Appetizers were the best part of the meal. The grilled calamari was cooked to perfection, very soft and delicious. The roasted potatoes served with them were marvelous. The sweet kale salad was very large, easy to share, and had a nice dressing. The crunch potatoes straws were also a good touch to the dish. So far a great start to the dinner. For entrees we ordered the grilled chicken giardiniera and NY strip. Both of these were subpar and did not live up to our expectations. The NY strip was bland and did not have a nice texture to it. Moreover, the grilled chicken dish was way overcooked and very dry. The chicken itself lacked flavor and did not have much seasoning on it. The only flavor came from the peppers on top. The positive parts of the entrees were the large portions and side of potatoes. The chicken dish came with 3 chicken breasts and a healthy amount of potatoes. Our server was kind, and the restaurant had a nice vibe to it. When I went, only a couple of tables were occupied so it was pretty quiet when I dined in. A few things have been in and out of this spot -- as is the case with many of the locations in the Glen --hoping this one stays. Really nice bar with a few TVs for sporting events -- but I wouldn't' call it a sports bar. Friendly local crowd and attentive bartenders. Menu is an interesting one, with some large and delicious apps. Along the way and through a couple of visits I've enjoyed literally everything I've had there. From the app menu, props for the eggplant stack (unique presentation), the hummus trio, and the octopus -- all of which were solid, all of which were enough to be an entree. The entrees are a range of sandwiches (predictable and good), pastas (loved the mushroom pappardelle), chicken (ok, haven't tried them yet -- can get chicken entrees anywhere!), steaks/chops (the pork chop is excellent as is the skirt steak), and seafood (bravo for the swordfish -- which I don't see around these parts much, and the seafood platter). Service was a little spotty at the tables, but that was at an early visit and perhaps it's been worked out; bar service truly outstanding. Glenview is becoming a more competitive restaurant market with several new entrants (although many of them in the old downtown); hoping this family-owned/operated place succeeds the way it deserves to!. read more

After spending a Saturday afternoon in Glenview, my partner and I stopped into Tavern on The Glen for dinner, and luckily, although we were walk-ins, we got seated right away, although not without a bit of noticeable attitude from a gentleman in boots and glasses. Who I assume was the MOD sized us up and asked if we had a reservation when we entered, and scoffed at us when we said no and grunted something to the hostess who then guided us to one of the high-top tables alongside the bar. Throughout the night, he continued to noticeably shoot glares at our table, which was uncomfortable, but ultimately, I can only assume the Saturday night rush led to stress on his end. This night was quite busy, and the bartender ended up being our server as well, and she was clearly overwhelmed, but every time she was able to make it back to our table, she was lovely and personable. Now let's talk food! We started with the hummus trio and a Greek Cobb Salad to share. Both were good, totally what I would expect from a Suburban joint. I also ordered a Grilled Chicken Sandwich for my main, which again, was good, not great, but hits that suburban vibe if you get what I mean. Like, not mind blowing, but not bad by any means! Located in the heart of The Glen, I would totally stop in again after shopping or spending the day there. Parking is tough. You may have to drive around a bit. Bright and airy. Not loud as most patrons were sitting outside with ample outdoor seating. Like other restaurants along Patriot blvd, there's plenty of outdoor seating. We visited a few weeks ago with a party of five (not the 90s TV primetime soap) but five friends who were supposed to go somewhere else and that place moved out all their tables. So, we made a quick call and there were tables available. We drive a few minutes into the Glen and find parking in a small lot nearby. The restaurant was quite empty for a Saturday night. They had ample seating inside and outside. We were seated inside on the upper level (which is just two steps up from the main floor, so no drastic climb to a second story or anything). They have a very nice menu with a lot of options (see picture). Three people in our group got the chicken parm. They don't tell you this at the restaurant, but three people can share one chicken parm. It is huge! It's the size of the plate itself! And it comes with a side (I think pasta). And it was delicious. I ordered the Char-broiled Skirt Steak. It is wagyu beef - very tender and delicious. However, it's $14 more than the chicken parm and if you like that just as much, you get way more in the latter - which is a way better bang for your buck. Lastly, and the 5th person in our party got the Greek Cobb salad, and again, it was huge, and fresh! Once done and dessert was not ordered because we were all so full from our large meals. However, once we paid our bill, they didn't rush us out as they were open, and many other tables were available; they just let us sit and chat as long as we wanted. They are open until 11pm and didn't rush us out - which is not the norm these days. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, and of course, the food is delicious! This is a hard review to write because the service, once on it, was excellent. But... we had a reservation for 7:00PM. We sat at 7:00 but didn't see a waitress until 7:15 and didn't get a drink until well after 7:30. I will say they were slammed and totally understaffed. When we ordered our first drink at 7:15, we also ordered fried calamari and the sweet kale salad. It didn't show up until almost 8:00!!!! (45 minutes for the app to arrive?!?!) The calamari was a smaller plate than expected but it was soooooooo good!!! Yum! The kale salad didn't have salad dressing, which our server noticed right away and brought us a ramekin of salad dressing. I loved the salad, my husband said the blue cheese was overwhelming. At 8:00 we ordered another round of drinks and our meal. At about 8:25 my husband's skirt steak came out with potatoes and asparagus. (There was a $3 up charge on the asparagus but it was presented as if this was a normal choice for a side). I got the swordfish and it came with BACON. brussel sprouts. The menu didn't say anything about bacon... I don't eat bacon so it went back. I was told the entire meal would be replaced but when the meal came out the swordfish was cold and dry but the Brussel sprouts were great. So ultimately, not too bad but not too good. read more

Went here last minute and sat at the high tops in the bar. They had music (a guy playing a piano and singing) - ambiance is nice. The bartender was really nice, working hard and running around like crazy. They definitely seemed they were short handed. We didn't mind the waiting through the night at all as we were taking our time and in absolutely no rush. In fact it was nice to just enjoy our time and sit etc. Food: very good. And so were the drinks. Everyone loved their meal. The calamari was not great as I got grilled and as my meal not an appetizer. I did think there would be more as the portions of fried calamari are huge. There was three very tiny pieces and mostly potatoes. Also had balsamic glaze on it and totally not needed, but the menu didn't say it and I wouldn't have known to ask to not have it. Also the menu didn't say it comes with potatoes. Burger, chicken Parmesan, and steak sandwich were great. Overall, I would absolutely go back. Nice place! read more

Waters weren't refilled. Service was meh. We had to ask 2 different people for extra aioli WHICH IS ON THE MENU, and neither knew what we were asking for. We gave up and asked for mayonnaise. Skip this one, as most places in The Glen overrated and not worth the hype. The food was nothing special, the best item we had was the eggplant stack. Salad was soggy with chewy chicken, vegetables on hummus trio were soft and bendable (not ideal for celery and carrots), my cousins meal came out 20 minutes after everyone else and the carbonara was definitely sitting for a bit as it was congealed on top, another meal sent back because it was inedible due to the amount of salt. The drinks were awful, old fruit made the taste off putting and waited quite a while before our checks came! Three people, $150 and subpar experience. Was certainly hoping for a better experience and maybe we just went on a bad day, but it was quite a lot to overlook. read more

First time at this restaurant since it was Flight, booked an early Valentine's Day reservation. A limited menu restaurant makes you think the few things they offer should be quite good. My wife and I each selected offerings that were signature to the restaurant, a Wagyu Beef Skirt Steak sandwich, and the Wagyu Beef Skirt Steak entree. With tables of 2 quite close together we quickly met a couple next to us, who had visited the restaurant many times before. The woman told my wife that she always orders the Skirt Steak sandwich and it is great. We began with splitting a Caesar Salad which the kitchen did for us, and was very good. The main course arrived which looked great. However, the beef was so chewy that my wife could not get through even half her sandwich. Cutting my entree into small pieces I got through more of mine, but it arrived cold and the inside strap made the piece of meat tough to chew. When Victoria our server asked how it was, we told her it was tough to chew. Although she offered to take it back to the kitchen, my wife declined. Ironically the woman next to us who orders it all the time was also very displeased with how chewy it was, stating it has never been like this. She took most of her meal home. We are not very fussy and typically never complain, but you would expect to have a manager come over and apologize or offer some concession.
