I've eaten at Tavern 242 in Morrison at least five times for both dinner and brunch, and it's become one of my go-to spots. For apps, the fried avocado is my favorite (Mexican street corn, Cotija, bacon, chipotle aioli) and their deviled eggs are a nice, reliable choice too. The star of the show is the 242 Smashed Burger (their brisket + short rib blend) is incredible -- juicy, flavorful, and consistently well-executed. Might be the best burger I've had. I've also loved the meatball sub and on another visit enjoyed the short ribs -- all solid entrees. Portions are generous and the menu has a lot of thoughtful, tasty options. Service has been consistently good on every visit -- friendly and attentive staff who keep things moving without feeling rushed. Owner Dave is always welcoming when he's around, which makes the place feel community-oriented and genuine. Heard from a friend that I must check out Tavern 242 because they loved it so much. And today was the day! My friend and I were blown away with the excellent service, food and atmosphere. We decided to share everything we ordered. We began with drinks - the Pear & Proper, the 'FED' and Athletic Golden (NA). All were fabulous. Next the Deviled Eggs, wonderful. Next the Tavern Wedge, flavorful. Bacon Mac & Cheese with Short Rib, tasty & OMG I just have to come back for the dinner Short Ribs! Then the Short Rib & Ricotta Tavern Style Pizza. It was good but a bit too much arugula for me (which I found out later from the chef we could order less of that next time). We ended our feast with Tavern Carrot Cake & Deconstructed Banana Cream Pie, both to die for. The chef even stopped by our table to see what we thought of our experience and food. I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner! The area so needed a place like this. "Elevated scratch kitchen sports tavern" as others have described is accurate. It was really busy at 6 on a Friday as one would expect, and they were a little short-handed, but didn't miss a beat. It's a sports bar vibe in terms of noise and lots of TV's, so if you're looking for a quiet dinner, this is not the spot, but it's a fun vibe! The food and the service were awesome! Our waiter was fantastic and the manager stopped by to check in. The menu is unique, and the food is fresh, delicious and well priced. I had the short ribs, which were incredible, my husband had the "chowda" and daughter had the kids cheeseburgers. We all loved it! Definitely will be a regular. read more

This place really is excellent. Today, my husband and I tried the wings. We ordered extra crispy and they were perfect. I liked all three sauces we tried -- the dry rub, house bbq and Buffalo. With each 6 wings you order, you can get a different sauce. My husband liked the Buffalo best, but he is a purist when it comes to wings. Each one was perfectly crisp and drizzled with balsamic glaze. A giant portion so we ended up taking half of it home. Next we had the buffalo chicken egg rolls. These were good however it seemed to be mostly a Buffalo style cream cheese with very few prices of actual chicken inside. For our entrees we ordered the 242 smash burger and Cajun chicken Alfredo. The smash burger was delicious and I loved the weird cut of fries. The chicken Alfredo has a mild kick from the Cajun seasoning and the bacon and cheese was good. I noticed it wasn't really a true Alfredo sauce but still delicious. The Hugo spritz was refreshing for a mid afternoon drink. We stopped here for a bite to eat before a concert at Red Rocks and we loved it all so much that this is now are go to stop before all concerts! Our server Taylor was amazing and made the experience that much better! I ordered the schilling cider in a can but he poured it in a chilled glass for me, made it taste that much better! Delicious and crisp. For my meal I ordered the rotisserie chicken Sammy because Taylor said they were known for their rotisserie chicken and I had to try it. I was honestly left speechless with how good it tasted. The chicken was tender and so flavorful. The Cesar salad paired so well with it, never would have thought to pair them together and the bread was moist and sweet. Just utterly delicious, left me wanting more. The fries were even cooked perfectly, crispy and delicate. We shared the brownie sundae after and it was the perfect sweet treat after such an amazing meal. We arrived around 4:50pm on a Tuesday so no wait for a table and the food came very quickly. The atmosphere is trendy with a mix of sports bar. Liked all the screens playing different sports but also the place felt upscale and the service was definitely upscale. We were pleasantly surprised with the price of the food as well, our bill was under $60 for 2 drinks, 2 meals and 1 dessert. Highly recommend this place and we will be back! First of all you are gonna get a bang for your buck here. Portion size is nice ! So here are some very small suggestions I had Oysters Rockefeller. Before you serve them detach from the abductor muscle. Also the arugula was good but maybe dress them lightly with migonette? Just makes sense right? The French onion soup? Really tastey but you may have the wrong vessel. Put that thing in a circular thing and melt the cheese over the side....it's fun scraping the cheese off the side of the ramiken. It's what makes it. Finally on your chowder...steam.the halibut. Mine was hammered. Make it soft and cooked perfectly (mine wasn't it was over) and come up with some crunchy element on top. Thus is one man's opinion. Tavern 242 is a great addition to the neighborhood. We've been wowed both times we've visited. First, the space is gorgeous. I love when the small details are attended to. It's always the little things. For me, the richness of the wood paired with a minimal, slight industrial feel is perfect. We've visited for drink specials and also shared a meal. Both were fantastic visits. The wait staff have been laid back but attentive - like a friend you've known forever. The meal was great as well - a smash burger, street corn, poutine and tacos. We'll def return for this but we're also got our eye on the pizza. We discovered a smooth tequila here too. Thank you, Nathan! Opened last Friday 18 @tavern_242. Owned by the same husband and wife team who owns the cute @coweatery in Morrison. This is located in the same enviable location where Home Depot is. It sits in a little hill. This much needed addition to the town of Morrison area has great rotisserie chicken. The two veggie sides were amazing. The Smash Burger was moist and tasty! New tavern in the area and had to try! Service was good and the en iroment was hopping. Claimed to be a sports bar and they had plenty of TVs! The place was busy at 515 on a Saturday but didn't have to wait long at all. The prices aren't horrible but the kids mac n cheese at $10 was a bit high. We tried the balsamic glazed short rib and ricotta pizza. Be prepared for a LOT of ricotta... almost to the point that you couldn't taste much else. Crust was pretty good and I'm sure it'll be even better on a red sauce pizza without ricotta. Beer, wine, and cocktail selection is fair for the size of the establishment. read more

Went for lunch today. The place was fairly busy for a Friday afternoon. I had the adult grilled cheese and my with had the rotisserie chicken Sammy. They both came with fries. We split the sandwiches so we could have 2 opinions for each. They were both very good. The chicken Sammy was seasoned very well and the shredded chicken was most and flavorful. The adult grilled cheese was filled with cheese and bacon. I took out the tomatoes but my wife like the flavor combination. The fries are epic. Not your typical fries you get at most restaurants. French Onion Soup - don't mess with a classic. It was basically an onion stew. Swiss cheese slices for the cheese. Croutons for the baguette??? The bowl is all wrong. Too shallow. So the 'soup" cooled rapidly. Salad - Looked good. Very large serving of soft what seemed like left overs from the night before?? None of the 3 people that got it ate any after the first bite or 2. Mac and cheese - ok nothing special. Whole Foods version on the hot bar is better. Bread - sour dough right from a bagged loaf. Disappointing. This place is newer. I have eaten here 2x in the last 2 weeks and the food is ok. Nothing extra in anyway. In fact, my last visit was very disappointing. Arrived at 1p and both my friend and I ordered the Chicken Alfredo. It came out room temperature! We made waitress aware and she took our plates back to the kitchen which always makes me nervous. Meals came back hot so we continued with our lunch. The sauce had a good flavor but the peppers were scarce. More peppers and a nice crispy piece of garlic bread would have been a added touch. Waitress needed to be asked twice for salt and pepper, and new utensils. We were comped a large piece of carrot cake that was loaded with yumminess but the outside was starting to dry out from being cut and sitting out? I've been here a few times already... excellent food, great staff, and tasty drinks. We visited last night and our server Isabel was absolutely outstanding. She's personable, lots of energy, makes eye contact as she speaks with you, shares the specials to every single table; she is overall just an awesome server. We had the buffalo egg rolls, Chicken Sammy, and fish fry. Everything was very good. I love the chicken Sammy (second time getting it) I'm so glad we have another dinning option in this neighborhood! Also, I did want to comment on your host; not sure what his name is, but he's super friendly, greets every single guest and then is constantly "looking busy" (remember those days as a host), wiping down the windows, the menus, straightening things up... he is great! Still in their infancy, so I'll cut them some slack. A good friend of mine met me for lunch here last Friday. The place was buzzing. A great sign that they are doing well. We were seated and I ordered a salad and he ordered the fried fish. We both had soft drinks. The waitress was very pleasant. He also ordered some potato soup to take home to his wife. It came out and was looking pretty watery. He asked for a box for his leftovers and requested a side of tartar sauce. We waited. And waited. She brought out the check and he pay the bill. We waited a few moments longer and the tartar sauce finally came out. Not a big deal and the food was good. It's already a successful spot in a good location. First visit today for happy hour and light dinner. We sat in the dining room to the west in the front booth. Upon arrival it was half empty but already very loud. Within a short period of time, the wood booths are painfully uncomfortable because of their shape, and no padding on the seat or back. We were in and out in 30 minutes and both experienced pain and stiffness. Don't sit in a booth. We had one drink each and split 4 appetizers. Our server Brittany (Hamer) was outstanding, and our food came out fast. We also noticed managers wandering around asking guests how they are doing to make sure all is well. We nodded our heads yes. Then we received our food. The food was not great with only 1 in 4 appetizers worth eating again. Worth eating again...The best dish was fried avocado on a bed of Mexican street corn and bacon succotash. This is likely their signature appetizer being both wildly creative and simplistic at the same time. Great flavors. The Caesar salad and the dressing tasted like a jar of mayo with some faux horseradish (?) added for flavor. Missing was garlic, anchovy, lemon, Worcestershire, salt and taste. Just the worst. This dressing needs to be scrapped. Lettuce was innards (white parts) of romaine hearts (zero green). It was lifeless. Don't order it. Baked oysters "Rockefeller" was a joke. No spinach, garlic, cheese, herbs, butter sauce, bacon, lemon. No fragrance. Other than a light sprinkle of panko crumbs on top, they were plain broiled oysters. They were completely tasteless at 5 for $18. Don't order it. Fried Brussel sprouts with a balsamic drizzle and an odd cauliflower puree as the dipping sauce / topping (mostly on the side) is a creative combination. But the brussels sprouts are fried to obliviation; burnt, black and beyond redemption (100% burn with no soft inner green). I would estimate most people would temporarily enjoy the flavor but have a big belly ache after consuming (me). Plating two cruciferous vegetables is a bit much for the average digestive system. Don't order it. Other things to note. They demonstrate a huge commitment to excellent service, the menu is creative, and the restaurant is extremely clean. And there is no loud music (yay). It is in a convenient location directly east off C470 and Qunicy. Would we eat there again? My boyfriend says yes. I say no. It is a big menu so if you steer clear of the menu items I mentioned above, it may be worth a visit. P.S. - My roommate ate there a few weeks ago and had the halibut on potato bacon chowder and she LOVED it. read more
