Did this place change owners? I used to like this place but just visited yesterday and it's gross. The popcorn chicken was soggy and when I asked for extra spicy, it was barely mild. I live a few minutes' drive from Tea Leaf, but didn't even know it existed until about a year ago when I met friends for tea and board games there one morning. I was immediately struck by how light, airy, calm and friendly it was. The staff have never been anything other than pleasant and helpful, the decor is cosy but sunny, and the food and drinks are fantastic. I go there maybe once a week now, usually when I need a change of scenery while I'm writing or researching. The menu has so many great options on and I've never had anything there that wasn't delicious...but my personal favourite is the mint lemon tea, 50% sweet and made with Assam black tea. It's refreshing in the California heat and so much healthier than reaching for another can of soft drink. They also serve boba teas, milk teas and everything else you'd expect from a good Vietnamese tea shop. As for the food, they serve banh mi, spring rolls, rice bowls and so on. They also have my great weakness: banh mi fries. Crispy, freshly cooked fries topped with banh mi picked cucumber and carrot, coriander, chilli peppers and spicy sriracha, optionally with your choice of protein - pork belly, in my case - and despite TRYING not to order it every single time...I order it, every single time. So delicious, and (like all their offerings) in a very generous portion that would be great to share with a friend. I've tried some of the other options such as their shrimp spring rolls, and nothing has ever been anything short of fresh, good value and very tasty. This is a long overdue review. It's close to my house, so it's convenient, however, I do not like going here anymore. Food and drinks are good, and the cashiers and young staff are always nice. However the owner/manager is not. She is rude. I ordered a drink online once, and accidentally pressed a topping that I did not want in my drink. Upon arrival I noticed it so I asked for it without the topping & apologized if I had ordered it with topping by mistake. The nice cashier said no problem he can remake it. The owner stepped in and belittled me and said it is not their fault, it's MY fault, & that they are a business who can't remake drinks. Lady, I apologized because I know it was my fault, I have no problem repurchasing it, money is not the issue here. Then, she told me it's too late for that take the new drink,& for that, I have not came back to this business. There is a way to talk to your customers and explain situations without being rude, mean, and condescending. She is always mean talking to the staff too, really bossy and demanding. Stopped here for some good Vietnamese food and drink just a few miles from the Gilroy Outlets. I ordered the Pork Belly Bahn Mi that was filled tender pork belly and veggies that was crunchy, fresh and appetizing. Service was excellent as well and took our order quickly. Lots of seating in the dining area with no complaints. We were able to bring in our therapy dog, Ava in the dining area which made for a comfortable and relaxing meal. read more

I don't know how this place isn't more well known... so let me help you! If I could give 10 stars I would. By FAR the Earl Grey salted cheese drink is the BEST I've had! It's actually TEA and not powder and so flavorful! In fact I normally want Jasmine milk tea but the EG is superior! The Jasmine tea is also very good and fragrant. My husband originally got the Jasmine milk tea but liked mine so much he ordered again . We split the Basil popcorn chicken at medium spice. It is spectacularly good! And fresh! And it's thigh meat not breast, huge win! Juicy, tender, lightly fried in their own homemade mixture. Let's talk about the incredible customer service too. They came to our table to see how we liked it! When my husband ordered his 2nd tea they came out and said "about 5 minutes so I can make fresh tea". Wow! Too notch customer service! Love the vibe of the place. Good chill music, can fit about 20 people inside. I seriously hope this place makes it long term because it is 5 star worthy! Pork Banh Mi was comparable to San Jose. Milk tea was okay. Good to know there is a place nearby if I'm craving Banh Mi. I would definitely recommend that here. We stopped by on a trip to Gilroy Gardens. They were out of tofu, and the only other protein I eat is shrimp, so I couldn't get the banh mi. The guy recommended the rice bowl, which I got, and wow, it was such a rip off. $17 for a big bowl of rice, with 2 slices of tomato, a few slices of cucumber, and lettuce that was going bad. Plus 5 pieces of shrimp that were overcooked, not much flavor, and a pain to peel. Super disappointing. It pains me to write a review like this for a small business but I would not recommend this place if you are not in the area already. I normally try and support small/local businesses but this is not run very well as all the prices are at least 20% more than what the signs and menu say. While they do have a disclaimer prices have increased they don't tell you how much it is until you see it ring up. Of course you can change your mind but this surprise is a little shocking when all the menus have lower prices. I'm new to Gilroy so still on a hunt for good boba. This place has very good popcorn chicken (juicy dark meat which is the best!) and their avocado smoothie is great. I'm lactose intolerant so I rarely get to enjoy smoothies but their avocado smoothies here do not bother my tummy and I don't have to sub for any alternative milk. Ordered an earl grey salted cream cheese and this is where I started to realize that their wait time is longer than I'm used to when it comes to milk tea. Updating my previous review... I think this place may be under new ownership. Previously they served one of the best tofu banh mi sandwiches I've had anywhere. On my most recent visit, my tofu banh mi was quite good, but not top notch. Now they serve it with different veggies that are not as fresh or plentiful, and more mayo than before, but it's less flavorful. Still the best sandwich I've found in Gilroy or Hollister! read more

The good: I tried the kiwi tea and matcha milk tea. I loved that the kiwi tea had bits of mint and mango chunks (I believe). I added chia seeds to it which added a nice crunch. I asked for 25% sweetness but the cashier recommended 50% because she said it'd be sour and it tasted good at 50% (though I think 25% would've been fine too). The drink was refreshing because of the fresh chunks of milk. They have both indoor and outdoor seating options. They have tons of snack options that include banh mi and popcorn chicken. The bad: I got the matcha at 25% sweetness but it tasted like 100-125% sweetness compared to other matcha milk teas I've had at boba spots. I initially ordered the black charcoal kumquat lemonade drink but they didn't have it. Music inside is a bit loud. They have storage stuff laying around in the main dining area. The shop had cute decor with teal painted walls, framed pictures, colorful couches and pillows, and plants. We asked the cashier about their popular drinks and she recommended Gilroy sunrise and classic milk tea with boba. I came by earlier today to use up a gift card that I had been given but found out I could only use it on their website so we sat down to order. My boyfriend and I ended up ordering Gilroy Sunrise and classic Assam milk tea with boba. It took quite some time for our drinks to come out, but it looked pretty busy since the staff were taking orders by phone and customers kept coming in and out. We asked about the status of our order after 15 minutes and the staff said our drinks were already done, and apologized for the delay. The milk tea wasn't bad but I felt that 75% sweetness tasted closer to 100% sweetness. I tried my boyfriend's Gilroy Sunrise and it just tasted like liquid sugar. I would say that TeaLeaf tends to run on the much sweeter side so make sure to adjust the sugar levels accordingly.
