I love this place! Born and raised in California, I naturally wanted to find a good place for asian food when I came to cincinnati. This was the best place I could find nearby in my first few years. Today I'd say it's my favorite place to go. They have made significant improvements in their menu over the years to what I now consider a decent place for anyone with cravings for asain food. They also deliver if you're nearby which is one of the U wiry features of this place since other restaurants do not deliver. They are also very affordable, friendly, and fast. It location near campus makes it a great spot to stop by and grab a bubble tea, space is limited so they do not like people just sitting there for only bubble tea when they have patrons that want a table for food orders. They have braised hot pots, offal, and just a huge menu. The onion pancake is a really good app that they have that is a layered and dense roti/nann like bread studded with scallions. There are your americanized options, but I have never tried those. The authentic chinese meals are definitely spicey, sichuan leaning as opposed to northern or cantonese. This also means that it is usually a little more greasy since there is a lot of chilli oil. When I am in the mood for bubble tea, this is the spot. I WANT to like Tea 'n' Bowl. I've been more times than other places I would rate as a 3-stars. I guess I've had varying experiences there? From my memory, the first two times I'd been there were markedly better. My most recent trip there, we were the only table eating in. We saw a few takeout orders come and go. We ordered the beef ho fun, the Mongolian beef, duck with rice, and a fourth dish that I can't recall. I thought the first two dishes (and probably the last one) were WAY too heavy in garnishes, most notably onion of different kinds. I had to pick out probably 30-40% of the contents of the dish because I can't eat that much onion in my food. The duck was all bones and skin, and the little meat we could eat was dry. We both ordered boba teas and they were just way too sweet and clearly made from powder. I ended up watering mine down by half and then it tasted much nicer. read more

They presented us with a large but manageable menu, plus about 80 options for bubble tea not including add-ons like jelly and popping boba. Kumquat bubble tea may sound odd, but if you like citrusy tea, this is the ticket. DLW had a "slush" taro tea, which was delicious also. DLW's duck noodle soup satisfied her duck lust, with lots of crisp meat and noodles along with bok choy, her favorite Chinese vegetable. Pho is an odd item for a Chinese place, but this version with fatty brisket and meatballs made this pho lover happy. You can find standard American Chinese dishes as well, but why eat kung pao when so much goodness is on offer? The specials menu on the wall was written in Chinese, so we don't even know what other possibilities may be out there. Service was a bit iffy, but they were breaking in a new server. This is mainly a bubble tea review because I decided to spend the day in the area and wanted something to sip on while reading my book outside. Went in and got a taro bubble tea. The girl who made it for me was such a sweetie and made small talk with me while she made it. I mentioned I am originally from New York and she got excited, asking if I've had a lot of bubble tea before and I have. She handed me the tea and asked me to try it right there and it was perfect; creamy, just the right sweetness and the boba were cooked to perfection. She got really excited when I told her I loved it and I will definitely be coming back again. If you are looking for true, authentic cuisine that respects tradition and if you enjoy getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new, you MUST try this place. The Chef is remarkably friendly, visits and chats with the customers. Of the dozen or so times I've been, I had a minor issue with the food one time. The Chef apologized numerous times and offered to comp the meal. When I declined his generous offer, he instead brought out a free dessert and free bubble teas. I will patronize this restaurant as often as I can. The menu is such that you could eat there for a year and never order the same thing twice. I usually start with low expectations when it comes to a city's Chinese food when said city has no Chinatown district. Having spent 18 years of my life not too far from Manhattan, 5 years of my life living in downtown Boston, and just shy of a year in the San Francisco Bay area, I've grown acustomed to real, authentic Chinese food. Despite not particularly enjoying much of the cuisine itself, I still developed a love for real, authentic, quality Bubble Tea (or "Boba", if you prefer), specifically the milk tea varieties. When I moved to Clifton, I knew I was in for decent bar food, a variety of fast food, and more Indian cuisine than I could handle. While walking home from Mac's, I saw that the neighboring Tea N' Bowl restaurant had bubble tea. Naively, in retrospect, I ordered my usual favorite: almond milk tea with tapioca. Much to my surprise (and enjoyment) it was amazing! Just as good -- if not better! -- than the bubble tea I remember from and loved in my previous urban lives! My decision was naive because at the time I didn't know that you can make custom bubble tea creations by combining their flavors. They have a part of their tea menu that shows recommended combinations (coffee + vanilla milk tea, mango + pineapple tea, etc.) but you can make your own as well. I've never experienced that before coming to Tea N' Bowl, and it's awesome! However, both the chicken teriyaki bowl and the side salad I ordered were cloyingly sweet! I actually find teriyaki to be too sweet much of the time, but this might have been the sweetest teriyaki sauce (and salad dressing) I ever been served. Also, minus one star for a real pet peeve of mine: having a picture of a dish on the menu not match the actual presentation! I stayed away from adding the vegetables to my pho due to their lack of freshness. The pho broth also tasted bland and was lacking in flavor. I added a pack of soy sauce to the broth, but it still did not give it any substantial flavor. My boyfriend on the other hand had the beef brisket noodle soup and that tasted phenomenal. The broth was full of flavor, the meat was soft and tender, and the noodles had a good chew to them. Would likely not order pho from this place again, but I'll come back for their other items. Lunch for 2 was basically the price of lunch for 1 at most other places of this caliber. I had the chicken broccoli. It was delicious. Highly recommend that with the fried rice. Why only 4-stars you may ask: 1) They were out of several dishes on the menu and didn't inform us until after we tried to order one of them. 2) The coke products are served in cans. Ok food. We got 4 things. Definitely a bit pricy for its taste Pan fried noodle Seafood hot pot Spare Ribs Szechuan The only good thing was the spare ribs Szechuan. It tasted somewhat "buffalo-y" but Chinese style. Next. Pan fried noodle The noodle had great texture, however the "gravy" that they always put on these crispy noodles aren't very tasty. They were also similar to the seafood hot pot which was packed with 1$ imitation crab meat and nothing else. Tea 'n' Bowl is one of my favorite places to treat myself when I am feeling blue. I always get something yummy to eat (they have really great vegetarian options). I was hooked on their teriyaki tofu for awhile, but now I've moved on to orange tofu. Both are fantastic. I also love to get a bubble tea whenever I stop in. My favorite is red bean, but I also enjoy strawberry and green apple. I kind of change my favorite depending on the seasons, I think. Bubble teas always have a way of cheering me up, which is the reason this place is a stop on my "Treat yo'self" tour of Cincinnati. The only thing I find odd is you pay for the bubble tea separate from the food order. However, I have been such a repeat customer over the last year that I don't even find that weird anymore. It's just how it works. The staff has always been very nice and courteous, and I've never had a bad experience at Tea 'n' Bowl. As soon as I came to Cincy, I kind of began to accept the fact I probably wouldn't find good Asian fare anywhere close. That all changed when I tried Tea N' Bowl! I tried them first at this year's Asian Food Fest with the sticky rice. AWESOME. I was a bit let down when I came to dine in and asked for the same sticky rice. It's special occasion thing, so they don't serve it in the restaurant. That's ok! I tried the Beef Rendang, which was very good. My only complaint is that the entree-to-rice ratio was a bit off on that - I got a ton of rice, with a smaller portion of curry! My companion had MaPo Tofu, and it was pretty good. Just make sure you order an extra side order of rice! We also ordered a Thai milk tea boba and taro boba. Bother were so yummy, but a little more cremy than I'm used to. The tapioca pearls we indeed a bit softer, as other reviews had mentioned. I feel like it helps absorb the flavor of the milk tea! We ordered take out a couple days ago, and the food was amazing.. again! I got the fish filet with tofu over rice, and my companion got braised pork (which is actually pork belly). Both were delicious! The fish filet with tofu comes with steam tofu and some vegetables in a light sauce. The braised pork came on top of thicker rice (?) noodles. We both got the royal tea, which is an earl grey milk tea. The royal milk tea is byfar my favorite!! You can't go wrong here... Everything's good! I just wish they were open all day on Sundays.
