We recently tried out Golden Cow Creamery in Charlotte and enjoyed!…read more A couple of things that stood out for us was that it's really in the heart of Charlotte, which is nice, but didn't have a ton of flavor, toppings, or cone options. Apparently there was a ton of seasonal options that they ran out of, but the fact that there wasn't a chocolate brownie, dark chocolate, or chocolate peanut butter, or any Reese's of any kind was a bit upsetting. Those seem like pretty standard flavors which are fan favorites, but they weren't there. It's not to say that we didn't enjoy the experience, but they could use a lot of work by having more flavors, considerably more topping options, and even dipped waffle cones.

On this particular visit, I sat on the patio, which I had never done before, but it was nice and quiet and very relaxing on a Sunday evening. I ordered the cheesecake and it was garnished with caramel popcorn, which added a nice touch to look at, but the popcorn was stale so I don't really think it was necessary, but it did make the plate look pretty. The cheesecake was delicious. Couldn't finish it all, but I took it home and finished it the next day. Our server was great. She was very attentive, friendly, and gave good suggestions. Love Crave and I'll again and again.

But a good friend of mine said that they go all the time and haven't had any issues and wanted to get me to try it again. So, we went on a Saturday evening around 6ish. We didn't necessarily have any issues getting in, but the hostess did say that her security might have an issue with the shirt my friend had on, even though he was very dressed up. It made me uncomfortable and seemed threatning almost. But she let us in and everything was fine. I don't understand why Crave always acts this way. But then when I walk in I see people of non-color dressed any kind of way, casual, etc. It just really rubs me the wrong way and for it to happen to me EVERY time I go, only leads me to one conclusion... So, anyway. We were there and we ordered hookah drinks and had a good time. Our server was super sweet and chill. She really saved the visit. I had a good time, but I most likely will not be back again.

Jeni's continues to offer really fun flavors made well and even in non-dairy options (hooray for vegan flavors!) It's always a conundrum when there's more than 1 vegan-friendly flavor for me but they weren't busy so I got to try all of them. Sadly I was only able to narrow it down to two flavors - banana dream pudding (I'm usually not into banana but this is GOOD!) and peppermint patty. It was a weird combo but it worked! Thankfully they had regular sugar cones so that was vegan-friendly as well. The bf had a waffle cone and filled it with cookies in cream. A splendid time was had. Five Stars. Always.

I wanted to love this one, but unfortunately, it missed the mark for me!…read more Ninety's Dessert Bar debuted their scoopable cookie sundae this weekend, and I was excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, the execution didn't quite match my expectations. When I think of a scoopable cookie, I expect a soft, slightly underbaked texture that's easy to dig into with a spoon. This cookie was the opposite. It was pretty hard and barely scoopable at all. Beyond the texture, the flavor itself wasn't particularly impressive either. I honestly think a lighter bake would've made a world of difference! That soft, gooey consistency is what makes a scoopable cookie so enjoyable, and this one just didn't deliver. On a positive note, the staff was very nice, which I appreciated! Since this was a brand-new menu item, I'm hopeful they'll make a few adjustments as they continue rolling it out. Not my favorite dessert experience, but there's definitely room for improvement!

I drove down to Plaza-Midwood on purpose, just to try the ice cream here, & so glad I did. I had not heard of ube ice cream previously, but the staff kindly gave me a (generous) free sample to try. (Ube is apparently best described as a Japanese sweet potato, but the flavor is more like custard, versus a traditional "American" sweet potato.) The purple ube ice cream was delicious on its own. It didn't taste like sweet potato at all, more just like a delicious, creamy, unique soft serve. I wouldn't hesitate to order a cone of just that next time. In the end yesterday though, I settled on ordering a cone of the ube-vanilla swirl, because I had been craving vanilla ice cream all day. It was wonderful. The cone was just as exciting as the filling. Not a traditional cone at all, the texture was more like a pancake, with a crispy exterior. Delicious! What made it even more unique & delectable was the cone was warm, as it was freshly made to order, just for me. The batter was poured into a special machine, & then slowly baked to perfection. (I'll admit, the wait time was definitely longer than expected, but after realizing what a special treat had, I didn't mind a bit.) The combination of warm cone with cold ice cream, & chewy/crunchy "pancake" texture juxtaposed with creamy soft serve, made this one of the most unique & mouthwatering desserts I've ever tried! The atmosphere isn't fancy, but it doesn't need to be. The location in Plaza-Midwood is great for grabbing a treat to enjoy while walking about town. I chose a fairly simple option, as I'm not really a "topping" kind of girl, but apparently there were all sorts of add-ins & sauces I could've chosen. Maybe next time will try some. One thing to note, eating it was a bit messy, so I recommend grabbing plenty of napkins! Finally, can I just add: a fish-shaped ice cream cone. How fun?!!
