Okay they charge me for each ingredient in my drink when the drink is one thing I ordered the fish and chips it did not have a taste this is my first time in this area and my first time here the drink was okay they have great parking really wasn't pleased but I might try it again maybe it was just a bad day Cooks do have bad days I believe next time I will just try a shot and a beer mixed drinks they charge you for each ingredient so a margarita you will get charged for each ingredient a iced tea with your charge for each ingredient so it is more of a shot and beer place also it's a different price for cash and if you use a card!!! read more

Ok. Was told it was on the lake. NO. The lake was across the street and outdoor dining was by the parking lot. No decor to block it off. I found the inside to be dark and very musty smelling. Very nice bar, so I gather they get drinkers. I had the Veggie wrap with black beans and humus. It looked and tasted like mush My friends had the chicken Florentine sandwich on Focaccia bread. We were in the area yesterday and needed a place to watch the knicks playoff game. They were kind and sure they would play the game with sound when we called ahead. There was plenty of space for a party of 4. Just got a few beers, lemonade, and a few apps between the party but they were attentive and it was a nice atmosphere for the game. Tavern on the Lake has been a centerpiece of Hightstown for a long time. They underwent slight renovations and revamped their menu a little. The food still falls within the average, American fare. They have theme nights (Tuesday - Trivia, Wednesday - Karaoke). So, we recently decided to hit up Trivia night and sat at the bar. It has a great local bar feel, which is nice. I ordered the Turkey Special, which was really not special and kind of bland - could hardly find the gravy or cranberry sauce on it. My husband ordered the Chicken Gyro, which was surprisingly good. Living in the area, we know what to expect from Tavern on the Lake. It's also nice during the warmer weather, when you can sit outside. read more

The food is good, the service is GREAT, and the bar area is ideal for a date. The bartender was super nice too, even though we were there on a busy night. Definitely recommend sitting outside if it's warm enough; looking out at Etra Lake is such a nice view to gaze at while you eat. Definitely one of the better places to eat in Hightstown! read more

It has been a while since I have eaten here, The best part of the meal was that they have cleaned up the inside of the restaurant, and you no longer can smell the restrooms from the dining area. That being said we had a great server. But, both my wife and I were disappointed with a simple hamburger. If you can wonder what was wrong with it I will say everything except the roll was good. The burger was luke warm when served, tasteless, dry and overdone. Mmm they have forgotten salt and pepper , and I asked for medium so did my wife, also fried were underdone, In the past I used to enjoy their burgers , they were tasty and juicy. Messed up on one forgivable, but on two, I wonder who was cooking.In addition to which, the meat looked like pieces that were pushed together, not a uniform patty. We went to Tavern on the lake for dinner after my nieces recital last night. A busy Saturday night, we expected it to be busy so there was no issue there. We made a reservation for 10 people well in advance, we thought our reservation was at 7:00, but it was for 7:15, as we were waiting the manager made a comment to me, oh you will have to wait a little bit you came half an hour early, after we had already expressed we thought the res was for 7, but we said we understood we were early and didn't mind waiting. The fact that he had to make a comment was whatever but kind of annoyed me, I let it go. We had a really sweet waitress who was running from our table of 10 to big tables out on the patio, she had to go all the way across the restaurant to wait on all of her tables. We didn't mind the wait we didn't mind the extra time between things because we were enjoying each others company. My sister ordered the tavern burger which comes with bacon on it, her bacon was left off. Our waitress was busy so she told us she had to run to another table and would have someone else bring it out. It never came, so the manager walked by and my sister asked him for the bacon that she's been waiting a while for it. After she got her bacon we saw him "talking" to the waitress about it in a not super nice way. My sister apologized to her and told her she was ok and it wasn't her fault. We then saw the manager yell at her a little bit later. I found out waitress crying!!!! The poor sweet girl, we felt terrible for her. All this to say we enjoyed the food we enjoyed the atmosphere but the manager is a prick. I'd go back if I didn't have to see him ever again. read more

I ordered Carne Asada off of the specials. I asked for my steak medium-well, & instead received a steak so tough I couldn't cut it! The plantains were botched. The rice was okay, & rice pudding was good. EVERYTHING our group ordered needed salt! I exchanged the steak for some grilled chicken. I give two stars because the staff was very kind, patient and attentive to our large group. Christina is great. Came here this past weekend with a large group for food and drinks. There's a nice patio area if you enjoy the outdoors. I spent some time at the bar catching some of the football games. chill environment, the food we had was A+ and the plates for other guess looked good as well. It smelt like a place that college kids would frequent so I was thankful to be sitting outside. Food was okay, drinks were good, the outside seating was great. I don't think this would be a place I would gravitate to if I had to sit inside, dark and stinky.
