Grinch Heart Growing Mule and Kaylee

I've been on an extended stay in Williston while working on building a gas plant, and let me tell you, the Tavern at the Grand has become my go-to spot for unwinding after long days on the job. This place is a unique little oasis in the heart of oil country, with a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels like a welcome escape from the hustle. The diverse menu, featuring expertly grilled steaks, burgers, pasta dishes, and award-winning appetizers like their excellent tavern wings, keeps things exciting - no two visits feel the same! The food here is absolutely top-notch. So far, I've tried the cedar plank salmon, which was perfectly cooked with a smoky flavor that paired beautifully with the sides; the bread pudding, rich and indulgent with just the right amount of sweetness; the prime rib burger, juicy and packed with bold flavors reminiscent of their standout prime rib French dip that other guests rave about; and the penne vodka, creamy and comforting with a kick that hits the spot. Every dish has been executed flawlessly, using fresh ingredients that elevate even the simplest meals. It's clear the kitchen, led by the amiable chef Gerald, puts real care into their constantly evolving menu. But what elevates this place to 5-star status is the incredible service from the entire staff. All the bartenders and bar managers are wildly attractive and bring such vibrant energy to the bar - they're attentive, fun, and always quick with a recommendation or a perfectly mixed drink, making you feel like a regular from day one. Kaylee is fantastic, and Bree is an absolute rockstar, handling the crowd with effortless charm and skill. Their energy matches the friendly vibe of the whole team, from the front desk to the servers, who go out of their way to ensure everything is just right. It's the kind of hospitality that turns a good meal into a memorable experience, especially when you're far from home. Pictured here are some of their new seasonal drinks that I highly recommend trying: the Pumpkin Spice Old Fashioned, with its warm, autumnal twist on a classic, and the Grinch Goes Hard, a festive, potent concoction that's perfect for the holidays and packs a delightful punch. If you're in Williston for work or passing through, do yourself a favor and stop by the Tavern at the Grand. Great food, outstanding service, and that cozy bar/lounge setup make it the best spot in town. Highly recommend - I'll be back for more!

I eat here all the time, the food is definitely the best in town. I enjoy the vodka chicken pasta and I usually try the specials. The service is always attentive. Love the large fire place, on cold North Dakota winters. If you haven't been here yet I strongly suggest that you give it try. You will not be disappointed!!

Prime Rib w/ an Old Fashioned. So tasty. Ha

Great service, good old-fashioned cocktail, perfectly cooked ribeye and broccolini. Prices are not low, but quality is high.

Being in the industry for over 20 years, to my surprise the bartender said "let me ask the kitchen, we close in 45 minutes.!' 45 minutes to close shouldn't even be a question to ask the kitchen. Then she came out and said they were still serving and takes off. So we are looking for a place to sit and she says' you can't sit there, there are no servers.' Ok so maybe you should have sat us after you told us you were still serving 45 minutes to close. The service just progressed to get worse. The food itself was pretty good but the portions were ridiculously small. Only one side with main dish and my date ordered the duck and got literally 4 small bite size pieces of meat, $32. My halibut was also very skimpy and the Brussels sprouts were burnt, $38. Not once did the server even come back to ask how the food was or I would have had her get me a different side. I wish I would have taken a picture of the food. The food itself was good, minus burnt Brussels sprouts but it's a good thing we got an appetizer too or we would have still been hungry. The server is lucky my date left 20 because I said to leave 10 and I don't even know if that was deserved. I am in the industry and we always overtip but not in this case when it's more than obvious the server doesn't even want to be there. So all in all it was not a good experience. Overpriced for the portion of food and the service was awful.

H&M's Steakhouse -- A True Five-Star Experience in Watford City…read more Living in Watford City, North Dakota, you sometimes come to expect restaurants to be inconsistent -- service can be inexperienced, food overpriced or overcooked, and timing hit or miss. H&M's Steakhouse is the complete opposite. From the moment you walk in, the service is warm, attentive, and professional. Glasses stay full, staff are welcoming, and your food arrives quickly without sacrificing quality. I've eaten here since they first opened, and to this day I have never left disappointed. The steaks are exceptional -- true top-quality cuts, hand selected, perfectly seasoned, and flame grilled exactly the way a steak should be. In my opinion, these are the best steaks in North Dakota, and I would confidently put them up against Ruth's Chris Steak House any day of the week. The rest of the menu is just as impressive. The HM Pasta will feed a grown man for two days, the sides are generous, and if the baby carrots are on the menu, order them. The desserts are homemade and outstanding -- the crème brûlée is one of my favorites. What truly separates H&M from other restaurants is the ownership. The owners are heavily involved, often cooking the steaks themselves because they genuinely care about quality and consistency. In a town where restaurants sometimes run out of basics, H&M somehow always has the full menu available and ready to go. Another rare quality is how much they value customer feedback. The owners personally address concerns and truly care about the customer experience. And I would be remiss not to mention BJ -- hands down the best waitress in McKenzie County. If you're lucky enough to get her as your server, your evening will be warm, fun, and incredibly attentive. Whether it's a client dinner, large gathering, date night, or takeout, H&M consistently delivers excellent food that is professionally prepared and beautifully plated. My recommendation: Start with the huge shrimp cocktail, order your favorite cut of steak -- the filets, bone-in ribeyes, and New York strips are all outstanding -- add mushrooms, grilled jalapeños, and definitely the baby carrots. Pair it with a glass of wine or cocktail and finish with one of the homemade desserts. Watford City is fortunate to have a restaurant like H&M's Steakhouse. Once you eat here, there's a good chance you won't want to go anywhere else for steak again.

There's also an extensive drink list to choose from The interior has a bar and a dining area. The dining area has out law/western style decor and is a fun vibe They offer complimentary bread and a cinnamon butter that is reminiscent of Texas Roadhouse, but I honestly think this butter is better. The odd thing is we were given the bread almost 30min into us being seated at the table The food was tasty. The chicken fried steak had the option for brown vs white gravy, and they even had colorful heirloom carrots as a side The service could have been better. We waited an hour or more to get our food. Again, the bread came out 30-40min into this wait. Our server never came out to apologize or give updates and after an hour we had to flag down another server to get a status. When we were seated every single one of the booths was empty, and we sat there and watched every single booth fill up, get their food, and leave before we got ours. 4/5 meals came out and one of our group was told "we accidentally made a chicken fried chicken instead of a chicken fried steak, and they're making it now." The rest of us awkwardly waited for 5-10min and decided we didn't want our meals to get too cold. It took at least 15min or more for him to get his meal. Also, I ordered a cocktail and when I was asked if I wanted another I said "maybe in a little bit," and then my server brought another Some tips: They do not have a happy hour menu. Apparently they used to, but they did away with it. Ask for some of their complementary bread and cinnamon butter. The loaded mash potatoes has a strange taste, so, you might want to avoid/substitue that Cheers!!

We ordered the giant pizza pretzel immediately & opted to wait to see just how big it was before choosing a meal. Well, it's "no meal needed even when sharing" big. In the words of my hubby, "this should come with a warning" - pro tip: add the cheese sauce along with the marinara. Yes, it costs extra & totally worth it. It's a soft bread-style pretzel, not the traditional style. Think traditional peperoni pizza shaped like a pretzel. It's tasty! Now, I've seen complaints about no house brews. There were 3 house brews on tap when we were in. I will say you had to look for it on the menu. It wasn't in your face visible on the menu. The hubs tried 2 and said they were ok. I had the Summit Oatmeal Stout and it was deliciously creamy. Stuffed beyond reason, we still ordered the pretzel bread pudding with ice-cream. I was already tapped out and this was another giant serving. He gave it his all but it was another DNF. All in all, service & the food were good & the house beer decent. While the prices seemed high, the portions were huge, making the price per pound reasonable, imo. On exit, the sofa in the den-style seating area caught my eye. I told the hubs to offer them $3k for it... upon reflecting, I'd bump up to $5k - swoon!
