There are things about this business that aren't bad at all. The teachers were kind and friendly. They sell snacks to the kids so they don't get hungry, too. And their tutoring is very helpful. My tutoring would be the reason my math grade was a perfect 100. School-Connection has clean restrooms(a separate one for boys and another for girls) and a large tutoring area. They have pick-up services from schools for $5 a day and a summer-school program with fun field trips every Friday. The tutors even looked over homework and helped the students study for upcoming tests and quizzes. However, there are some downsides to this place. School-Connection tuition is pretty expensive though. Also, the extra packet work they gave us was a lot, especially for the older kids. I admit that this extra work has helped me in school, but sometimes I just didn't have enough time or energy to do them. Overall, I would say School-Connection is a pretty great place. I spent so much time there that it practically became my second home.

HIGH SCHOOLERS, from a junior's perspective, elite open school is better than taking ap courses at your own school. Small group sessions and great focused mentorship really makes this place stand out. - hannah y

I was one of those kids at Elite who were lazy and unmotivated. Parents forced me to come. I was…read moreoften the class clown and a punk towards the staffers/proctors at the front desk. The only benefits I saw, at the time, were 'shortcuts' to answering questions on the SAT and the one on one college counseling / essay writing with Julian Chou. Everything else felt like a waste of my time. I came to summer boot camps to make friends, some of whom I still keep in touch with. Looking back, all of that went a long way. Sure, some might argue it's not worth the money but it really depends on how the student takes advantage of all the resources. I certainly didn't take advantage of all of them but all the instructors are specialized in specific subjects and are quite knowledgeable. Some of these instructors already have full time jobs yet they take their time during or outside of Elite classes to help students. If you can study independently, props to you but most high school students can't. I couldn't. And in this way, Elite was very helpful, using both former and original test questions to evaluate how you'd score on a real test. I enjoyed all my teachers (few whom I still keep in touch with) and the staff, yes they were mean. They were too direct and condescending. However in retrospect, considering how annoying I must've been, imagine that multiplied with hundreds more. Elite wants their students to take practice tests as if it's the real setting. You can't talk, text, or cheat and you shouldn't fall asleep. I attended Elite about 10 years ago. I wasn't close to a 2400 nor did I get into an Ivy League. But considering what I've achieved since then, I can't thank them enough for prepping me for that very first step to 'adulthood': college.

There's one day a week to take a practice test, and the rest of the days are used to review the test and teach concepts and skills in Reading, Writing, and Math. Because of this, there's only four days of class instead of five like at other places, and its great to have a day off. Michael only requires us to memorize around 50 words a week instead of the redundant 50 words a day at other places. This is not only less work for the students, but also makes it easier to actually understand and know the words. He explains reading and writing problems pretty well and cares about the students' progress. Mr. Hsu is a real math master and while he can be hard to understand at times, it is really impressive to watch him fill up the chalkboard with a plethora of numbers and arrows in a matter of seconds. For whatever reason, the math class goes by faster than the other classes, so theres always extra time, time that Mr. Hsu uses to give us magisterial advice not just about the SAT and college admissions, but also life in general. Amber and Betty are really nice, the bathrooms are clean, and they put dryer sheets up on the walls so the room smells nice. However, the thermostat is usually set at either 69 or 70 degrees, so it can get cold if youre just wearing a tshirt and shorts. Although another review said the water is bad, it really isnt. The water is decent, more like kirkland or crystal geyser.

I received a flyer in the mail, called to make and appointment, and Ms. Enoka was able to provide me a tour, tuition rates, and the philosophy of how they teach and care for children very clearly within 30 minutes. It was very easy to make the decision to have my daughter come to school here. So many experiences have affirmed our decision to be a part of this community. Here are the top 5. 1. Potty training has been a long journey for my daughter. Ms. Anayeli (when my daughter was 3) and Ms. Rehani (when my daughter was 4) were so communicative about troubleshooting with me when we couldn't figure out how to get her to stop having accidents. We discussed factors that could be contributing to her accidents and they shared with me what they were doing at school so I could continue at home and vice versa. 2. My daughter's social development accelerated when she started at this school. I attribute this to the open play they have in the afternoon. Kids of different ages are able to play outdoors on the grassy area and play structure while supervised by the teachers. During this time, my daughter was able make sense of what it meant to be a friend. 3. Teachers clearly communicate with the children right from wrong. My daughter has a strong sense of what is right and can communicate it with me because her teachers model it for her everyday. She is at school on most weekdays from 6:45am to 4:30pm so a lot of what she learns comes from school. 4. The parent teacher conferences were especially helpful in enabling me to find supplemental activities that I used to continue my child's learning at home. They used the Montessori framework to provide feedback which showed me what to prioritize next. 5. Ms. Enoka has been extremely responsive to any administrative needs like helping me fill out paperwork and providing documents for tax season. I've never had to wait longer than 24 hours for anything I needed. I am so grateful that my daughter got to experience this school. She has learned so much. On top of that, the Ms. Enoka and the teachers have shown up as educational partners as I raise my daughter!
