Frederick the Great, former King of Prussia, once famously said, "An army marches on its stomach." And here in the Queen City, office workers march on their coffee cups or something like that. The metaphor breaks down under deep analysis, but the point is that in a city of keyboard operators and bankers and business analysts, we need our caffeine in order to be successful. There are dozens of coffee places in South End where we can get our coffee. Port Coffee is a new addition along Camden as the area continues to mature.
It's a contemporary open space that is fancy and higher end. Power outlets, lots of tables and seating, free wifi. And yes, excellent coffee. I stopped in this morning to meet with a friend. I was very early which meant that I found parking close by and could enjoy my coffee while pounding out a bunch of emails and enjoying watching the joggers going by on the rail trail. The front faces east, so it's going to be solid bright sunlight until late morning. They do not have curtains or shades.
Port Coffee has a light background music and it is quiet enough that conversations are still easy. The wifi worked well. The restrooms are clean. My cortado was perfection in a soft foam cup.
I had a great morning and spent three hours at Port Coffee. It was five stars. (Note that the meter maids in Charlotte are vicious, so make sure you've paid for your parking! $3 for two hours or a $25 fine. Choose wisely.)
