There are a lot of different burger combinations that can be turned into the same amount of options for chicken sandwiches for a small fee($1-I think). The food was good, but they didn't have chicken or walnut patties available. That was a big problem with two vegetarians in our group. The Parmesan garlic fries and various sauces were delicious. Sadly, the service was slow. To make up for this, though, the chef came to talk with us to ensure we would like what we ordered. Sitting at JL beers. Working today so no beer. The pretzel was great and beer cheese dip had a nice mustard tang. Burger was good also. Now... I feel like everything shrunk but me. I wish I could give a review on the food but we never got to place an order. I know they were short staffed and our poor server was running her tail off. It's a Saturday night on Memorial Day weekend, not a good time to be short staffed. But it happens. I get that. We were very understanding. We patiently waited for our menus, which took at least 15 minutes. She did take our drink order then but it was at least another 25 minutes before they were delivered. By that time, the beer had been sitting long enough that the head was completely dissipated and the glass was only 3/4 full. I could have even overlooked that due to how busy she was. But she set down our drinks, apologized for the delay and for my beer being 3/4 full and then turned around and left without taking our food order. And she never returned. We had certainly had our menus long enough to know what we wanted so I can't imagine why she didn't take our order while she was at our table with the drinks. We gave up after about an hour. By that point it was 9:30 and we were afraid that if we did catch her long enough to get our order placed, we might not see our meal for another hour. It was just too late and we had been sitting there way too long. It seems to me if that since they were so short staffed, they should have closed the patio area. It's impossible for one server to handle food and drink orders and delivery, payments, and table bussing for two separate areas. Nothing was getting done well. I don't blame the server. I believe this is a fail on the part of management. Failure not just for JL Beer's customers but also for their employees. read more

I do love JL. I first started going to the one in Bismarck (much better). But any time I'm up here doing work, I stop in. The beer selection is pretty good, with a solid amount of local taps. The burgers are very tasty. The fries should've been better, but were floppy and greasy, but the fry cook also looked like they didn't care to actually be cooking. In fact the whole staff looked like they didn't want to be there, be part of the service industry, or even take people's orders. The waitress I had was very clearly much more interested in her phone than me. And when she did finally give me attention, she was annoyed. I worked in the industry for years, and this was bad. I didn't even get a "thanks for coming in" or anything. This would absolutely get 5-stars if the service was better. read more

We just moved to Watford city, ND. We love burgers and as soon as we came in to JL Beers, a server told us to leave because It was adults only, and we couldn't be there with our 9 month baby. we requested to seat outside and they told us that whole restaurant/bar is only for adults. All I really wanted this late morning was coffee and wifi. Due to the extreme paucity of choices in Watford City I ended up here and was very happy I did! One of their topping options here is fried egg, so I got as close to breakfast as I could with coffee and a mushroom-swiss burger with a fried egg and just-fried potato chips.
