White chocolate raspberry shake looks like a heart was designed into the middle
    Chris T.

The ambiance was giving 70's diner which i am all for. The shake i got was a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake flavor which was really good the fries were nice and crisp and it was just such an overall great vibe. Service was awesome as its just a window to walk up to and order nothing crazy. Will definitely come back and try some more shakes

I've been to Taylor's for many many years. Don't know why it's taking me so long to write a Yelp review. I come here for the milkshakes (which they are famously known for). There's over 100 flavors. My go-tos are chocolate chip (vanilla ice cream blended with the chocolate they use to dip cones in- aka the " hard chocolate shell") or peanut butter chip (same thing but they add PB). I really think it's that hard chocolate shell sauce that makes the milkshake for me. If they used regular chocolate chips it wouldn't be the same! The digital menu of the milkshake flavors would change, which kind of threw me off a little bit. I feel like I couldn't focus on where I was reading. I realized I've never ordered food from Taylor's so today was the day! I ordered their smallest burger option which is the 1/6 lb junior burger. It was definitely a bite-size burger, (ok maybe a few bites) but it definitely packed a flavor punch. It had that "at-home charcoal backyard barbecue" taste that you want from a burger at a small town diner. It came with shredded lettuce, onion, a tomato and thousand island dressing. I was pleasantly surprised by the bun. It was so light and fluffy and airy! I was not expecting that. Know before you go: It's a small joint with a handful of tables inside, but there's also tables outside.

Best place ever. We don't live close by but anytime we pass through, stopping here is a must. Their list of shakes is unreal and you can't go wrong with anything. The burgers and all the sides are so good

What a great place!!!! Love that they have indoor & outdoor seating!!! We ordered a patty melt w/ no onions, fries, & cheese curds. Patty melt was delish!!! I loved the sauce & the patty was well seasoned!!!! Fries-no need 2 add salt as they were seasoned perfectly!!! Cheese curds were ok, wish they would've came w/ a dipping sauce. Service was great!!! It was pretty popping so we did have a small wait 4 the food.

Corn dog could've been fried longer. Same with chicken tenders. Onion rings, fries and fish and chips were all 10/10

This is a small local spot. You don't go here for amazing food, but it's good. Service is great. We love the Eagle fries(basically like in n out animal fries but I think better) and onion rings. Fish and chips were the favorite.

This is a really solid choice when in Loomis for a quality burger and shake spot. Fries here were really good as well. Plenty of parking available and it's only a couple minutes from the freeway. Order at the window and wait for your name to be called. Drinks come out first then food is either brought to you outside or waiting for you at the window you just ordered from. It was a pretty busy Saturday evening when my family and I stopped by but service was moving really fast. We stepped outside, grabbed a table and watched as cars and people passed by on the main strip of Loomis. Within 20 minutes our name was being called and we were digging into the brown bag of food. Plenty of options here and everyone got something different; hot dog, cheese quesadilla, corn dog, 1/3 pound burger and mine, the mushroom Swiss burger. The mushrooms were caramelized perfectly then piled on the beefy patty. The buns were pretty good as well. I'd definitely order it again upon returning. I liked their fries as the seasoning was just right. Pretty sure it was just Lawry's but it wasn't too much and not too little either. I was an order short of fries and when I went in they corrected it right away and brought my order when ready. I appreciated that. Definitely a really cool homegrown spot with local people eating inside and working as well. It has that American menu with American service and feels that is rarely found anymore. Taylor's will be getting my business again.

This is a small from burgers and cream!

If you go up the road just a few miles to auburn you definitely will get a better burger and fries and milkshakes! And ice cream cone ! And the price point is way better also! Go to Burgers and cream! Taylors has terrible service, grease hamburger, and baby bear portions of cones, with papa bear prices! 8.5 miles way worth the extra 10 minutes up the hill! Absolutely the best strawberry shakes! Burgers and Cream! A must go!

I really enjoy eating here. The food is always good and the staff are friendly and polite. It's a little like going back in time, great little neighborhood restaurant. The milkshakes are a real treat. The latest one I had was banana and it was perfect.

From the outside, Taylors enticed me with its 50's diner look, easy parking, quaint downtown Loomis location, and many ice cream signs. Inside, I liked the typical greasy spoon menu. I observed customers ordering chili and vanilla soft serve ice cream cones. The young servers were patient and helpful answering my questions about the milkshakes. Two popular shake flavors are Oreo and Mint Chip. One server's favorite is Mud Pie, which is similar to Rocky Road. Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry also made the Top 5 Shakes list. 1) Oreo 2) Chocolate 3) Vanilla 4) Strawberry 5) Mint Chip Look for the small asterisk (*) after the shake flavor if you want a Chocolate Soft Serve Base. I finally spotted that at the bottom of my pics. Sadly, my Peppermint Cheesecake shake looked and tasted like vanilla: a very faint cheesecake flavor and absolutely zero peppermint flavor. I should have stuck with a popular or recommended or more basic milkshake flavor, but I was on the hunt for a mandarin orange milkshake or peppermint milkshake. I found out their mandarin milkshake was made with a flavored syrup, so I vetoed that. I don't think the server really knew what the pink and blue highlights meant on the rotating shake menu inside the restaurant, suggesting it was different ice cream bases, like vanilla versus chocolate. Looking at my pics, I still can't figure it out. Menu color contrast and readability? I just noticed the top flavor when the pink or blue highlight begins is underlined, so maybe that is the featured seasonal or fresh or special add-in ingredient (i.e., banana, blackberry, cantaloupe, chocolate, peanut butter) for the subsequent flavors listed below it. Mango was underlined, and I was informed that was a fruit puree. I'm guessing the almond flavor is a flavored syrup. Does that imply all the flavors written in black are created from flavored syrups? Hmm, you may want to ask how a specific shake flavor is made before ordering it. Ask if they actually have that flavor of ice cream or the ingredients. The weekend before Christmas, you could buy a $18 10 lb bag of mandarin oranges from a local farm, Orchard Girl Mandarins. Tip: Free Kids Cone if you're at the register when a train whistles.

This abnoxious young kid with pink hair just yelled at me to get out of the store in the heat in front of everyone in the restaurant and form a line outside very rudely, now normally I would leave and never come back, but I've been coming for years and the shakes are extraordinary, but the way this kid and his customer service was he needs to be checked cause I would've written him up TWICE if he worked for me, he didn't need to be such a jerk! I was at the menu and line was moving!

Notice the bun and the wrapping paper. We live 2 minutes from the store

I think we can see the Oreo shake has real Oreos, ditto the Twinkie, PB cup, and Chip shakes, etc. -- but my concern are fruit flavors. I detest Torani Syrups, and wonder if most of the fruit flavors rely on "flavoring" and not fruit or mix-ins?

Kay, thanks for the question. Some of the fruit flavors are indeed syrup based, but not all. It depends on the flavor. When looking at our menu at order.taylorsloomis.com look for shakes that have puree or real fruit to help with your decision.

A Friday Night Home Run at Penryn Grill!…read more This was our third visit to Penryn Grill, and someone suggested we come back on a Friday night for the clam chowder and fish & chips. Let me just say...it was absolutely worth the return trip! First, the clam chowder. My wife gave it a 10 out of 10, and that's saying something because she's a self-proclaimed clam chowder snob. She rarely finds a chowder that can compete with her favorite spots in Monterey. Well...hallelujah--we finally found one! The bread bowl deserves its own standing ovation. It tasted like fresh sourdough that had just come out of the oven--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and absolutely delicious. Normally you finish the chowder and leave most of the bread behind. Not this time. I ate every single bite of that bread bowl. It was simply scrumptious. The fish and chips were equally impressive. They served a huge plank of fish that was lightly battered and cooked perfectly. Too many restaurants hide a tiny piece of fish under a mountain of batter, leaving you feeling disappointed (and overly full). Not Penryn Grill. The fish was fresh, flaky, and outstanding. In fact, it was the first time in our 43 years of marriage that I've seen my wife finish every bite of her fish and chips! The chips were another pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual thick fries, they were thinly shaved, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely addictive. We'd never had them prepared that way before, and they were a home run. Of course, I couldn't leave without ordering what I consider Penryn Grill's signature dish--the shrimp tacos. They are hands down the best around. Perfectly seasoned, loaded with flavor, and honestly worthy of ordering every single visit. The atmosphere was terrific. We loved the live '80s music, the service was fantastic as always, and our waitress graciously endured my terrible jokes with a smile. That's five-star service in my book. As retirees, we're always on the hunt for a place that serves a great meal at a great value, and Penryn Grill checks every box. One tip: If you're planning to go on a Friday for the chowder and fish & chips, arrive between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. They regularly sell out--and after this meal, it's easy to understand why. We'll definitely be back...again!

Decent value when craving barbecue…read more First time trying a restaurant in this area. Pleasantly surprised. I appreciated the location. Plenty of parking. The restaurant has outdoor seating and an interesting set up inside. As you walk in the bar is to the right with the kitchen in the far back. You have a small area with larger tables. Just to the left you have another room but smaller tables. At first my part was seated in the room with the small tables but knew our order, so we requested to be moved. Thankful there was a party that just left. Nachos with add-on brisket - we devoured it. There was a decent ratio of toppings as well as a healthy amount of brisket. Large pieces mostly hidden under the chips. This could be a meal on its own. 1lb fries with pesto and pulled pork - I wanted to like this. A generous portion of pulled pork to match but it was dry. The pesto aioli sauce didn't elevate or add anything. Just a subpar plate of fries. Three meat platter / double brisket (asked for fatty) and trip tip. Brisket was good, a little melt in your mouth but was lacking the smokiness and true bbq flavor you'd expect. Still a good protein. The trip tip was okay. It was cooked more than I'd like yet still a decent protein option. I def used the available condiments to elevate each bite. One thing to note - they charge for ranch, aioli sauces. Nothing that will break the bank but it would've been nice if the server mentioned it before serving us several containers of them. Overall a decent bbq spot. Is it the best? No. Is it good for this area? Sure. I'd come back for the nachos and the meat platter. Decent value for the amount of food. We walked away with leftovers which is a win in my books.

Stopped by Buckhorn for the first time for Father's Day lunch. Great joint for pretty good BBQ!…read more Buckhorn is an order at the counter and get a number type place. The line was long when we came in, but moved quickly. The bigger problem is that there aren't nearly enough tables for how many folks were dining in. We did end up finding a table on their patio- which is always a win for our family. For about $70, we got two kids' meals (one slider and one chicken tenders), a shareables order of the tri-tip tacos (that my wife ate as her entree), and a two-protein platter with the pulled pork and tri-tip. They asked how we wanted our tri-tip cooked, and we answered medium, but all of the tri-tip came out well done. The flavors of everything were good, though, and the portions are substantial. The kids' meals are a great value. The two-protein platter was enough for two meals if you wanted it to be. The tacos were filled generously and were very tasty. I enjoyed the coleslaw- though I read some others find it bland. I did not think that at all. I really enjoyed the selection of sauces available at Buckhorn. They have a pump-your-own-sauce station with several types of BBQ sauce, horseradish sauce, ketchup, and spicy ranch. Yum! My favorite was the mustard-based BBQ sauce. Overall, I would totally return to Buckhorn. I could probably lean 4 stars here, but I think it's a better spot for BBQ than many others in my area and in the Roseville area that I've tried.
