I've been coming to Target Optical for a few years now and I feel like I always have a pretty good experience. The best part is Dr. Liu! She is so kind, helpful and knowledgeable. She really knows her stuff and cares about her patients. From my understanding, all the Drs at Target Optical are independent contractors, while the store is owned or contracted by Luxotica, which also owns companies like Oakley, Sunglasses Hut, etc. So, sometimes the frames are a bit pricey, however they typically have discounts, and you'll get an auto $10 off if you sign up for their newsletter and various discounts throughout the year. The other highlight of my experience was they use the optomap retina scanner. It is an amazing piece of technology. The doctor explained to me that it scans 20 layers deep into the eye and can show any health issues, like diabetes, glaucoma, cancer, etc. It is much easier than getting your eyes dilated and removes the need to add chemicals into your body. THERE'S A NEW DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE! Dr. Wek has taken over this location and I had the absolute pleasure of being one of the first patients as today was her first official day at this location. From our conversation I learned that she is quite experienced having worked in the field for many years and having been a partner with Target Optical in multiple locations throughout southern california. Her bedside manner was a 10/10, the conversation was light hearted while still focusing on why I was there, and the prescription that I left with actually feels like I am getting something better. I appreciate that Dr. Wek had an approach of working WITH me to find the best prescription based on my comfort rather than just telling me what I needed and kicking me out. The eye doctor was kind and courteous but kept checking her cell phone during my daughter's eye exam and was distracted by her phone the few times we had questions "huh? What? Oh" were the responses we were getting. I've been getting my eyes checked at various places over the last 15 years and this was the first place ever that the employee refused to tell me my pupillary distance because I wasn't buying my frames there. Never mind that we were getting my daughter's frames there the same time. I typically get my prescription and then order glasses online because I'm a single mom and can't afford expensive frames. I had my eyes checked at target in San Diego and they gave me my pupillary distance with no issues. We were also told it would take 5-7 days to get my daughters frames which we were excited about because she needed them as soon as possible. I understand things happen but it took a month to receive them and we had no communication from them regarding the delay. We had to keep calling every 2 weeks with no update. read more

I was impressed by Target Optical's Dr. Christine Liu, OD. She took time with me, and understood my need for reading glasses knowing that my left eye vision is different from my right eye's vision. She explained in detail the results of my tests. She was very clear and took time to answer my questions. This Target displayed various eyeglass frames--just as many as other optometry stores. I had a horrible experience with Dr Christine Liu. I don't usually leave reviews but please go elsewhere for your exam. My prescription hasn't changed in over 8 years. The prescription she wrote was completely off causing blurry vision and migraines. I had to go back several times only for it to be written as my original prescription. She doesn't listen to her patients and she lied straight to my face about not having contact samples for me to try before I ordered. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. We three have been coming here for years but now we are done. Two of us went to have our prescription updated. The Target employee was visibly disappointed that we were not going to purchase frames and the vibe was off from him for the rest of the encounter. Dr Liu asked us way too many times if our son wanted contact lenses, we declined every time. Once in the exam room Dr Liu offered two free pair of contact lenses and our son accepted. We finished up and when presented with the bill it had gone up a lot since last time, which had expected a bit due to everything going on, I didn't check the itemized receipt until we got home. I found she had charged us for the contact lens exam that we had declined over four times. It seemed shady so I called her, and her remedy was to bring back the free (opened) contacts and she would refund the extra exam cost: $60. Instead I am leaving this review and will probably never come to this Target store again. I just hope the prescription is correct. read more

OMG!!! I have coming to Target Optical for about last 2 years. I believe the guy Omar was fantastic and helped me tremendously. He found me coupons and would call me when he knew I was out contacts. That was awesome!' I was willing to pay prob $20 more for contacts because of their service. Well now at the two year mark. I call in for exam and I don't get Omar, which concerns me. I go in for my Eye Exam..., new doctor, never met her, Asian woman, can't remember her name. I sit down for first exam. She never introduces herself. I go to take my contacts out and she sits me down with standing mirror so I can take my contacts out. Mirror has fingerprints, grease marks, all over it and I can't even get a good visual to take my contacts out. So then, I put my eyes up to that exam where you look at ballon's. Etc. And the peripheral vision test, all ok. Then I go into her exam room where she tests me & continually asks which one is better using right and left eye, as she changes lense strength. I said to her that everything looks a little cloudy or out of focus. She says hold on..,, takes the equipment away from my face and eyes and sprays and cleans it!! It was like night and day, but what that told me, is that they aren't cleaning their equipment. So that just sealed the deal.... I told myself at end of exam that I'm never coming back here again. It's up to the Doctor to clean equipment in between patients!! I was there in afternoon.... I could only imagine all the patients that went through there for exams that day & how dirty the Mirror were and all the Covid going around and this friggin doctor didn't even know how to clean equipment after use!!!! I'm in the Medical field and it's called INFECTION CONTROL!!! I was so upset and swore I'd never go back but I still called to at least order my contacts. Since last time I ordered 3 MONTHS AGO..,,,, The Price went up $50!!!! So forget it!!! I'm going back to Costco!! Target is great otherwise, but their Optical went so downhill!! Oh my goodness. Dr.Liu is the cream of the crop for optometrist. Not only does her optometry have the most advance machines I have ever seen but during the check up I must of said I am not sure which version is better a thousand times. But that never annoyed Dr.Liu she would just patiently and kindly say, "I know, so close right?" and repeat. I felt very cared about and reassure in her presence. I asked so many questions after my appointment and she expertly answered them all. I wouldn't trust my eyes to anyone else! Also, before going to Dr. Liu's optometry I have never once like a single pair of glassed I've purchase. I've always settled for the best of the worse that my insurance would cover for me but here there is such a wide selection I have a hard time just choosing one pair I like. Decided to switch my eye doctor as I had a bad experiance with my previous eye doctor. Saw that target optical took my eye insurance. Irene made it so easy and convinient to book my appointment. Dr.U made me understand exactly what was going on with my eyes. I found some glasses I liked and Irene made it so easy to purchase. She promised 1 to 2 weeks and she gave me a call in a couple days. While Dr. Lui is terrific, this location is run poorly. If you need to pick up your glasses or contacts or drop a RX, DO NOT go on a Monday or Thursday. Even if you get a text saying your glasses are ready, don't waste your time. I have been on these days, and each time the gate is closed. No matter the time, they are closed/"lunch". I have even called to check if they are open and the recording states 10:00-8:00. I have left a message requesting a call to ensure they are open. I have wasted 1.5-2 hours on different days in the store in hopes that they will open. It's a long lunch when you are responsible for opening the business. While Dr. Lui is terrific, the other service is not. Last, when I did get in on a Sunday to get my daughters RX filled for glasses, I was upsold . I wanted the simplest lens, no uv coating, scratch resistant, no warranty. Kid does not drive, does not need anti reflective, coating, or a warranty, as her RX changes quickly $200. I asked 3 different times why is the lens bro expensive? She just added in all the extras without asking if they were necessary and then didn't remove, I had to ask three separate times to finally get them all removed. Then she asked me to sign a note, saying I know I am just getting plastic lenses. Seriously...she must be working each customer hard, because she is never open so has to make up the business in a short amount of time. Price went down 40% to $110. read more

I went on Christmas Eve and was told that there was a mix up on the delivery and I stress the point, I had to go physically to Target and ask about my son's eye glasses. The employee apologized and told me that they would call me when they have the glasses and apply a discount. I got a call later that day and was told my son's glasses were found by the shipper and would be delivered to Target that day. I was told to stop by at my leisure. Dr. Liu is perfect! I would give her 10 stars if I could. Was concerned about coronavirus measures going in but I don't know how they could have been any better or safer. (Broke my glasses so I had no choice.) Glasses and all surfaces cleaned disinfected after each customer. Plastic barrier shields around back of machines when doctor needs to get close to look at your eyes. Less expensive then Costco which has been my go-to in the past. I cannot imagine having a better experience. They are that good. If you look at her Yelp reviews she has a perfect five except for one disgruntled one star that was a delivery issue and is no reflection on her. Otherwise, she's perfect! read more

i got my glasses from this place last year I went for a re exam and had to get new glasses when I went to pick it up this young Chinese guy was there and told me he was the manager he got the glasses out of box and handed it to me. I asked if I could have a napkin to wipe it due to this thing called COVID. The Chinese guy rudely told me they are disinfected in the factory as though he owns the factory and personally felt insulted and told me it does not need to be disinfected so I said fine give me a napkin I wipe it myself. He very reluctantly wiped the glasses. in the past two years Omar an employee of the place had help me extremely nice and tentative guy. For my next exam and glasses I will definitely go somewhere else perfect example of a boy getting a job because of family and not because he is qualified this doctor should distinguish between family business and caring for general public. read more

I came to this office in desperation as I have needed contacts for years and could not seem to find a doctor whom 1. worked on the weekends 2. was willing to order biofinity contacts. The Doctor was upbeat, welcoming, happy and really friendly. I actually enjoyed the entire experience here. She was able to order the contacts I wanted and believe it or not, I can actually wear them without feeling like sand is in my eye (Acuvue). Michelle at the front was very friendly, polite and accommodating. She stuck with us for awhile picking out glasses and helping us get the best deal. The only complaint I do have, is that I have had the same eye insurance my whole life. Michelle tried to tell me that my insurance did not cover a pair of glasses. I was very confused and she continued to tell me that she called and checked already. I literally ALMOST spent 2-$300 on a pair of glasses when I finally said one last time, "I know I am not crazy I have always been able to get 2 pairs of glasses for 20 years now." Michelle called, which was a quick maybe 20 second phone call and informed me that VSP was out of network for eye glasses.
