My daughter has studied violin at Tchaikovsky music school with Mr. Sarkis Salamanyan for over one year, and piano with Mrs. Irina for half an year and music theory with Mr. T for few months. She has made tremendous progress in her music journey under their teachings. This music school has the best qualified teachers in their respective instruments and fields. The teachers approach the young students with patience and enthusiasm, they are strict in their profession as well to educate the young musicians with the best music skills. Music study for young learners sometimes are not easy, there are ups and downs especially with instruments practice. I appreciate the teachers' patience and dialogue to revive their love for the music. My daughter respects Mr. Sarkis and know he is the best violin teacher in the world. Mrs. Irina has an amazing & magical skill to teach piano. She helps learners to open their ears to hear their own music and emphasize good touch of the keyboard. I learned piano when I was young, but her way of teaching is different, the music is extremely beautiful and elegant. The teachers at Tchaikovsky are amazing. Both of my kids have been coming here for 6 years with the same piano teacher, Ms. Lily. She teaches with passion and love for music and more importantly she truly cares about the kids. I spend about 3 hours a week at the music school and have been able to observe the interactions of other students and teachers. Mr. Sarkis who teaches violin and Ms. Irina who teaches piano are both amazing teachers. Very passionate and patient with kids, especially younger kids. For music theory, I highly recommend Mr. T. We found Tchaikovsky Music School by referrals. The teachers at the school really care about their students. They have a good solid foundation of knowledge and set their students up for success from a very young age. Most of them are classically trained. They are very active in the community, arranging recitals and inviting visitors to participate. There are many rooms to accommodate all types of instrumental lessons. There is a wide variety of instrument lessons to choose from and many students learn more than one instrument! Our teacher very rarely cancels or moves lessons, and this creates consistency in our lesson plan. My son has only been going for 6 months for his piano lessons and I can already see meaningful improvements. The school is located in a big plaza with plenty of parking. Their hours are also very accommodating to school hours and parents' work hours. The teachers are dedicated to their students' goals and development. Finding a good music school is not an easy job. We used to learn piano at Yamaha. Compared here with Yamaha Mrs. Lily taught a lot in just two months. Yamaha , they just teach you a little bit every time, but they let you play a lot with the wrong posture. Lily is a patient but strict teacher. She has taught piano many years.some of her privous students become adults now. Private lessons are kind of boring because there is no other kids. This is a really serious music school. I took lessons from Sarkis Salamanyan when I was in college and was very impressed with his professionalism, serious approach to the art of music, and teaching abilities, so when my middle-schooler became serious about violin and wanted lessons I looked up Mr. Salamanyan & found his Tchaikovsky Music School in Walnut. My son has been there for a year now--his playing has blossomed and he loves to work hard and learn. My mom, who also played violin through her younger years, heard my 12-year-old & noted that he has a very mature sound and that he even has a lovely vibrato. I have heard good things about all of the instructors there, but we have only studied with Mr. Salamanyan and we cannot recommend him enough. My fiddle-playing husband has played violin since he was 5 but didn't study steadily with any particular teacher (though had some wonderful mentors here & there)--he wishes that he had been able to learn under the tutelage of Mr. Salamanyan. Our plan is to continue to study with Mr. Salamanyan at the Tchaikovsky music school as long as our son wants to study violin. read more

We pass this place multiple times a week, as it is on our various routes to and fro around Walnut and always wondered how it was. There weren't many yelp reviews, so we were a little anxious about going in. One day, wifey decided that it was time to check it out, so she called in and asked, and they recommended that we come in so they could assess the little one's abilities so that they could provide her with the proper instructor. We went in, she was assessed, and paired up with Didn't realize they did both piano and various string instruments, so that's also an option for your kids, or even you adults. I've seen several go in there. There is no guessing game when it comes to prices here, basically, it's $30 per half hour for basic lessons and the pricing goes from there. It's priced out on their sheet. I know some people might think that it's a little pricey, but with my wife and I both being piano players, the latter MUCH more of one than the former, we have seen how our daughter's instructor is and she's very good. She's patient with her, yet stern enough that our daughter is being challenged. It's not an easy-go, just come in and pass the time environment, these instructors are here to teach, not babysit, so you really get what you're paying for. We've had instructors in the past that came to our home and after almost a year, didn't teach the kids anything, so I know a thing or two when it comes to what one should expect from a music instructor. The staff here may seem impatient, but they are very good at what they do, and expect a lot of the kids, as I feel it should be. Again, you get what you pay for, especially when it comes to music. Trust me. They have an auditorium, though I haven't seen it yet, for recitals, so there's no need to go to a different venue for them, as I have had to in the past. And they have a ton of rooms for the various lessons, it's very well laid out, imo. Tuition is due within 7 days of the first lesson of the month and they do charge late fees. They don't mess around here. But I definitely feel that my daughter will be that much the better after being a part of this school. read more

We are so glad that one of the other parents recommended Tchaikovsky School of Music. It has a variety of teachers who were sure to suit the different needs of different families. Some want a teacher who pushes, others want one who is friendly, still others want one who spells out every little detail. We feel blessed to have found one who matches our kids. His favorite phrase is "There are no good teachers, only good students." He puts the responsibility on the student. If lessons are going well or not depends on the amount of effort the student puts in at home and the attention they invest while in class. Mr Jacob is a professional violinist and a master teacher with a wealth of experience, so every moment is precious with him! We spent two years with a previous teacher, elsewhere, and our kids were never really taught how to read violin notes, but under Mr. Jacob we matched/exceeded those slow two years of lessons in under 6 months!!  Mr. Jacob challenged and encouraged them, and they began to read the notes well without any finger numbers. He values more how to play, how to make good sounds with good posture, not how to show off an expensive violin. Some people might think that he is tough, but his toughness comes from a care and support for students who want to learn more, and we are REALLY glad to have him as our teacher. And we are sure that people will find a teacher there that matches their styles, too. read more

She has a beautiful background, but not those kind like only know how to play but don't know how to teach; she is very nice but very strict, she focuses on a lot of more important things like motions rather than just have him play a song. If I could give this place more stars I would. I highly recommend this school, namely my daughter's teacher, Mrs Anna. My child is just shy of 5 years old, is energetic, wiggly, and easily distracted but Mrs Anna does an incredible job of staying in command of her along with making the learning experience fun. She really has the patience of a saint and truly loves working with children and it absolutely shows. Unfortunately, I know quite a few children (or adults who took lessons as a child) who hated every minute of it because the experience was made dreadful and boring.
