We were so glad to stumble upon this boba shop just steps from the trolley that we took exploring San Diego. Their menu has a huge selection of teas, milk teas, smoothies, and other drinks, so narrowing it down to just one was definitely the hardest part. We ended up getting Mango, Taro and Ube Smoothies, and all were delicious. They were refreshing and exactly what we needed after spending a hot day walking around the city. In fact, we came back twice. It actually would've been three times if our first visit had worked out. We arrived before the posted closing time, but the employee told us they were already closed. Maybe the hours listed were incorrect, but it was a little confusing. Other than that small hiccup, we had a great experience. This place is in a plaza, so there's a big parking lot. You order at a self-service kiosk, and there are plenty of tables and seating. They also have some board games. It's a good place to sit and talk. It was $16.17 for both drinks. Strawberry Yakult (3.5/5) - I got this with less ice and 75% sweetness. It had a tangy, slightly sour flavor because of the Yakult. The strawberry flavor isn't very strong. Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie (4.5/5) - I liked this one a lot more! The yogurt flavor wasn't too strong, and the strawberry flavor was nice. We were looking for a boba place and found this on Yelp. It's located in a commercial center so parking is a bit of a challenge. There's parking but you have to walk a short distance though. This is a small tea place next to a bunch of other fast food places. This area near old town smelled like urine. That's a real turn off, but this tea place makes good drinks! When we went there, there was only one worker cashiering and making the drinks. It took a while but we were killing time while we charged our car. We got a mango yogurt drink. TeaTown is located right by the Arrive Mission Valley apartment complexes. The shared parking is a bit hit or miss here. Decent service and only one other customer here when I stopped by, so I received my drink in a timely manner. I ordered a green milk tea with boba in a cute bear bottle (only an extra 65 cents, so it was about $7 for the drink). The milk tea had a good creaminess and tea taste ratio to it. I did not enjoy the slight bitter aftertaste though, as it gives you a bit of a dry mouth and definitely makes you thirsty. The boba was on the chewier side. Although the bear bottle is very cute and I want to keep it as a reusable bottle, they gave me a defective cup, as the back of the bear bottle is all scratched up and sticky - I tried washing it multiple times too. read more

We came for their grand opening BOGO free special and service was super friendly. The discount applied to toppings too which was cool. We ordered the roasted oolong milk tea with boba, matcha green milk tea with boba, crème brûlée matcha, and chocolate cheese and Oreo. The matcha green milk tea and roasted oolong milk teas were decently strong in flavor. Although the boba had a nice soft chewy texture, the boba was lacking in flavor. Chocolate cheese & Oreo was just okay and probably not worth getting again due to the higher price. Crème brûlée matcha had so much cream and salted cheese so it's a good value and yummy... but don't get this if you're expecting strong matcha flavor. It was very faint. Today I had the strawberry yogurt smoothie and my husband had the taro smoothie. Overall the strawberry yogurt smoothie was good, but I think the flavor could be a lot stronger. It tasted a bit watered down because I think there's too much ice blended into it. Towards the end of my drink, there were large chunks of ice that weren't blended completely. I think smoothie type drinks should be smooth and the ice should be fully incorporated. Overall, a stronger yogurt taste and less ice would improve this drink. My husband said that his taro smoothie was good. The service is friendly, and there are a lot more seats inside compared to back when this location used to be Tan-cha, making it a better environment to sit and hang out if that's your thing. read more

This suite at the Shops at Arrive Mission Valley has become a revolving door. TeaTown is now the third boba tea shop to have conducted business here within the last six months or so. They are currently in a soft opening phase with a buy one, get one free promotion on all of their drinks. The inside decor remained mostly the same with a little more faux greenery added. Seating was limited to a few small tables that could hold around a dozen customers. A one-page menu sheet was available at the service counter. There were six categories of drinks along with three savory snacks. I chose a White Peach Oolong Tea with boba pearls and less ice. At the time of my visit, the BOGO free promotion was not happening yet. Instead, the boba topping was complimentary. If I had time, then I would have asked for a remake of my tea because the sweetness was off even though it was at a regular 100% level. The oolong tea flavor was not very prominent either. While the service was good and the prices were reasonable, perhaps I received a subpar brew for my drink. It's a cute little place and you can hangout and play games as well. If you check-in through Yelp, you get one free topping to go with your drink. First and last time visiting. Food was good and so was the tea but the service was non existent. I walked in with my daughters around 12:00 on a Saturday afternoon. No customers in the place and 3 workers near the back. No one greeted us, smiled, or made any move to indicate that they were even open. I started ordering at the kiosk and one lady in an apron approached the counter but said nothing. I asked if I should order on the screen or with her and she said either was fine. I continued ordering on the screen and sat down. I ordered 2 drinks with boba and fries. After a couple minutes the lady with the apron told me they did not have French fries and if I wanted chicken or something else instead. We took the chicken and wondered how a business doesn't know they are out of an item on their menu especially as we were the first customers of the day. Received our drinks and chicken with a "chicken's ready" and that was it. One of my daughters still said thank you as she has been taught to always be kind and gracious but not even her thank you was met with any type of acknowledgement. I am not sure where all the good reviews come from but maybe they are not from customers who look like me and my children. I pass by this place every day when I take my kids to school and it would have been a great place for a weekly treat but no. I'd rather spend my money at Starbucks because they greet everyone who walks in. Or at our other favorite, Rose donuts across the street. On the plus side, the pizza place near by tea town is opening soon and they gave us a coupon for a free pizza when they open, and the workers there were really nice.
