After my not so pleasing encounter with tea talk's bubble drink, I didn't really want to try another place. But this place had an aura that attracted me. It had an aura that attracted me, but I couldn't go that day because I already went to Tea Talk yay. `-` Experience: You walk in. It's darkish but light enough to see. Kpop / Cpop music plays in the background. Greeted as you walk in and allowed time to look at menu on the screens. Once your choice is made, eye contact with the cashier woman and she takes my order. Works on it right away. Hands me my cup of thai tea and asks if I wanted anything else. Of course I'd love to try everything but not today, I reply. I pick my own colorful straw and walk to a table to poke my straw in the plastic wrappings. The Tea: Freshly brewed tea. I like how they left the tea and milk in a gradient blend for me to mix myself and watch it turn orange. Bubbles are MARVELOUS. You think Tea Talk's bubbles are great? THINK AGAIN. This place has the best bubbles I have EVER eaten in the fifteen years of my life. The Place: Decor is very nice and people are nice too. They speak loud enough and the music isn't too loud either. They can speak both english and chinese so it's not a place for just the youngins'. Menus are nicely on the wall and text is visible for a blind mouse like me. Menus also available outside the store so you don't have to awkwardly walk in and be like 'Heyyy.. oh you don't serve xx nevermind' and walk out. Conclusion: Definitely visiting again. Tea Do will do if you are really craving boba. Unfortunately once you walk in you can smell the artificial flavorings that they use which made me skeptical. We still went through with it and ordered the hulk and the black milk tea. To my surprise, the taste was not bad at all. Definitely better than anything I've had in maryland but not up to par to any of the LA boba places i've tried. Average at best (taste wise) compared to the other shops in the area. My drinks were very watered down and the bubbles were extremely chewy on two different occasions. They're normally pretty busy due to the fact that they have a good location and one of the first bubble tea places in Chinatown. With that being said, I've had much better drinks from Vivi just across the street and Kung Fu Tea just a block away. You can also tell this by the clientele of the various shops. It look crowded around 8pm on a Tuesday night. Whenever there is a big crowd, there's something unique about the place. After we ate dinner, we came and brought drinks. I got their drink, "First love" and my boyfriend got "tropical twister". You are able to substitute the jelly to tapioca pearls without a charge. In all seriousness, I love to drink tea with balls in it. Taiwan seriously rocks for inventing this. I absolutely love it. For you tea with balls noobies, sometimes it's called bubble tea, other times boba tea, sometimes the balls are called "pearls." But what I dig about this place is they don't just stop at the normal black balls, they have a large assortment of "fruit jellies" you can add to your milk tea or smoothies. Recently, I was also introduced to the fruit flavored "popping balls" that are filled with juice and pop in your mouth. Yes, POPPING boba! It's like a gusher in your mouth! Only, it explodes with totally awesome flavors like green coconut tea and guava fruit tea. Tea Do offers a nice variety of snacks and drinks that sell at an affordable price. Love Tea Do ever since Boston. Was so disappointed by the one in MD, I'm glad the PA location is comparable to Boston's. I got the Grinch which was their speciality drink and it was good. Strong green apple flavors and the lychee bits added texture. It came in a lightbulb thing which I think the girls love since my fiancé and her cousin kept taking pictures of it.. but as a guy? One of the best bubble tea places I've been to! Obviously, there are plenty of bubble tea places to choose from in Chinatown. I chose Tea Do based on yelp reviews, and it was such a great pick. The menu is so extensive - I don't think I've been to a bubble tea places with so much variety. I especially like their menu because they have several speciality drinks and occasionally a few fun rotating specials. For example, they had Beauty and the Beast themed drinks when I visited in honor of the new movie coming out! Since this was my first visit, I just opted for the classic milk tea with boba. It was delicious (the boba was fresh!) and affordable. All of their drinks looked incredible. I plan to come back and try it all! If I could give this place a 0/10 I would. First off, I along with 10 other people waiting in line were not served before 9:30pm because the woman at the register didn't want to take out order. I decided to try the thai coconut smoothie with coconut jelly and it is just fantastic with a perfectly sweet, creamy drink base and plenty of coconut jelly. I know I do not know the actual 'authentic' taste of bubble tea but I think I know enough to know which have the fake sugary syrup taste and which have the fresh fruity taste. Tea Do definitely does not have the powder sugar taste like a lot of other places, which is why I am always down to go to Tea Do. Here's the breakdown. I'm from Southern California and I love boba. There are a great many wonderful boba places where I come from. When I came to Philly, I was disappointed with the "bubble tea" I found on many corners (which made me sad). Tea Do seems to have broken that trend with some decently priced, good tasting boba. The place reminds me of home - both through the atmosphere in the cafe and the kinds of boba drinks it offers. Food and Drinks: 3.5/5 The different milk teas are decent, and the boba is perfectly chewy and not weird like some other places I've been to in Philly. The warm drinks are definitely an excellent cure for a freezing SoCal person in Philly during the winter (I've pretty much come to terms with the unfortunate reality that I will never be able to function normally in temperatures below 50 degrees). The small side dishes are decent as well - the onigiri is warm and delicious, and the takoyaki is good as well. Service: 4.5/5 The employees are friendly and take/make your order pretty quickly. Atmosphere: 4.5/5 Reminds me of home - always bustling, with some energetic music playing and lots of young people (like myself). The board games and Jenga are a nice touch. The cafe is pretty clean and aesthetically appealing. Yummmmm. Yet another reason why Philly's Chinatown trumps DC's by a huuuuge margin - we don't even have a decent bubble tea place in ours! I thought that Ten Ren in College Park, MD (my go-to for bubble tea back home) was as good as it could get in the bubble tea world. I was dead wrong. I love the atmosphere at Tea Do -- it definitely has more of a "lounge/bar" feel that works for them. There's even Jenga and Uno to play, and a very wide selection on their menu. The black milk tea is really strong and tastes more like tea than milk... this is a good thing. I've come to realize that my Ten Ren bubble tea always seems to taste more like the flavoring than the actual tea itself, which sucks. The tapioca pearls here are SO soft and chewy that it makes the ones I've been having back home feel like chalk marbles. The second time I came here (oh yes, two trips in two days...) I got the avocado smoothie and it was soooo creamy and delicious. My friend's green apple smoothie with lychee jelly was also delicious, and I was really surprised at the portion sizes because you get a lot more value here than I do back home at TR.
