I came to this place with my family on a Sunday afternoon. I wanted to try this place out, because I never got to eat at thier old location on Chicago Avenue, that I always wanted to try. The place had a nice crowd, so I thought it was a good sign. We started with elote for an appetizer which was actually tasty with the right amount of tajín so it wasn't overbearing. The food however was another story. I got the torta birria with rice and beans. The birria itself was standard, not too seasoned. The consommé had no flavor at all, not even a little! It was disappointing. The beans were probably the best part of the meal. Our server was very friendly, considering I had a screaming hungry child. I would like to come back and give this place another chance but I will definitely will be trying something else.
Came for a birthday party with a large party of 20. They did a great job serving our group! I had the steak torta dinner and was full off half the sandwhich. Many others in our group had tacos and the steak dish. Our group also had a variety of drinks and all agreed they were strong. If in the area, I would suggest Tecalitlan for a group lunch or dinner.
This was the absolute worse Mexican food I've ever tasted. I'm still having acid reflux from this food. They seemed to cook the food in less than 5 minutes. The sauces had no flavor and the guacamole was awful. We're very disappointed in the food and the amount of money spent.
Stumbled upon this spot while searching for some good Mexican food, and overall had a solid experience. We started off with a round of drinks -- they were good, nothing particularly memorable, but hit the spot. For appetizers, we tried the quesabirria crunch, which ended up being my favorite of the night -- super crunchy, flavorful, and definitely worth ordering again. We also had the bacon-wrapped hot dog, which was just okay and didn't really stand out. For mains, we shared the enchiladas with half chicken and half pork -- great for splitting between two people and surprisingly tasty. The flavors were well-balanced and satisfying. Service was friendly and efficient throughout the night.
This place is in the NEW CITY complex so it was the perfect pre-movie meal spot. The food came out fast so if you only have 30-45 minutes before your show, this is a solid option. The pork belly tacos were crisp and flavorful; the perfect complement to my mango margarita lol. I'll definitely be back!
Updating my review since we came back with a large group of 14 (including a few kids) and they were so accommodating per usual. This time I got to try their carne asada dinner and this was such a good pick! The steak was cooked perfectly and tender and all of the sides included were great. Probably one of my fav items to get in the city!
We like coming here to grab a quick meal before catching a movie at AMC new city. The foot is seriously very solid. We get the steak nachos every single time bc they are fire, our absolute favorite. We've tried most things here and they're all great: tacos, enchiladas, tortas, tostadas, fajitas, all have been delicious. Service is just aight, sometimes they're slower than I'd like them to be, but that's okay. Oddly, the margaritas here are not great. They def use a margarita mix, which I don't usually judge, but you can't call yourself a margarita house and use a mix out of a bottle. That's okay, we still go to get their fire nachos there's a big parking lot for new city and you can get your ticket validated.
Wow.... All I can say is Wow. The mole sauce enchiladas are out of this world. It's hit or miss with mole sauce... some are too sweet and some are too bitter... this sauce... takes me home... it is SUPERBLY DELICIOUS and just right on flavor... you can't even leave the extra sauce on the plate. The side of rice was good and only came with peas. The refried beans are really re-fried... you can see it and taste it.... Yum yum yum. My wife ordered the steak and chicken fajitas... sizzling hot and wonderful. The tortillas are authentic and side of guacamole is perfect for topping your soft taco creation. Hint: ask for some red salsa and some green salsa on the side. You won't regret it. Our service: awesome! He was super helpful and funny .. Gave awesome recommendations. This place is great for lunch. It's not crowded and much quieter than probably in the evenings. We loved it all!!!!!!!!
I love the drinks at this spot - especially the pepino margarita! This time around we also tried the nachos, which were tasty. I'll have to come back and try more food! Love the music and patio area too.
We had a bit of a challenge finding this restaurant because it's actually located in a courtyard of a shopping center-like structure. A big plus of the location is that it provides validated parking in a garage. The restaurant is bright, cheerful, modern, clean and has a great vibe. There is outdoor seating but we opted to eat indoors. The food was very good. My husband had a steak burrito chock full of delicious, tender steak. I opted for the Quesabirria tacos. O M G - these are the bomb. Taco shells filled with cheese and tender, flavorful brisket are then fried until shells are super crispy. So so good. The dish came with meat broth for dipping. These tacos are my new obsession. Guacamole, salsa and the pitcher of frozen margaritas were also delicious. Even though we were stuffed, we split a coconut flan which was big enough for sharing and did not disappoint --it was with every calorie. I highly recommend this eatery which is now my #1 choice for Mexican food in Chicago. Yum!
Great place to stop after a movie in the mall complex. The guac could have been seasoned a little more but the pork belly tacos were tender and flavorful! Will be coming back the next time I'm in the area.

This place is definitely high on my list. We ordered beef and chicken enchiladas with red sauce as well as two steak tacos with rice and beans. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but the rice, beans, tacos, and enchiladas were all well-seasoned. Some places have bland rice and beans, and I always wonder, "What's the point?" But here, everything was flavorful. Our server checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stop in again and maybe even try one of their margaritas!

Haven't visited Tecalitlan in years, and this visit did NOT disappoint! The new space is open, bright, and welcoming. While it has a different vibe than the original location, that is by no means a bad thing. There is plenty of indoor table seating alongside a nice outdoor patio. Parking is super convenient too--it's only $2 when you validate at the restaurant! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our server had his hands full since there appeared to be only one other server on duty, but that didn't stop him from delivering great service. A couple of small condiments were initially forgotten, but he brought them out immediately once we asked. Most importantly, the food was hot, delicious, and tasted just like the good old days! The chips trio appetizer is a incredible value (especially with today's grocery prices), and the refried beans were perfectly flavorful, just as I remembered. Give them a try next time you need an authentic Mexican food fix! read more

I am so glad I got a chance to stop by; it's been on my list for a while. I know there's different locations but I did enjoy the Lakeview/North location. Great customer service; the food was delicious and it was a really nice day on their patio. This location is part of an out outdoor mall. So you can get a few things and then come here to eat. I got two tacos and a tostada, they eliminate was delicious. I definitely have to check out the other locations. read more
Wow what an amazing authentic restaurant. The gauc was simply perfect with the tortillas chips. I had the 3 tacos and they were amazing. So tasty pulled pork. My son enjoyed the enchilada with mole. The server was very pleasant and brought us extra tortillas to with the gauc and salsa. The ambiance has a great Mexican atmosphere. read more

If you're in the area and craving Mexican food (or a margarita as my husband was), this is a solid, no frills spot to try. Food is solid but nothing that stood out / write home about / I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. Large open space with some colorful wall murals and good service. I was most excited to try the spiked horchata (server recommended with whiskey instead of tequila) and it didn't disappoint although a little sweet as expected. Tacos were fine - the Al pastor was probably the best, the birria was actually pretty dry and the chorizo wasn't very flavorful. The salsas they brought out weren't spicy at all much to our disappointment. Chips and salsa were fine, salsa there was chunky but not very flavorful. There are better Mexican spots in the city but if you happen to be in the area and craving it, it's a solid option. read more

I had dinner at Tecalitlan in late September 2023. The restaurant has an awesome ambiance and a great location. It's very spacious and clean. They have a really nice patio area as well. Tecalitlan is perfect for large groups of people to dine. The service was terrible. The waiter was inattentive and unhelpful. The food took a long time to be prepared, even though the restaurant was not crowed. I felt that we were rushed to eat and leave around 8:15 PM. They didn't close until 9. The food was just okay. I've had similar quality tacos at smaller, local restaurants for half the price. The tacos were very dry and unflavored. I ordered 4 tacos which came to around 20 dollars plus tax and gratuity. There were no complimentary baskets of chips and some salsa like other restaurants have. read more

Pretty decent Mexican food! They have quite an extensive menu! Their we code online menu is so hard to view on a phone. Definitely ask for a physical menu. Their pico de gallo is DELISH!! We loved it. I'd recommend the trip appetizer. Comes with guacamole, pico, chips and other sauces. I ordered a carne asada burrito. It was massive. Had also fed me the next day for lunch AND dinner. My husband ordered the cod fish tacos. He didn't love it , but said it was just fine. I ordered a chicken tostada for my daughter. They do have a kids menu but seems a little high priced so I opted for a $7 tostada that I knew my daughter would eat. The service was ok. Our server was nice and admittedly said he wasn't too familiar with their "weekend menu" we did have to flag him down for water a couple times. I liked the indoor decor and because it's November-their massive Xmas tree is up!! We do love that this is in new city and parking is easy. With the restaurant validation, it's $2 for parking. We ordered drinks too. My husband ordered a Cadillac Margaritas and I got a sangria. They were standard. read more

Came here Wednesday evening . Heads up park on the side street easier to find the place. Ordered 1 taco dinner, and another one 3 tacos with just a side or rice.The tacos were okay, for the price it just isn't worth it. I was kind of surprised how small a side order of rice was. I guess I am just used to being spoiled at other places I don't know. While the sides might have been smaller they did load the tacos with the meat. The flavor on the tacos was kind of bland so I kept adding salsa to give me some flavor. Overall I was just hungry and needed a place for a quick bite to eat after my flight. Service was good though and our waitress was attentive. read more

I mean! For me it's about the Margs and I have to say. What pulled me in was hibiscus/jamaica HOWEVER!! You need to be drinking the Tamarindo Marg! I like spicy and Jose offered to add jalapeños to the tam marg and that hit The Elote is bomb! Like we used to make at home, except just ask for extra chili! Carne Asada tacos! Tasty! Tortillas are bomb and fresh as well. May be bought but has to be local. Ate at the bar and although Jose is busy he is awesome! And good vibes! read more
The food at Tecalitlan is very good, but it is nothing special. You definitely will not be disappointed but it is just missing something to get it over the edge. Fortunately, it comes out incredibly quickly. It was maybe 5 minutes from order to getting my food. Once you get your food, the staff will mostly leave you alone, which is great for enjoying the meal, but you may have to flag someone to pay and leave. read more

My friend and I came on a Thursday and there was live music on the plaza. It made for a busy evening but we were able to get seats inside without a problem at 7 pm. There was a longer wait for patio seating given the music and nice weather. The restaurant extends further back and we were seated away from the noise. Menus are available via QR codes on the table. The waitress came to take our drink order and gave helpful recommendations for the margaritas. It took a bit longer for the waitress to come by to take our dinner order. I was getting hungry so opted to get the camerones dinner on flour. My friend ordered the chicken burrito dinner. The food arrived. Unfortunately, my friend only got the burrito as the waitress misheard her. No fret, we'll move on. The shrimp tacos were good and I'm glad to have the rice and beans as the tacos alone were not filling for me that evening. The rice and beans needed something and the salsa verde did the trick. Overall, it was a good experience. The food was good. Service was kind, even though the order for my friend was put in incorrectly. read more

We have been enjoying this amazing food since my Holy Trinity High school days in the 90's!!!! Still Fire!!!! They are in a new location but the ambiance and food traveled very well! My wife were on a staycation vibe weekend. We were headed to The Ritz to check and figured we'd have dinner 1st. She said hey isn't this your Tecalitilan place!!! I got toooGEEKED!! I SWEAR? She said I think so. I said LEEEGGOOOO!!!! We pulled up and figured out how to get to it. Had a parking structure, that was cool. They could do a little better with the signage, couldn't find it at 1st. I asked a cat who was cleaning and pointed out the way!! The hospitality was great as always!! We were warmly welcomed and shown to a table. The waitress and table attendant was on it!! She greeted us and answered our questions and took our drink order. We looked up and water was on the table and our drinks were being sat down. We ordered and the food came just as fast. It was like a time machine!!! Shhheeessshhhhhh!!! Felt like Doras BACKPACK...yum yumMMM DELICIOSOOO!!! I even saw the owner and remembered him from back in the day when he was the manager for his dad!! I let him know how much we enjoyed our experience and he was appreciative of the Kudos!! I look forward to going back again, now I know where they are!! read more
