Great bakery and Cafe. I haven't had Baklava this good, even in Istanbul. Simits (Turkish bagel) and pides are also great.

Over the years, I feel like they have raised prices consistently. However, that does not deter from the fact that I love the meat borek (kiymali) so much. As a matter of fact, I crave it occasionally and drive 25 minutes to get my hands on them. I usually buy about 4 packages of them because I am able to microwave leftovers and eat it for lunch for a few days. Still tastes great after days! read more

The bread here is insanely good. We were a fan when it was just a basic bakery that only the locals and stores knew about. It was a hidden gem (ironically the other hidden gem in the area, Toros, is across the street). They redid the place and all I can say is WOW is this place magical. We make the drive from NYC to this bakery about once every two months and stock up on ALL the baked goods, as well as, the sweets. The breads and foods are all made on premise by real people who know and understand the food! We are Turkish and love this place as it is the only place that serves every single thing your imagination could want or think of. In addition, the service is attentive and professional. We found it at Taskin and have enjoyed Taskin Turkish baked goods ever since. Beside pide, We love their borek...spinach and cheese is our favorite ... and often get a sweet dessert. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. My first visit to Taskin Bakery to try their famed Baklava sparked an internal struggle. I had made the journey all the way to Paterson NJ but paused upon reaching the storefront. It was obvious that their target clientele was restaurants and ethnic general stores as dozens of packages of Pide, flower bread, round bread, breakfast goods like Simit (Turkish bagel), Acme/Pohaca, and various kinds of Boreks (cheese, potato, spinach) were lying around. However, in one half of the room were various kinds of sweet and savory cookies, Baklava, Sekerpare, Kadaif, and a few other desserts. As I walked up to select the Baklava, I noticed that inside the display case was a fly, right on top of the tray, rubbing its legs with glee. I hesitated and decided instead to get a pre-packaged box. True to Psychology's dictate of "Suppress now, obsess later", I couldn't get the image out of my mind and didn't enjoy the Baklava as much, preferring the texture and flavor of the Sekerpare instead. But, it bothered me - for I had seen Purell dispensers around the retail storefront, and the helpful servers were wearing plastic gloves. Surely, one fly wasn't going to deter me from appreciating "the Best Baklava around" - as per Turks whose judgment couldn't be doubted. So, I made my way back - and was happy to find only two legged creatures between me and the Baklava. While I've never enjoyed any of their other baked goods on display - the Pistachio Baklava was a piece of art. As I sent the picture to a foodie friend she texted immediately: "Mmm!! Is it as good as it looks?" I responded back, "It's structurally perfect. Layers and layers of dough, some nuts, syrup... shatter of crisp dough, nice sound. Obviously fresh. " Seriously, the construction is just top notch. While you don't get hit in the eye with the syrup as is the case with most Greek versions of Baklava in the city, it's just amazing that as your teeth go through the layers n layers of dough, and nuts and reach the syrup - it hits the roof of your mouth. You couldn't even tell its presence till that last second. I wish they could do this consistently across all the versions of Baklava, but the Pistachio one is almost perfect. Not the best I've ever had (where the fork goes cleanly across all the layers for the entire piece and doesn't cause the roof of the baklava house to slide off its nutty inhabitants or the basement to be flooded), but definitely my favorite Baklava around.... Their service level would get the gold medal by far if there was a "worst food service competition" around the world. Think twice and stay away from this business since they promise to serve in 5 mins but it takes 30 minutes beside I had to ask 4 times, worse than that is they still call you to pickup the food regardless of the shame they did. Since its just normal to them. Moreover, no wifi no cellphone reception just like there is no humanity. Last but not least, I was talking to the manager about my complaint, I said, listen, I ll either review you guys on google or you will listen to me now since you guys ruined my day, he said okay i will be right with you but never stop by in the next 30 minutes. This was my first time in this bakery. My experience was worth sharing. I m a huge fan of Baklava, if you are in the mood for fresh, plenty of pistachios on baklava, then this is the spot for you. I also got Spinach/cheese borek- wish it had more stuffing in it on. It was a little empty inside, and dough outside tasted a little oily for a Borek. Turkish delights! Their Turkish bread and confections are awesome. It is always fresh and most of the time, still warm from the oven. Stocked up on their bread today. No fat, sugar etc. their white bread sliced loaves are only 28 calories per slice! Backlava is the best in NJ. They have it 5 different ways, all dripping with honey. I try to get to Taskin's regularly. Since I changed jobs it has meant making a special trip. Today I had to go to Union City so I detoured to Taskin's. The bread is the kind that's crispy outside and soft an chewy on the inside but not dense. Make sure you get the package of 4 round loaves as well as the 2 foot long flatbread. They also have cheese, spinach and meat filled breads and rolls that are perfect for breakfast or lunch. The bakery has both halal and kosher certifications, but read the ingredients for yourself. The expanded facility has more to offer than the small, single counter used to. I saw numerous sweets in the counters today but I usually hop over to Main Street in Paterson when looking for baklava. Prices are so reasonable, but parking is awful. Take advantage of their 24/7 hours and enjoy! read more

HORRIBLE customer service. Today I went in to get a mini cake since my daughter wanted one. They have this mini cafe looking new look. I was on line to order my cake the cashier kept taking the old ladies that were behind me. I let it slide for the first one but the second one I FLIPED OUT! and when I said " do I look invisible to you ?" The employee rolled her eyes and said fine your next. I liked this place more when it was a simple bakery shop. Now with seating (self service), I didn't like it that much but will give another try later on. The sweets (eclair etc) are average. There was tiny pistachio shell in the eclair. The börek/pogaca/gözleme is also. The only good iş simit. Also you pay as soon as pickup your food. And there is $15 minimum for credit cards at the register. So if you want to buy a water or tea later on , you can't pay with card and since they don't open tab you don't have the chance of paying altogether at the end. But NO it was hard as a rock when i brought it home to eat. And tonight we brought cake for our 2 year old because she wanted some and NOPE to my horrible surprise the cake was hard as a rock too! This place opened their cafe newly how is cake hard as a rock no quality ive had better cake from shoprite. Amazing bakery and cafe. Everything is fresh. Breads, Turkish pizzas, cookies, etc taste great. Prices are also very low so you can try several things and get bread to go. Tip - bread has NO preservatives so I would freeze it if you are not going to eat it in one day. I would like to see more coffee types than just regular, hopefully they will get an espresso or Turkish coffee machine soon. Fireplace and comfortable furniture is also a nice touch. There are many ethnic food stores in the area, even if you don't live close, it's worth coming here once a week to get groceries nearby and eat deserts or savory foods at Taskin. read more
