Just recently discovered this lovely bubble tea shop in the area. Their teacup milk tea is super delicious! I also like to get their strawberry smoothie on very hot days. Y'all must be out your damn minds. I got a banh mi here a couple of days ago. It was on a Safeway style " French" hoagie roll. Definitely not like a baguette. Kinda stale chewy and hard to eat. The meat was microwaved and looked like it had been sitting out for three days. You know when it has a gross dried out look on the surface. I literally pulled out all the meat and threw it in the trash. I tried to eat just the bread and the carrots, but even the pickled carrots were bland, limp, and gross. I love coming here and then heading down to the marina to enjoy my snacks. I get the fresh spring rolls the most, but I've also gotten the bahn mi and both are delicious. We decided to satisfy our sweet tooth at Tea Cup after having lunch nearby. Located in a small strip mall right up the street from the waterfront, parking was plentiful, and the owner warmly greeted us as we walked in, and was friendly and playful in all our interactions. It had a good amount of strawberry chunks, which went well with the matcha milk part of the drink. The grilled pork banh mi was a bit disappointing. I live in Seattle, so don't make it to TeaCup as much as I would like to, but whenever we're near the airport or driving back from Portland or anywhere further south, I always make an excuse to stop by! Every time I've gotten the Ichiban (strawberry matcha latte) (less sugar with boba) and it's sooo good! You can tell that the ingredients are high quality, and I love that the strawberry puree doesn't taste artificial like some places. It also has some strawberry chunks still intact and is delicious! I've had the strawberry matcha drink at a number of places and this one is definitely high up on my list! The boba is a good texture w/ the right amount of sweetness. Grass jelly is great, too! We've also had the avocado matcha smoothie (less sugar) and it was tasty as well! The banh mi and spring rolls were tasty as well, although I would say the drinks are the highlight for me here. Best of all, the owner, Ben, is super friendly and genuinely cares about his customers. He goes out of his way to make sure you have a great experience -- I asked so many questions about all the drinks and he was patient and helpful. Sandwiches are served with pickled Carrots/Daikon, Cucumber, Cilantro, and Jalapeños on a soft fresh hero bread. I have found the grilled pork to be the tastiest. Aside from sandwiches, the restaurant offers a good selection of spring & egg rolls and a few authentic Vietnamese dishes. Ordered food and drinks to go online and it was done really quickly. Both people that were working were also very nice and friendly. We got the Vermicelli salad bowl, roasted chicken banh mi, Nanagogo and the Groot smoothies. Vermicelli bowl was good, but we really enjoyed the banh mi and would get that again. This was our second time getting drinks from here and the smoothies have been really good and not too sweet even when it's just regular sweet. All right - review time! I came in around 11:20 am when they've just opened. Made my large banh mi order for 3 grilled pork, 3 special combo, and 2 bbq pork. Also threw in a flan cake because why not - I always have room for dessert. The woman who greeted me and took my order was very friendly and polite. I believe she is the owner of the store. We struck up a conversation and she handed me a business card to place my large order ahead of time in the future if I like the food. She's a very lovely lady. The owner and another person quickly packed up my order. Then she walked out from behind the counter and personally handed me my bag of food. Made me feel like a valued customer. I raced home and unpacked everything and immediately started digging in. I tried the bbq pork banh mi first and it looks like the meat is made in house. Meat was plentiful, tender and mostly lean but with just the right amount of fat so it is not dry. The mayo and veggie are just the right amount. As for the special combo which are cold cut meat - these look to be store bought meat but still seems like quality cut. Also plentiful and fresh. The pate mix in the combo was not overly salty nor gritty either. Lastly was the grilled pork - again tender and lots of meat. I really enjoyed the yellow mayo they used. It's not overwhelming either unlike some other banh mi places where they slather mayo throughout the sandwich so you can barely taste the meat nor veggie. And traditional yellow mayo are made with the yolk so sometimes you get that eggy off flavor if it's not done right. This place does it right! Oh yes, and the flan! Just the right firm but creamy and custard like consistency! Very sweet caramel sauce. Gave the whole meal a perfect ending! Will I be back? Most definitely! Will try their drinks next time. Note: the store is tucked away in a very small plaza but has enough parking which makes it super convenient to pop in and out. It doesn't hurt that it's near the Des Moines Beach. So folks should stop by here, grab your sandwich and a drink before heading down to the water for a stroll. read more

Cute little gem in the Des Moines area! Let's be real: except for the nearby federal detention center, no one ever goes to Des Moines to hang out. I came here after a bike ride with my boyfriend and happened to try T&D Coffeehouse the day before. I can say that I much prefer TeaCup and would definitely consider coming back if I'm in the area again! They have a really nice selection of sandwiches and drinks. I got the Grilled Pork Banh Mi and Ichiban Drink (strawberry matcha latte). My sandwich was reasonably priced and was loaded with tasty filling. I think their sandwich tastes better than T&D Coffeehouse because they have better tasting bread. T&D also uses a lot of syrup for their drinks. I liked that TeaCup used real strawberry puree for my drink and it wasn't overly sweet despite the puree. The matcha flavor was not very strong and I could tell they didn't use a very high grade matcha because it was more brown in color instead of a vibrant green. However, I can overlook this detail because they are not a specialty matcha shop. The boba wasn't the best I've had, but it's much better than T&D because it actually had some flavor. Overall, both my sandwich and drink tasted good enough that I would come back to try more things. In fact, I wish I found them first, because they have better quality food and more reasonable prices compared to T&D. If you come on a warm day, I recommend getting takeout because it's quite warm inside the shop despite them running multiple fans. I like iced tea bubble teas, and there are not many flavors of these on the menu, but what I've tried so far are really good and refreshing. The Passion Love is passionfruit with lemon tea. They used real passionfruit juice (you can see the passionfruit seeds), lemon slices, and you had the choice of Jasmine green tea, green tea, or black tea. The Sweet 16 Mojito is lychee mint green tea and had mint leaves in it. They use organic tea and sugar cane. You have the option of adjusting your sugar level. They also have banh mi sandwiches, and more meat options than some other places. They have the Special, which reminds me of some of the original Vietnamese sandwiches that I used to eat, with those certain kinds of Vietnamese sandwich pork.
