Went in the morning for brunch. Place was empty and the service was decent; quiet environment. However, the food was disappointing and took half an hour to come. The pork dumplings were cold and hard, plus the soup dumplings had no... soup. The beverage prices were also misleading, as there was a sign stating that one quart of tea was $5. For reference, 1 quart is equal to 4 cups, and we ended up paying $5 for each cup (8oz) rather than $5 for each quart (32oz). Overall, the ambiance and service are alright, but the food and wait times are definitely not worth the price. read more

I live and New York and love Chinese food. I had the beef chow fun and my girlfriend had the kung pow chicken. The chow fun reminded me of how my mom would make it. If you're unwilling to travel to another neighborhood and insist on Chinese, then Golden City on 9th & 34th is a better choice though only by the slimmest margins. I came here today for their weekday lunch specials (until 3pm) and got a choice of entrée w/ rice and soup (or egg roll) for $9. I went with the shredded pork in garlic sauce w/ wonton soup. A more accurate description would have been bell pepper with fatty strips of pork and dough ball soup. I've never eaten lower quality pork or more doughy wontons. The mixed veges with the pork was primarily bell peppers and mostly undercooked. I also got their "juicy pork buns" which is their way of naming Xiao Long Bao (aka soup dumplings) for $9. These were the doughiest versions I've ever had and I was provided no utensils other than a standard metal fork and spoon so it was a bit of a challenge on how to pick up and eat these. The service, prices, and space was ok but I definitely wouldn't come back when there's much better food in the area. read more

REAL TIME DINNER REVIEW! TL; DR: I'll order again...when on someone else's or the company's dime, since they're serving up some good stuff! Never went due to the reviews being all over the place, and not being about those prices, even in the area. Gave them a whirl tonight for s's, giggles and laziness. I'm actually pretty glad I did! Their hot & sour soup is BOMB! Nice initial flavor, with both the flavor composition and the heat growing as you enjoy...I even worked up a little sweat from the nice heat that lingered. Really delicious stuff! Also really enjoyed their shrimp mei fun. Noodles had nice bite, just enough wok oil used to coat the noodles without making it saucy or cloying. Perfect consistency to every bite. But they're charging around $16 when they're using the same wee frozen shrimps you get in shrimp fried rice from your area hole in the wall. Decent amount of shrimp throughout...but for that price there better be shrimp in every bite, they better hold together (some of these broken in half when mixing...), or some larger crustaceans used for better presentation. Solid 3.5-star option rounded down because their prices are just too high for their kind of establishment (delightful step above even your best neighborhood Chinese take out joint...but $5.50 for a SMALL hot & sour soup...and $10.95 for six...SIX cheese rangoon [read: no crab or lobster in the description]?)... My friend and I are always shopping for good Chinese delivery. Taste kitchen is a two thumbs up. First of all, the lady taking my order was super nice and double checked my order and cc # before hanging up. Maybe it's just me but I've had pretty crazy convos where I would call, order and all they asked was for the address (while they speak 100 words per sec). I had to call back to give them my cc #. So compared to that, this place was awesome. Delivery didn't take long (sorry I didn't time them or anything or ask them for the estimated time). We ordered the egg drop soup, egg rolls, house special chow fun, pan fried noodles and pancakes. Maybe they added this because they just newly opened but we also got a $5 discount card for our next order, orange slices and a container of kimchi! All for free. I personally had the egg roll and chow fun. I enjoyed both! Egg roll is veggie so all you vegetarians, you're good! Chow fun could have had a little more flavor but it wasn't greasy as ones I've tried prior. So that's always a plus. Oh, I had the pancakes too. Nothing special (clearly since I forgot I ate them). My friend said the egg drop was too eggy. But if you like eggs, thumbs up! We'll def order from this place again!!! One downside, I think it closes at 10pm. Came here for a quick dinner before the show, the place was empty the whole time, I was the only customer during dinner hour. there are separate menu, one in english with typical Americanized Chinese food, but the chinese menus has some authentic dishes. the food is ok, a little bit lack of flavor and i'm not sure why they use so much potatos in the food, maybe that way they do not need to have so much meat in the dishes. I had eaten at Taste Kitchen on 36th, right next to Abaya Thai, and had tried the lunch special. The lunch specials are all served with a choice of hot & sour soup, egg drop soup, egg roll or cheese wonton, I selected the egg drop soup which was solid. For the meal I chose #L2. fish fillet with black bean sauce, it was very good and tasted fresh, with a decent portion of about five slices of fish. The green tea ice cream however, was not enjoyable, and for $3.95 I recommend passing on this dessert, thankfully the fortune cookie made me feel better and remember how good the food was. My standard for good green tea ice cream is a creamy and consistent texture where the taste comes through, this one was very icy and poorly prepared. The waitress and manager did a very good job and were efficient and friendly, I removed one star from the rating for the dessert but otherwise I would give this place a perfect score. I read several bad reviews of Taste Kitchen, one of which was written by a "Mike R.," talking about the poor service, specifically about the delivery man. Mike mentioned ordering the food, checking the order upon arrival to ensure everything was there, and mentioning that they forgot the soda. Once he told the delivery driver this, the driver was yelling and screaming, telling this customer "call the boss!" He returned with the coke even angrier, yelling about the time and pointing at his watch. As a delivery man, this type of behavior is highly unacceptable and the fact that there are multiple reviews describing the same type of behavior is not good for business. The management as well issued a very bad apology to the customer "Melissa B.," who mentioned the same type of angry, yelling behavior from (presumably the same) delivery man. "Qin L." who answered as a representative of management essentially made excuses for his poor behavior saying he was busy and backed up, implying that the customer should be aware of this and expect to wait longer than they were told they would wait as well as deal with unpleasant and mean behavior, which is again unacceptable as well as highly unprofessional on management's behalf. The problem is a lack of communication and code of conduct enforcement between management. Management should have all employees understand proper behavior and etiquette to ensure workers do not treat workers impolitely and unprofessionally (as this leads to bad business/lost customers) and should further ensure that at least one employee at all times of service speaks or at leasts understands fluent enough English to be able to meet all order instructions and to communicate between customers and delivery workers. If they followed these guidelines, I believe they would have at least a 4 1/2 star rating, rather than their current 3 1/2 stars. read more

Soup buns are great! The hot and sour soup has a lot of black pepper flavor but the quantity of stuff in it (mushrooms, tofu, etc.) makes up for that. The service is friendly and very accommodating. The brisket soup with udon noodle was sooooooo good. Has lots of meat, tasty bok choy an the depth of flavor in the broth is spot on! My wife had the beef and broccoli. Delivery man appeared to be drunk or having some sort of meltdown. Called me yelling non stop (as I was trying to come downstairs to let him in...my office doesn't allow them to come up to floor 12). When I got to him he was still yelling incoherently. He kept lifting his hand like he might hit me, or something. Also, I just discovered a voicemail from him in which he is literally just cussing. I just had the General Tso's lunch special and it was great. I received large chunks of delicious and fresh chicken, which were very flavorful and hot! You know those tiny pieces of unidentifiable fried garbage that you get in between bites when you order GT's? NONE of that here. The large wontons in the soup I ordered were delicious as well-not very much meat, but the quality of the noodle made up for it. The staff was also very friendly and went the extra mile. Please don't bore me with agonizing over the identity of your "authentic vs. inauthentic" Chinese cuisine.
