This is like a slice of Dallas for me. I loved the OG Taverna on Knox (or at least I think it's the OG) and the Austin location has been pretty consistently good as well. There used to be Toulouse next door, but it has since closed. They're all a part of the same restaurant group. Anyway, I don't think you're here for Taverna's origin story so I recommend the bruschetta for appetizer and Paglia e Fieno for pasta. Super recommend Paglia e Fieno! Yeah I said it twice. My friends and family have ordered other pasta dishes, and they've all been good. They bring out this delicious bread and pesto sauce at the start of the meal too. So good. Come here for a delicious Americanized north Italian meal. read more

Mediocre food at extremely high prices. I came here for a friends birthday dinner and noticed that that's what a lot of people were here for too. We had a rather large party, and it seemed to take forever for us to get service. After everyone had gotten there drinks, it took a while for the bread and orders to be taken. I had one of their pastas (don't remember the name, it started with Paglia) and it was OK. The pasta was a bit too soft for my liking and like other reviewers have said - the food was lukewarm. It tasted like something that I could have gotten at Olive Garden for cheaper. The only good thing that I have to say is that the presentation is nice and the ambience in the restaurant could be a mood. I would much rather prefer to go to North Italia, which offers similar fare in the Domain area at around the same price point. Their food actually tastes a lot better and is more inviting! read more

Oh my...oh my. This is my Austin spot! The belini! The belini! It was soooo good and soooo affordable. Also, the food was tasty. Service was a little spotty. I have to be honest and state that for some reason my food kept coming out cold. I had the chicken and waffles. It came out cold the first time and when they brought it out the second time, cold-warm if that's a temp. Gives me not made fresh vibes. All in all, it was a good brunch. I have been to Taverna multiple times and it has been a great experience each time. Weekend brunches are great here with the $3 mimosas and bellinis making it worth the visit! The chicken and waffles were nice, but nothing to call home about. The California pizza was light and refreshing, almost like a bruschetta. My personal favorite here is the funghi and truffle pizza. Came with a group for a birthday brunch we were worried it would take forever to get a table for a group, but arriving right at 11 ensured a quick seating (by the time we left at 1230 the wait was an hour). I really enjoyed this place! I thought the food was really tasty, the service was good, and the atmosphere was very fun! We came at around 7:30pm on a Friday and waited around 35-40 minutes for a table for 2. We got zucchini chips (with truffle aioli yummm), the short rib and truffle pasta. I thought the zucchini chips were tasty and there were a lot of them. The short rib was incredibly rich, and the pasta was good but I wouldn't get it again because although it had truffle oil it was rather basic besides that! We got 2 cocktails, the aeperol Moscow mule of some short and also the blood orange margarita! The aperitif Moscow mule was great! Blood orange marg was also good but a little out of place at an Italian restaurant in retrospect HAHA. My only complaint was that our water never got refilled and I had to ask, otherwise I thought the service was great, food came out fast, and we had a great time with the music :) read more

I have had phenomenal experiences at every Taverna I've visited and yet again, I have come away with another standout story about their amazing customer service. (This is the 3rd location I've been to--I've also been to the one downtown as well as one in Southern California). I will be bragging about their service and food when I get into work tomorrow, for sure! I visited the Domain location tonight and was, quite frankly, in a pretty bad mood going into the night. We noticed that there was a sign declaring "Stromboli" as the day's special, but when we asked out server, he explained that it was a brunch item and apologized for the confusion. Apparently, it was a breakfast-style stromboli with eggs, cheese, brisket, and spinach with a marinara sauce. It sounded fricken' amazing (who's ever heard of a breakfast stromboli?! What a crazy novel idea!), but we didn't put up a fuss. A few minutes later, he came back over to announce that the chef would happily make us the Stromboli. We were astounded that they would go to such trouble for us and excitedly accepted the offer. My husband got the stromboli and I ordered the carbonara (with mushrooms added, which was amazing!). The stromboli arrived and it was MASSIVE. We'll have leftovers for days. I will say that I thought stromboli was rolled and this one's structure reminded me more of a calzone, but whatever, it was super tasty and such an amazing way to create an Italian/Texas hybrid dish (should we try coining the term, "Italiatex" for this type of thing?). By the end of the night, I was smiling and relaxed--a complete 180 from my mood going in. Trendy stuff yes, but the kind of classic italian cuisine you can get in the family-owned restaurants in Milan/Bologna/..., well, it isn't going to happen. (Mind you, it isn't going to happen pretty much anywhere in the US, w/ the exception of Barano in Williamsburg, NY, but, well, there you go) Anyhow, this is a fairly typical modern American-style Italian resto. The pastas range from ok to plebian (though we've had surprisingly good gnocchi once. Juts once mind you), and the foccaccia is acceptable only when it's warm. That said, the mortadella on the salumi platter is authentic (and rare!), and they have a decent wine selection. So yeah, you can do worse... Oh, Tuesday is "50% off a bottle of wine" day - take advantage of it! read more

I love this place! Up until this week, I had only feasted on their takeout, which is INCREDIBLE and even comes in reusable Tupperware. I very much appreciate this! Dining in person was lovely. Really nice touches like a purse rack that they bring to your table. Service was paced nicely and attentive but inconspicuous, which was appreciated as we were having a lunch meeting. The food is excellent. Every time! I have yet to have anything that I didn't love! Portions are perfect. The bread for the table with pesto is also delicious but don't fill up on it! Actually, do! We were given an UberEats gift card and, while we despise Uber, we used it to get food from somewhere we'd not visit otherwise. Taverna was an impressively delicious treat! We'll definitely be returning. The chef's focaccia was crispy, well seasoned, and even reheated well the next day. The cacio e pepe was different than what we're used to, especially the type of pasta used, but it was flavorful and complex. Eggplant parmesan was delectable and layered like a lasagna. The mushroom risotto was rich, creamy, and flavorful. All in all, we couldn't have been happier with our meal. UberEats, well that's a different story. Restaurant was pretty empty (we ate at 515) so nice and quiet and our serve was absolutely lovely. So helpful and kind. We got the zucchini ships to start, which weren't overly heavy but felt like they could use a bit more salt. I wasn't sure what to get so the server suggested adding shrimp to the burrata risotto. AMAZING. I know, typically you're not supposed to put cheese and seafood together in Italian food but it was delicious. They were skimpy with the burrata but the flavor was so good! I went to Taverna a few months ago to catch up with a friend in from NYC and her Mom. They're like familia to me, so I wanted us all to have a good time. I've been to Taverna on West 2nd several years ago, and was pretty much miserable due to it being the height of Sunday brunch and the tightly packed state of the restaurant. This experience at the Domain was much more comfortable and enjoyable. If you go on Monday or Tuesday, you can score half-off bottles of wine. Which we totally did. This probably explains why I don't remember exactly which delicious risotto dish I ordered. No, wait, I do now. It was the Risotto Con Gamberi E Prosecco, because I remember the shrimp, the lemon confit, and the pine nuts. Yeah, get that. It was fantastic! In summary, if you're looking to impress without totally breaking the piggy bank and can make it on a Monday or Tuesday, Taverna is hands-down the place to go in the Domain. read more

Worst service ever...after ordering and waiting for our food for 30 minutes, a bus boy comes out and asks, "what did you order?" We stated our order and he said they would have it out in another 10 minutes. After 10 mins passed, the manager comes to it and tells us that they don't have any burrata today without any mention about the rest of the order, Would have been useful 40 mins earlier (snide remark kept to myself). Brunch: The Taverna Hash arrived cold with one or two lukewarm spots which quickly went cold as well. The poached eggs were too firm and also cold. Not pleasant to eat. The Americano was weak. The bruschetta had a nice taste, and the tomatoes and basil seemed fresh, but the bread, while it may have once been toasted/grilled, arrived cold, soft and too oily. Crossing this location off my list. Why 3 stars then? The atmosphere was nice. The waitress and staff pleasant. As a first time customer (at this location) I'm giving them some benefit of the doubt. But there are too many other options surrounding this restaurant to really bother trying again. read more

They should be grateful that their food is impeccable or they would've received one star from me. I went on Saturday with a reservation and was not impressed with the service. It was a business dinner otherwise I would have complained to the manager directly. Main concern was they had a bartender tending bar and waiting tables including ours which she repeatedly forgot about. With a seemingly endless amount of other waiters standing around who could have covered a four person table. My significant other and I wanted to grab some cocktails and head home for dinner but once our waiter Massimo, suggested some wonderful entrees we decided to give it try. The food was absolutely delicious and timely, and honestly due to the customer service we thought our meal would be about $200+, but that was just our waiter loving what he does and being very personable and knowledgeable. Upon receiving the check, massimo let us know it was a pleasure serving us and gave us his card which was such a lovely gesture because we would absolutely love him to serve us again. I usually enjoy Traverna, however today they lost me as a customer. I noticed my bill. Among my $180 order for two people, I ordered 2 bourbons neat. 'Neat' meaning no ice, no mixers, room temperature. Traverna thinks that ordering a drink 'neat' deserves a $2 additional upcharge. I brought this up to my otherwise helpful waitress and she said "that's what they charge". Okay, that response and the restaurant's attitude towards devaluing customers was reflected in my tip and I will never go back to Traverna! read more

I went there for happy hour on a weekday and domain was busy as ever but not so much this restaurant. We got house reds which was a cab. The cab tasted watered down but I am not complaining on happy hour wine! It was acceptable. The zucchini chips were great and the rest of the two appetizers we ordered sat pretty on the table but were almost untouched. They did not taste anywhere close to what it looked like. The ambience was cozy and elegant , while the service was impeccable! I may return for a dinner here to check out if that is better. Definitely not going back there for happy hour! read more

The pancetta was burnt in the bucatini alla carbonara, and I had to pick the noodles out of a pool of olive oil. I found this insulting for a $24 pasta dish; burnt pancetta should never be served at that price. Additionally, the portion size was comically small, not that I was able to eat it all given the bitter, burnt flavor. read more

Would not recommend this restaurant. The Service: I sat at my table for 10+ minutes without anyone even addressing us. I finally asked some random worker if we were going to get service which caused the waiter to come over. The host also came over eventually and apologized. I figured he had forgotten to alert the waiter that we were his table. It seems the waitstaff is more interested in socializing with each other than serving patrons at the restaurant. The waiter was inattentive at best. I had to get my own beverage from the bar when I noticed the waiter cutting up with staff for 15+ minutes while ignoring his tables. I mentioned to the bar that my waiter acted like my table was invisible and the bar sent the drinks over. The waiter finally made it to my table to ask how everything was...I told him I got my own beer figuring he'd have to add it to my tab...he apologized and I never saw him again. Then the manager came over and gave some excuses of why the waiter was inattentive. "He was the first one here and had a lot of tables." I told her that I realize she's covering for him, but I've been watching him and he's more interested in socializing than doing his job. She then told me in a condescending tone, "Sir, I know and will address it privately." Well be truthful then! Sorry but when you see groups of staff hanging out and cutting up in the restaurant it looks bad and should be avoided at all times. I've worked in hospitality and restaurants. My former managers would not accept staff standing around talking like it's social hour. Optics are everything. If he had been busy I would have cut him some slack because I've been there...done that. The Food: Meatball sliders were good, but that's where it ended. The chicken parmigiana came "highly recommended" as a special, but wasn't much special about it other than the price. The sauce that accompanied the pasta was akin to Chef Boy Ardee canned Spaghetti O's. My daughter didn't even like it. I ate it and am now paying the price as everyone in my house should social distance from me for the rest of the night. Conclusion: I have had good experiences at the downtown location, but this one missed the mark by a lot and will not get my business again. Mimosas at $2 each are a great deal! Delicious menu and good portion sizes! They serve classic American brunch items (omelets, Benedict's, French toast, and even chicken and waffles on special) but also have a full Italian menu (including pasta) to appease lunch-brunchers. Would not recommend for brunch, dinner is alright. Came here with a group for brunch and we all agreed it would be the last time. The music was far too loud inside with some weird playlist of early 2000s breakup songs (see: When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars) that just did not fit a brunch vibe at all lol. The music being so loud meant our waitress constantly had to pull down her mask for anyone to hear her, which was obviously not COVID-friendly. Our drinks (just two simple carafes of their mimosas and bellinis) took about a half hour to get to our table and the food was really underwhelming. One person in our group had the Burrata Risotto and ended up sending it back after a few of us tried it and all agreed it had no flavor for $22. I ordered the "Risotto special" which said chicken and waffles, dumbly thinking that the risotto special would have risotto in it. See the picture for where the special was listed. The waitress did not explain that the risotto special did not, in fact, contain risotto and was just plain chicken and waffles. I wish I was comp'd for it considering I didn't order plain chicken and waffles, but by this point we'd been there nearly an hour and I didn't want to wait any longer for a different order or have to stop somewhere on the way home. The focaccia (all of the types we ordered) were dry and underwhelming as well, and the wait staff never brought one. Food quality and presentation do not match the price, which was a let down. Water didn't come out until 15-20 min after we arrived after our drinks. I was sad to see that the waitress looked overwhelmed, they seemed understaffed if hosts is helping and additional staff from kitchen is coming out to help catch up on waters.
