All the counselors at Lee's Review have been so helpful in guiding me through the process of college applications! I truly would have been lost and utterly confused without them. They were extremely experienced in the entire college application process, going over small but important details I never even knew existed. Personally, I think what differentiates them from other college counselors is that they support you through every part of the application process, even the ones that seem minor, and they also take a lot of care to make sure you understand what you're doing and why you are doing it. However, they do not do any "hand-holding" with students, meaning you are ultimately the one who completes every part of your application and makes the important decisions, while the counselors at Lee's Review serve as highly skilled advisors. Lee's review college admissions/SAT prep spaces get filled up early and fast. They are known in the community purely by word of mouth and so I wanted to keep it a secret but I'm done now! Like everyone says, Mr Lee really does care for the students. He & his staff take care of them like family. They nag for you so you don't have to. Seriously, college admission time is a very stressful time for these teens as well as the parents. They help the students in every aspect of being a high school student really. From their sleep, study habits, classes, looking at extra curricular, college options, majors, the common app, financial aid, and even after college acceptances. I especially appreciated them checking up on the my student's grades even after the applications were submitted bc that really matters (& senioritis is real) and Mr Lee giving them a boost of confidence (bc this process totally knocks them down, physically & mentally). Mr Lee has built lasting relationships with his students so when your student is ready to decide on a college, he is able to connect your student to students who are in or graduates of colleges all over the country. Some of my colleagues were chatting about sending their kids to SAT prep schools, and Lee's Review popped up in my mind. Don't have kids yet, nor am I at the age where my kids would be applying to colleges, but figured this is a well deserved review that is long long overdue. I was terrible at math, even in middle school - so I was Mr. Lee's student from way back, when he used to drive a Black Honda Accord (I think?) and go to your residence to teach. This must've been 99'-2000 or so. I then attended his prep classes throughout high school, up until Junior year. Throughout all that time, I felt Mr. Lee was amazingly helpful. Helping to raise your SAT scores is baseline for him; he goes above and beyond that. He genuinely cares about your well being, future, goals, and who you are as a person. His positive attitude and gentle discipline serves as a great role model for students. I'm sure I'm not the only one that can say that Mr. Lee was a big reason for many people's successes - not just in whatever college they land in, but beyond. And I think that's what separates him and his academy. It's not simply about helping you get to your dream school, or that big Ivy League. Sure, if you achieve that - then all the better. I am SO incredibly appreciative of the continued guidance and support that I have received from Lee's Review over the past few years & here is why: I have known the faculty and staff at Lee's Review for the past 8-9 years as my brother was a student there. I witnessed the never-ending support they gave to help him ace his SATs and go on to attend his dream school, USC. I started my time at Lee's Review as a freshman because I needed tutoring for my science and math classes. We signed up my daughter for the SAT prep summer course in January 2020 (pre-Covid). Once Covid hit and we went in lockdown, Lee's gave two options, a refund on our deposit or continue with the course but virtually. My daughter wanted to continue with the course. My daughter loved the course and gitso much out of it. She said the instructors were great and helpful, even on Zoom. You get what you put in, which is what they explained when we first met with Lee's. After my daughter's test dates cancelled three times due to Covid, she finally got a test date in November. When she first took the practice test at Lee's, she scored an 1180. After taking the course and studying based on what Me. Lee and the other instructors told her to study, my daughter scored a 1540. I can't say enough great things about Lee's Review. I can honestly say that signing my children up for SAT classes was the best investment I have made. My daughter was a National Merit Scholar and would not have been able to do this without the help of Lee's Review. I loved my experience at Lee's Review! I went for the SAT program in the summer of 2016. All of the staff at Lee's is extremely helpful. Mr. Haven, Mrs. Haven, and Mr. Lee give clear and descriptive explanations while teaching. I could tell from the beginning of the program that they love teaching their students and put in a great amount of effort to make the learning interactive, demonstrative, and fun. In addition, they are never hesitant to answer questions and help outside of class time! I also found the sessions with the TAs to be very beneficial. The one-on-one sessions with Betty and David gave me insight on how to better approach my reading and writing sections. The TAs can help provide a different perspective than the teachers, which can sometimes assist in clarifying difficult concepts. With the collective teaching of the staff at Lee's, I was able to achieve a perfect math score and a high reading and writing score on my SAT. While at taking classes Lee's Review, my main goal was to improve my SAT test-taking skills. However, I found that I learned skills that were applicable outside of the SAT as well! I still find myself applying problem-solving, grammar, and writing techniques that I learned from Lee's Review up to today. One thing that I believe differentiates Lee's Review from other tutoring centers is that all the staff at Lee's truly care about the students. After I had taken my diagnostic test, I felt that the class would have been similar to a regular classroom setting, where I would sit, learn, then head home. I was completely wrong. It's November and my son has taken his SAT exam twice after taking Lee's summer course. On the first day of the class, they administered the exam without any tutoring and my son started off with 1230. It was a decent score. By the end of the course, my son's highest scored achieved was 1540. He took the real test in August and earned a 1510. Mrs. Lee advised Our son to get more tutoring before the October test. Lee's Review is for college consulting, but it feels like family. We moved to southern California from a different state in the southeast when our son was entering 10thgrade. We did not know anybody locally, so did not have any word of mouth reference to a good college consulting group. We just looked up websites, and online reviews, and then visited three such places locally. We felt the most comfortable at Mr. Lee's. This bears out now, after four years, when our son has already finished one year of college, and is still in very close contact with Mr. Lee, Mrs. Lee, and their staff. Even our son felt like the place was family. While guiding a student, Mr. Lee's philosophy at looking beyond just the admission to a college, to actually performing well in college, was a great selling point for us. Also, they always stressed the importance of enough sleep and 'me time' with plenty of examples of their students who had done that in high school and went on to do well in good colleges. He offered that we could speak with some of the parents whose kids they have worked with before. We did do that, and all of the references were glowing praise about Lee's Review. My wife and I did not go to high school in the US, so had no idea about how/which courses to pick in high school, and the entire college admission process. We were lucky to find great helping hand at Lee's Review. The amount of time they spent our son was beyond what we had imagined. And seemed like all with smiling faces. Result was that our son did get into one of his, and our, top choices. Our son did not take any test preparation classes at Lee's Review, just college counseling This is a very professional outfit, but with heart, who has the aim of students' success in college, not just in gaining admission. Now that both of my kids are in college (Dartmouth and Berkeley), I can share my experience on Lee's Review from the parents' perspective. As working parents, we didn't have time to assist our kids in prepping for SAT and college admission. Our college-prep experience 20+ years ago was not the same, and the admission process was not nearly as competitive as today's standard. We decided to put our daughter in Lee's Review for both SAT and college prep programs. My daughter got admitted to her 1st choice of college. Two years after, we put our son in the same program. I felt that Mr. Lee and the staff genuinely care for the students. Throughout the prepping period, he called, texted, emailed my kids to remind of their assignments, tasks, and even coaching them on time management. He continues giving them advice even after they got admitted, and follow up occasionally to see how they do in college. I wouldn't be where I am today without Lee's Review. I know that sounds cliche or odd that I would say something to that extent about a Test Prep/College Consulting center, but they've been so much more than that to me. I first joined the Lee's Review family for their SAT prep program. As a student who tended to procrastinate and definitely did not like doing homework... Lee's Review and their staff made the SAT prep more than bearable. They made the learning environment so comfortable and fun that I ended up boosting my SAT score by over 500 points!!! If I had gone anywhere else, I don't think this would've been possible. Every class that I was late to or quiz I failed, they were there to care as much as a parent would. Which, led me to convince my mom to sign me up for their college consulting program. I knew that I wouldn't be better off anywhere else in getting help going to my dream college, WHICH I ENDED UP DOING (hint: sunny California, a little expensive as an understatement). Anyways, TO THIS DAY, I still keep in contact with Lee's Review. Mr. Lee has become my life mentor, and as a college student I still look to him for advice. I'm a junior at the University of Pennsylvania right now, and though it's been over three years since I've been enrolled as a student at Lee's Review, I still fondly remember the center as a place of home. What distinguishes Lee's Review from every other education center you'll find is the people. This is a place of community, that cultivates warmth, compassion, support and growth. My teachers here weren't just instructors, they were mentors and friends. And years later, I still consider them family. It's the abundance of human connection and philosophical stimulation between and among faculty and students here that made me look forward to coming to class every day during the summer (yes, before coming here I didn't believe one could be thrilled about going to SAT class either). The Lee's team cares exceptionally deeply about the well-being and growth of their students. During my unruly, green high school years, they showed me nothing but endless support, patience and understanding. They empowered me with radical confidence in my personal strengths and distinct qualities, helping me self-actualize as a human being in completely revelatory ways. They helped me flourish. I am profoundly grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of such a truly remarkable community. There is a beautiful Pali word from Buddhism that captures the essence of Lee's review to me -- mettā, described as "benevolence, loving-kindness, friendliness, amity, good will, and active interest in others." Thank you for everything Mrs. Lee, Mr. Lee, Mr. Pyun, Mrs. Haven, Mr. Haven and everyone else.
