Matcha Royale - Strawberry and Taro Lover

Not a bad boba spot! Loved the matcha. I wasn't a fan of the taro. Will try other flavors and drinks soon.

This is a pretty popular boba chain from Cali, so I was excited to see Teaspoon open in Spring! I ordered the Rose Petal Oolong milk tea (I requested lactose-free milk) with 75% sugar and their unique brown sugar crystal boba option; overall, it was a decent drink, but it is on the sweeter side, and I found that the rose flavor overpowered the Oolong a bit. In addition, there was more of a watery consistency than creamy, which I didn't think would happen given how they used real milk rather than dairy-free powder, and I felt that they were a little heavy-handed with the ice, even though I requested less ice. :( Service was a bit slow the day I came (which was a Sunday afternoon), but there were only two workers and several customers coming in, so I'll give grace. They did forget to make one of my friend's drinks, though... I thought their brown sugar crystal boba was interesting, but truthfully, I prefer brown sugar boba in its original form and found that the crystal boba didn't add much. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to make the drive to Teaspoon often, but their signature fruit tea drinks do sound appetizing, so I'd be open to giving them another shot.

Came for the Soft Opening. From the moment we came in we had the best customer service from a young lady with black hair wearing a Slipknot shirt. I was impressed as I am a Slipknot Fan! And her being young with good taste in music, she gets extra points from me. She walked me through the menu and how to register for the reward points. My drink presentation was on point so I had to snag a photo. The young lady offered to take it for me since she had the best placement to get the photo. See photo included. Boba tea obviously is not cheap, but definitely worth the quality and size provided. I do wish there were smaller sizes to choose from like the sugar quality. I have to say that is a great option to determine your own sweet level for your drinks. Something for all.

    Grasshopper and Guava Sunset

Came in during the soft opening and the girls working the counter were super friendly and helpful. They walked us through the menu and gave us some recommendations as well as some samples. I got the Grasshopper which I thought was very refreshing, but my friend did not like the cucumber that was in it. Their drinks do come on the sweeter side so I definitely recommend adjusting the sugar!

    Double Matcha and Silky Strawberry
    Michelle O.

I was pretty excited to try the new boba place, especially since they were promoting their grand opening and the bogo week. A staff member recommended the double matcha (matcha latte with matcha cloud), which he made a point to say is ceremonial grade. I've noticed a variety of flavored clouds on the rise in different shops and thought it'd be a fun choice. While the staff member did mention the double matcha comes in the smaller cup than other drinks, it's not very easy to see what is the usual cup size if looking at the drinks. The matcha flavor wasn't too milky or too bitter as I chose whole milk and didn't change the default sugar levels. The Silky Strawberry is milk with strawberry marmalade and honey boba. It tastes like sweet strawberry milk with chewy boba. While I chose whole milk, it was sweeter than I expected as I forgot it was marmalade and not just cut strawberries in milk like other shops. The boba at 7pm on a Friday night was chewy, though not as soft as I've been preferring recently. The staff seemed nice and comfortable in their roles, though the cups could be wiped down more thoroughly as I had milk and strawberry stains. I was offered a generous helping of a topping to sample, which was nice. The egg pudding did look very broken, but, once he scooped it out, there were large cold chunks, The inside feels more like diy yogurt shop than cafe as the space is narrow.

This new location for The Boba Shop has had a "coming soon" sign out for some time, so when I saw…read moreit was open I looked forward to trying it. I went in on a busy Saturday noon and ordered a Boba Shop milk tea, a chicken banh mi, the Taiwanese Dry Noodles with chicken, and pork dumplings. The last three items cover the whole food menu. Not a ton of choices, but I was glad to be able to sample everything and there's not a lot of decision fatigue. The banh mi is a classic example of this Vietnamese sandwich--chicken and veggies on a very crusty French roll. On the small side but great for a $5 snack. The dumplings were nicely fried, tender, and had great flavor. The Taiwanese Dry Noodles dish was a new experience for me. The description is accurate--the pasta and chicken are served with no sauce. The flavor is cooked in, and is quite good. The dark meat chicken was tender with a lot of umami. The noodles, being dry, were just a bit sticky to take apart but not real difficult. It comes with a fried egg, and you can add a fried egg to their other versions of the dish. Putting soy sauce on this dish would make it too salty, so you should eat it as is. The Boba shop offers a wide variety of drinks--teas, coffees, and smoothies. The Boba Shop milk tea is a good tasty example of an Asian milk tea. It could be a go-to place for a coffee and tea fix. The food was served with no fish or soy sauce. I think that was intentional for the Taiwanese Dry Noodles, but I found myself missing fish sauce for the banh mi and the dumplings. I might have been able to ask for it, didn't check. The shop was quite busy when I went in. A great thing for them but it meant they were somewhat backed up, so I had a wait. It wasn't a bad wait, since the shop is cute and inviting inside--lots of nice clean tables and benches. They also have some games, so you're invited to hang out. The men's restroom was clean and ready. There were no specialized fixtures, so you do have the possibility of gender-based waiting without a real reason. All of that food cost me $25 with tip, which is a really good deal. Everything is around $5. Joyful Boba is right across the road, but has a different snack selection so both have their market. The Boba Shop is a nice addition to our neighborhood food palate.

The food was very good!…read more I was hesitant at first because some of the menu seemed to be fusion items. In a place like Houston, where you can get authentic Vietnamese food, this can be a luck draw if the fusion pays off. However, when I tried the food, it was a very flavorful and worth every cent I spent. Everything was very tasty. The wings were flavorful and crisp. It had a combination of crispy skin seasoned with a rich sauce. The meat was also moist. For a party of two, it was also very shareable because they gave six pieces -both drums and wings. I will say that you really gotta to get in there get your hands and face dirty though! (They did provide a hand wipe!) For the main dishes, the won tonic soup was very flavorful with sweet-and-sour elements with egg noodles that soaked up all this good flavor. The wontons inside were very standard. And the onion was added to provide some balance. Everything was very hardy and filling. My friend had gotten the vermicelli. Which came with crunchy egg rolls, shredded veggies, noodles, and shrimp topped with a fish sauce. It felt very light and refreshing with a balance of textures and savory elements'. Highly recommend as the number one and two selling dishes - it would just depend on if you're in a soup or dry noodle sort of mood. Service was overall fast and friendly. You have to pay by going to the counter. We had a newer waiter though, and it took him a long time to get our orders correctly and he had to get some help. Hopefully they're doing well, but overall, it's a very cute Homie little establishment. Seating fits around 30 around booths and tables.
