friend had the roast beef sandwich and managed to inhale it all before I could steal a bite! We shared a piece of coconut cream pie and loved it so much (OMG, the crust is amazing!) we bought a whole pie to take home! If you're looking for good comfort food at a good price and a relaxed atmosphere, go to Teddy's. If you're a hard core foodie looking for an adventure, you should probably skip Teddy's, and that's okay, Teddy's has lot's of fans who will happily take your table. read more

Went there with my wife tonight. Because of past experience with the place, we asked if the mushrooms for the steak was fresh or canned. We were assured that they were fresh mushrooms. What we got was slimy flavorless sn-t on top of the steak. When I told the waitress it was canned she went back to the kitchen and returned saying those thin slices of slime where fresh mushrooms but they blanched them before frying. It is bad enough to get canned when you try to make sure they are fresh. But I HATE being lied to. I give two stars for service and nothing for the food. read more

I have been coming here my entire life, it's as wholesome as they come. I must say, if you order the wrong thing, it may not satisfy you in flavour. Chicken or veal parm is spectacular. Garden of Eden salad, fantastic. Roast beef, delish. Any specials are usually great. These are all the things that I have been ordering and never have been disappointed. I did order the Poor Boy sandwich one time and was not very pleased. The staff is wonderful and mature, and the atmosphere is lovely. I would recommend any day of the week. Like some reviews say, the line gets pretty big around lunch/dinner times but you can tell why when you taste the food! read more

Good enough place, ALWAYS busy. Really, you should only go if you're gonna eat deli foods, like a sandwich, maybe some soup, etc. Never been disappointed but never been overly impressed. Still, worth a try. read more

I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to any vegetarians or vegans. The menu has nothing but meat & wheat. The food wasn't appealing to me. The customer service was terrible & the waitress I had was very rude & rushed me to order. Totally unprofessional. It just might have been that one waitress but the food still kind of sucked read more

Horrible service and staff. I ordered a meal for take out, the soup container lid was not put on properly and spilt all over the paper bag, if that wasn't bad enough I open the meal container to find a corned beef sandwich, rather than the prime rib dinner I had ordered. When I called the store to explain the situation was treated rude, put on hold for 5 minutes, then another employee answered the phone and said "You aren't getting anything!" I could not believe what I was hearing. They give me the wrong order, I offered to bring the sandwich back they gave me and was treated like garbage. If you do not believe me try calling this place and tell them you got the wrong order and I guarantee you will get the same treatment. This place is disgusting, and they have no concern for customers whatsoever, and when I asked for a manager I was told there was "no one there and the owner said he will not do anything" and then hung up on. I recorded this and will be putting it on you tube. Please call these ignorant people with this same complaint and you will see how they act if anyone has any doubt what I am saying, I have no idea how a place like this gets business how they treat customers, it is sad and scary. If you eat here expect to be treated like garbage and harassed if anything is wrong with your meal. There number is 905-579-5529. Call and tell them you got a corned beef sandwich, rather than the prime rib dinner you ordered through take out, and that you would simply like to return the wrong order with your receipt (as I said) simply to get the order you paid for and ordered, and watch what happens. Record how they act and post it to Youtube as people need to know the type of arrogant, rude, disturbing people that run this place that should not have a license to serve food. Please take this seriously, as how would you feel if this happened to you, and will if they mess your order up. read more

The plates can be big, enough for two-three meals for me, at times. Great sandwiches, pickles. The cheddar is pre-cut individual squares like from the grocery store (for a deli restaurant??) They cut their steak down to another cut, a smaller amount, and a horrible result. I told a waitress they were horrible, and she said, "I know". The veal, chicken parmigiana and fish dinner is from formed/frozen; when you ask for them without breading for dietary reasons, they say, "Sorry, that's the only way they come", so you darn well know they're from frozen. The owner will outright lie; and when confronted, he is actually very mean. He told me off, telling me I complain so much. Its hard for a restaurant to be consistent, when we were buying up to 50 meals a month thru takeout, for three years! Yes, I complain when they screw up! Your steak was almost $30. You burnt it! You are right, I'll complain. Would you like receiving them pre-burnt for your restaurant's use?? We are disabled. My husband is a 25 yr. Vet. I don't complain for free food, nor do I have to. I was a chef. I only want honesty, quality, and freshness for health reasons. Is that too much to ask? Oh, one more thing. Order spaghetti with an extra container of spaghetti sauce. There is never enough to cover. And, to get parmesan cheese, you have to ask for take out. Double check all your takeout. The kitchen makes mistakes often, out of five or six hundred meals a year. read more
