Do NOT come here. Dr. Nhuan Tran will charge you an arm and a leg for a contact fitting and not even follow up with you! He just wants your money and to be done with you within 5 minutes. I've been going to Dr. Tran for YEARS because he is the closest optometrist to me. I tried a new optometrist the other day and it truly opened my eyes to how poorly Target Optical treats patients and what I've been missing out on. I am not high maintenance. I am not demanding. I just want to be able to see clearly and find contacts that are a good fit for me. Over the last several years, I thought it was a good thing that Dr. Tran only spent less than 5 minutes with me because to me that meant efficiency. Boy, was I wrong... I decided to start wearing contact lenses a couple of years ago so I had to pay $40 on top of the $25 eye exam for a "contact fitting" (yes, I have insurance). Yes, you always pay more for a contact fitting but if I'm gonna be dishing out $40 extra, I expect more than what Dr. Tran offered me. Dr. Tran made it seem like it was $40 for ONE trial pair of lenses and small sample bottle of contact solution. What the new optometrist I went to taught me was that you are supposed to trial different pairs of contact lenses and come back for a follow up so you can find the perfect pair for YOU. If you don't like the pair you're initially given, you follow up and try a different pair. With Dr. Tran and Target Optical, he basically forced a pair of Acuvue Oasys 2-week lenses on me and had me order a supply through his optometry technicians the same day of my exam. The last couple of years the only lenses I ever knew were Acuvue Oasys. I blindly trusted Dr. Tran to give me the lenses that were best for my eyes. I didn't know I could try monthly pairs or even daily pairs. How many other brands was I missing out on? A lot! After going to a new optometry office, I realized I really do not like Acuvue Oasys. They always dry out really quickly for me and even fall out of my eyes later during the day. Dr. Tran would know that had he bothered to follow up with me and properly educate me on the multitude of options for other contact lenses out there. Not all Target Opticals are the same. I've been to a few and this one is far superior to the others. Why you ask? It's because of Jody. He has great customer service and knows more about your insurance plan than you do. He'll give you tips on what you should do to save money and what your insurance will pay for/not pay for. He was at the Frisco Target Optical over by Stonebriar Mall but has transferred to this location until the Mesquite Target opens. My husband works in Frisco and went to see Jody at the Frisco location. I almost drove all the way up there from Garland to go see him but didn't want to drive so far with a child who wanted to stay at home and play video games. Plus, it was really pouring this particular day that I went to get my eyes examined. Boy was I glad to find out that he was here at the Garland location. Jody was very patient and helped me pick out a pair of great looking glasses and sun glasses. read more

Nhuan Tran, OD has the WORST BEDSIDE MANNER EVER!!! He and his secretary hardly acknowledge you when you walk in, let alone say hello. Went here today to get a copy of my prescription to use for glasses purchased at another Target location. He charged me $5.00 for a copy of my prescription (1 piece of paper). He said it was policy because people keep losing their prescriptions. I have never in my life gone to a doctor's office that charged me to get a copy of MY OWN PRESCRIPTION! There are better optometrists out there. Please find another one. read more

I registered on the website and verified my insurance and made the appt. When i got there i was asked to verify my ins again and the asian guy could Not find it . when i asked him to see the info he inputed it was all wrong i was not an employee of target but he said thats all he could do. I asked to speak to the gm and she was even more rude and told me they did not take VSP eye insurance. But that is not what vsp says nor your website. I got home and check that Dr tran was the worst in the area adding extra charges and not verifying insurance. Maybe target needs to reconsider Dr Trans practice and maybe close the optical store. Find another eye place and doctor to go to they will treat you horribly. Will never go there again read more

My husband and I were traveling in Dallas. I had lost a contact lens. Luckily, we saw Target Optical as we were passing by Garland. I couldn't just a buy a lens because my prescription had expired. I had a totally unsatisfactory, unprofessional experience. I had a contact exam, was told one contact was special order, and would be available in 2 or 3 days later. Ten days later I returned for my lenses and prescription. I was handed two little boxes marked "sample", told this left lens, this right lens, goodbye. No fitting, no follow up. I had to ask and wait for a written prescription to get new contacts elsewhere. read more

I was willing to forgive the fact that Dr. Nhuan Tran was 25 minutes late to my initial appointment with him. However, this morning I called because one of the new brand contacts he gave me to try ripped in my eye. I wasn't able to remove the entire contact myself, and couldn't see the rest of it. So I called his office and spoke to his receptionist. I told her I needed to see Dr. Nhuan Tran immediately if possible because there was a piece of contact still stuck in my eye, and that I also wanted to change my prescription back to my old contacts that never gave me trouble like this. She asked if I could wait an hour or so and come in. I hesitated because I thought for this sort of situation, they would find a way to quickly squeeze me in just to find the rest of the contact floating in my eye that was extremely painful. I hung up and headed there. I waited in the waiting room for a little over a half an hour. When Dr. Nhuan Tran came out, the receptionist told him I was there to change my prescription; she said nothing of the more pressing issue as to why I was there waiting. He didn't acknowledge me at all the whole time I was sitting there, and then he called his next client in. I stood up to say something, and the receptionist said she had my script all printed and I was good to go. I stopped Dr. Nhuan Tran before he shut his door and asked if I could, at the very least, get a sample pair of my new script since it was obvious from the way they were treating me I was more of a nuisance and it wouldn't matter to ask again for him to help me with my eye. He seemed put out, went into his office, and brought out two mismatched pairs of contacts for me. I looked at them and then at him, and he said even though they weren't the same brand or my brand that I asked for, they should work just fine. Then he shut his door to help his next appointment. This review is for the optometrist connected to Target. It seems that Dr. Tran and his associates don't know how to work a fax machine or a telephone. I asked him if he could fax my prescriptions for both glasses and contacts to a store for me. He asked if he could just email them to me. I replied that they needed them faxed to them and that this store would not accept an emailed copy. He asked me for the fax number, I gave it to him, thanked him and said goodbye. This was at 10:09AM. When I got out of work, I called the store to make sure they received the fax. THEY DID NOT. Wow! How hard is it to fax two sheets of paper to one number???? Him and his office had 8 whole hours to do it and they were unable to complete this simple two minute task. Was the fax machine broken? If so, then please call me and let me know, so that I can come pick them up in person. Would it not go through? Again, let me know. I will no longer be using him or his services. read more

Charged an extra $60 for a contact lens "fitting fee" that no one mentioned over the phone, had me out in under 10 minutes and dismissed "have a nice day" with "uh huh" not even bothering to make eye contact. If I hadn't just broke my only pair of glasses at 3 in the afternoon and didn't have to go to work at 1am this coming morning I would've gone anywhere else. Dr Nhuan Tran was kind of a jerk, maybe he was having a bad day... The target employees in the front who handle the glasses and contacts/ordering were quite pleasant to interact with in sharp contrast. read more

i wouldn't go back for anything. The doctor (money machine) Nhuan Tran was so quick in his examination I couldn't help but wonder if his main concern was more about how many patient he can see or was it providing a quality eye exam, clearly it's about the numbers not patients he could see. I left there feeling like i received an exam that would be way below any ones minimum standard. In the 15 minutes i was there he had examined 3 patients...if you are looking for a place where you can deposit your money and get little in return Target optical is the place for you. i spoke to the Target District Manager Joe Larra and his solution was he would pay 1/2 of a re-exam elsewhere or go back to Tran for a re-exam... Why would I choose to go back ???? Now i have to spend more money to get what i should have received in the first place. Makes me want to stop shopping at Target for anything.
