I feel very grateful and appreciative for my parents who were willing to sign me up for HS2's…read morecounseling program. I know for sure that if I had not joined 3 years ago, my full potential would not have been properly written out in my essays. The extra materials I asked for proved helpful for my SAT prep, AP test scores, and even my usual school assignments. My HS2 counselor was extremely supportive and a great guide. When I was at my lowest during quarantine, she didn't make me feel worse for my bad performance. She supported me throughout the experience, and I was able to recover my grades and mental health. All of my questions were answered, and many helpful suggestions were provided. She helped me explore my options, as well as what would be the best fit for me! Many opportunities were opened up to me--some were provided by HS2 directly (such as college courses over the summer, or community service programs) while others were suggested. I would have never thought of asking my neighbors who owned a beauty clinic to ask for a summer internship, or to start my own custom-painted bookmark non-profit. These were all valuable learning experiences for me, and provided the content I needed to paint my personality through my essays. Manager Helen graciously offered to help edit my financial aid appeal to my dream school, which I was accepted into. Without the appeal, I would not have had a chance to even think of attending it due to the financial barrier. Overall, I'm very thankful to have gotten this chance to have HS2's support throughout my high school career, and I look forward to attending my dream college :)

I had a mentor/teacher who tutored me, another teacher who graded my assignments and guied my online course, along with a Associate Director Julie Chae to help everything go smoothly. HIGH SCHOOLERS, from a junior's perspective, elite open school is better than taking ap courses at your own school. Small group sessions and great focused mentorship really makes this place stand out. - hannah y

I was one of those kids at Elite who were lazy and unmotivated. Parents forced me to come. I was…read moreoften the class clown and a punk towards the staffers/proctors at the front desk. The only benefits I saw, at the time, were 'shortcuts' to answering questions on the SAT and the one on one college counseling / essay writing with Julian Chou. Everything else felt like a waste of my time. I came to summer boot camps to make friends, some of whom I still keep in touch with. Looking back, all of that went a long way. Sure, some might argue it's not worth the money but it really depends on how the student takes advantage of all the resources. I certainly didn't take advantage of all of them but all the instructors are specialized in specific subjects and are quite knowledgeable. Some of these instructors already have full time jobs yet they take their time during or outside of Elite classes to help students. If you can study independently, props to you but most high school students can't. I couldn't. And in this way, Elite was very helpful, using both former and original test questions to evaluate how you'd score on a real test. I enjoyed all my teachers (few whom I still keep in touch with) and the staff, yes they were mean. They were too direct and condescending. However in retrospect, considering how annoying I must've been, imagine that multiplied with hundreds more. Elite wants their students to take practice tests as if it's the real setting. You can't talk, text, or cheat and you shouldn't fall asleep. I attended Elite about 10 years ago. I wasn't close to a 2400 nor did I get into an Ivy League. But considering what I've achieved since then, I can't thank them enough for prepping me for that very first step to 'adulthood': college.

SAC so parking is fairly easy. First off, the staff here is AMAZING. Everyone is so approachable, and accommodating to my son. He likes that they have a point system to earn punches to redeem for fun prizes. My son already has his eye on getting a gift card. They also have themed spirit days during the summer like cookie day, pajama day, crazy hair day, etc. My oldest son did Kumon for a while a number of years ago. The Mathnasium system is different than Kumon as there are no worksheets that you have to bring home as additional homework. With Mathnasium there is an instructor assigned to work with a small group of students to help them understand concepts, so it feels like a semi-private tutoring session. I signed up my son, not with the goal to make him advance to high school math in 5th grade, but to help him with the basic grade level concepts that he was having trouble with. My son enjoys his sessions (which to me is already a win when a kid likes going to a math and I can see his confidence growing as he completes his mastery checks. I like that he's not stressing out about doing worksheets at home like my oldest son did with the other program. FYI, session fees for elementary school kids are less expensive than middle schoolers, so if you sign them up while they're in elementary, you can lock in the same costs even when they continue in middle school.
