A friend turned me on to Tarasco's and I couldn't wait to come back. Today I was in the mood for a crispy taco, which wasn't on the menu. Our sweet, sweet waiter pointed out a chalk board offering on the wall of Tacos Dorados: 3 crispy tacos with potato, beans and rice. It was heaven! They will be offered regularly h e said. This is a hidden gem in South Federal. The food is authentic Michoacán cuisine, every time I eat there reminds me of my short stay in the southern state of Mexico. Enchiladas and Mole are my first option, but the uchepos and atole are a Time Machine! Authentic Mexican that really understands vegan and vegetarian options?!? I thought it was too good to be true until I had lunch at Tarascos. Most vegetarians settle for bean enchiladas when we go out for Mexican. I had MULTIPLE vegetarian enchiladas options to choose from. I went with the mushroom enchiladas and loved them! The fresh juice bar was a welcome option for non-alcoholic amazingness. I usually drink really sugary drinks with Mexican food so fresh juice was a much better option. My wife, 2 daughters and I stopped at Tarasco's on a whim last night and we are very glad we did so--true, authentic inland Mexican food served here! We go to Jalisco (Vallarta) quite a lot but the food there is coastal, mostly mariscos and some decent pozole. However, last night took me to Michoacan, I had amazing enchiladas, perfect rice and creamy, delish beans. My kids and wife shared shrimp street tacos, shrimp fajitas and guacamole with totopos...the owner (who also served us) remarked that it appeared we had licked the plates clean! We have been in Denver for almost 7 years now and always complain that the restaurants here do NOT compare with Mexican places in Chicago, many of which are inland cuisine, more like Mexico City and León, etc...while I like mariscos, I get sick of it and was really craving home-cooking style Mexican food and this dude's mole was perfect!!! Spicy, super flavorful and awesome on top of perfect chicken enchiladas. Very nice people working there, Noah the owner is affable and a good host. Great service and food. I decided to try something new & different to me- chicken mole. It was good but I probably would not get it again. It was definitely spicy! The man who waited on us, who I think also made the food, was so friendly and attentive. He clearly took pride in the food he prepared and he was so appreciative of our comments. This is so wonderful. Tarasco's doesn't serve traditional vegan Mexican food that is typical in New York City: tempeh tacos or enchiladas with shredded tofu and cashew cheese. It's authentic Mexican food, made vegan by omitting or substituting ingredients. They're not trying to brand themselves as healthy, or trendy, with Mexican inspired names, like "La Fiesta Quinoa Bowl with Kale". This is real Mexican food! It's such a treat for me, given that ever since becoming a vegan, Mexican food, in my experiences, has always been "Mexican inspired" quinoa bowls and sad salads. Tarasco's helped me turn a corner as a vegan, to appreciate it and embrace it even more. I love Tarasco's, and would definitely come back! read more

Horrible service, as we arrived she was very unprofessional and cursing to the kitchen lady in front of my son that is only five years old, I asked what kind of natural juice you have available and the answer was checked the menu. We order enchiladas placerás and had a horrible flavor we let them know and the kitchen lady basically told us that it was not her problem. We were a big fan of this place. We came because of the great Yelp reviews, and we were rewarded with a great meal. We started with some chips and salsa (free) and some guacamole. The guacamole was so fresh and delicious that we ordered a second one. My wife ordered the spinach enchiladas. Cool twist is that they had an over easy egg on top of it. She absolutely loved it and stuffed herself until she was in pain. She didn't regret it. I ordered the Alambre plate, which is basically a plate of grilled deliciousness (meats, veggies, etc.) topped with a bunch of melted cheese, and served with tortillas. It was a great alambre, and I'd get it again. The tortillas were fresh and warm. Just perfect. I also ordered the Birria, which is basically a slow cooked beef stew. The broth had a LOT of grease in it, but the dish was delicious. Hot, tasty, and I'd get it again. The place only has like 7 tables, so I'm sure it's hard to get a table during peak hours, but we showed up at 2:30pm so it wasn't an issue. Definitely try this place! read more

I rarely give any place five stars. I did it for this place. Why? Well...It's difficult to put into words how awesome the food is here. The mole is excellent, the birria is phenomenal and I can't wait to try every other item on their menu. Torascos offers a small dining room, modestly decorated in all its hole-in-the-wall charm. Last summer, we asked our friend Bear which restaurant served the best mole in Denver.  He was able to give us a quick answer, Tarasco's! This nuevo latino cuisine is Michoacan style. Bob absolutely adores the Mole 7 Chiles Plate. I really like their carnitas chimichangas. You can order a side of mole that is about 8 oz for only $4. I usually get a side for my chimichangas, but only eat a little at the restaurant and end up taking most of it home to make our own mole concoction another evening. Bob describes the moly as very "rich and dark with deep flavors." The restaurant is very small, and only has about eight tables. I've always seen it fairly full during dinner time. The first time we tried to find it, we almost drove passed it. It is a small hole-in-the-wall part of a strip mall, tucked between a pot shop and a Vietnamese karaoke bar northeast of the intersection of Federal Boulevard and Virginia. During our last visit Bob mentioned that the salsa was spicy. The waitress misheard him, and thought he said "can I get some spicy salsa." She came back with a jar of really thick salsa with a tiny spoon. She said "this is the spiciest salsa we have." I took a tiny bite, and it knocked my socks off. They don't serve alcohol, so don't go if you're in the mood for a beer or a margarita. They have a large variety of Mexican soft drinks, horchata, and aguas frescas. They have a sister property not too far away on Morrison Street, called Frida's, in honor of Frida Kahlo. We only tried it once, but weren't as impressed. They were painting the inside of the restaurant during dinner time, so the smell of paint thinner didn't sit the right way with our meal. read more

When restaurants claim to have the best of (then fill in the blank), I'm always a bit dubious. But when I took my first bite of the mole chicken, I knew the accolades were well deserved. Let's back up first to the chips and salsa and starter. The chips and salsa are a hallmark of a good Mexican restaurant for me. These seemed to be made in house and were crunchy and fresh. I am not a fan of chunky salsa and this salsa was the smooth, spicy blend I love. We ordered the grilled cactus for an appetizer. My husband wasn't so much a fan but then he also doesn't care for okra which I think has a similar texture to the inside of a cactus. It worked out well for me as I got all the cactus. And then the main dish arrived. A big plate (I had half for dinner and half for lunch the next day) of chicken mole appeared before me. I took my first bite and was overwhelmed with amazing flavors having a party in my mouth. It was all I could do to not overeat and when I lovingly scraped my leftovers into the to-go box, I swiped my finger at least once around the plate to get more of that insanely good mole sauce. read more

It's a hole in the wall. I don't mind that. The lack of flavor in my Carne Asada Plate I mind. The tough meat magnified the creeping doubt that it's either I chose the wrong dish or this place is not for me. The colorful decor couldn't cheer me up. My mind set on finding a tasty meal was lost on me that very moment. The Yelp world sometimes could be dark and frustrating with lackluster food like this one. I'd definitely move on in search of a better caliber of Carne Asada. read more

Time : 18:05hrs. AUGUST 13th 2011 Saturday, was here with 11 other frens who are foodies just like me for a Michoacan Dinner Feast Galore. Our seats are all set for us, though I cant deny I was running late for at least 5 minutes and my frens were all there already. Noe, and his crew were pleased to have us and there was 2 other couple patrons there too during that evening. From what I could recall these were what my frens ordered that evening : * Mole 7 Chiles * Pozole * Birria De Borrego * Tamales * Guacamole * Jalapeppers * Nopales Asados ~ Grilled Cactus * Ensalada De Nopales * Chimichanga * Chille Relleno Plate * Huaraches * Chilaquiles Verdes o Rojos * Flan * Churros As for me I opt for the Steak Tacos. If I am not mistaken, our waitstaff also offer us the Charred Jalapenos with Soy sauce. I think that evening, I enjoyed my share of Jugo Terapia, aka Fruit Juices more than anything else. First because it was so HOT outside, and I am just SO thirsty more than being hungry. I orded the Fridas and Fantastic 4. Each Jugo Terapia is $4.50. All in all, the dinner was a success. Though the kitchen need to "hassle" to cook our order in time for our big group, everyone is happy with their order. From my fren's feedback, they dont mind returning and perhaps order what they did not order for their future visits. Another ADDED bonus, we are issued separate checks for our big group. For this, I cant thank Noe enough. Thank you Noe, and Tarasco's New Latino Cuisine's crew for having us and to this I also want to take this opportunity to give my thanks to our fellow yelper, Thomas S. who I have exchanged emails with, many moons ago with regards to Michoacan cuisine. This is one of our favorite spots to bring our vegan family members! The nopales are a particular favorite of theirs, and I love the tamal de elote plate so much I almost always get that. Though if you ever need warming up on a cold wintery night, their pozole is super delicious and they offer a huge portion. read more

This tiny hole in the wall, puts out really great food. They even cater to Vegans/and Vegetarians. I had had a carnita chimichanga a while ago, which was food porn. Our friend who is a newer vegan was leaving on a bike tour, and- he loves Mexican chow. The great little cantinas serving up the authentic stuff, are usually not suitable for restricted diets- not Tarasco's. My boyfriend had the cubano torta, and we shared a delicious agua fresca. They also make some of the best smoothies in town- what? A Mexican restaurant with a whole page of smoothies. I had the carnita chimi again, and our friend had a vegan chimi. We all really enjoyed our food. There are only 5 or 6 tables, so it is better to time your eating here ,non prime. The restaurant has one server usually- so be patient- this isn't Chilli's! Mom and pop places, are worth the wait, especially if the food is this good. My first visit I had a tamale, and it has been the only thing I have eaten here, I was not crazy about. read more

We got the posole, Baja fish tacos, smothered carnitas burrito, and a steak torta and it was all delicious. My only complaint is that the menu is so big I'll have to come back at least 5 more times to try everything I'm interested in (can't wait to try the steak and nopales huaraches, the Tarasco soup, and more juices). read more

Amazing selection of vegetarian and vegan Mexican options! So nice to have this lovely option. They are very well informed and even ask if you want things to be vegan or not when you order a meal with cheese. They have a full menu of vegetarian and vegan options that are clearly marked and easy to see. The food itself is flavorful and super fresh! No soggy creamed spinach here. All the veggies and fresh and crisp and they are complemented just perfectly with sauces, vegetarian beans, cheeses, and rice. The chimichanga made vegetarian with the carrot and potato filling was especially tasty. The sauce on top was amazing. They offer a ton of fresh fruit juices and smoothies and even have a vegan horchata! The service can be a little slow so allow some time for that. But the people are nice and working hard. read more

I went on a trip to Denver a few months back and forgot to leave an AMAZING review. My friend and I went out to Denver for the weekend and found this gem. I got the vegan chimichangas and was not disappointed. Their refried beans are some of the best I have ever had. We also got the nachos (vegan) and she got the enchiladas. Next time I go to Denver I am 100% going back! The wait staff was incredibly nice and knowledgeable about what was vegan on the menu. The decorations and atmosphere was also super cute! Highly recommend stopping in! The ONLY bad thing is he parking was really hard to get out of but that does not take away from the amazing grub they have. read more

What a gem! Don't let the unassuming exterior turn you away - the inside is intimate, super cute with inspirational quotes all over and colorful Mexican decor. Chips and salsa come out for free and the menu is extensive with a variety of veggie options too. I absolutely loved the smoothie, juice and agua fresca options - I had the tuti fruiti and it was creamy and filling and delicious. You don't even miss the alcohol (this place is booze free) because of all the delicious, fresh squeezed and blended juice and fruit water options. Vegan Review: I very much appreciated that all the vegan items were labeled on the menu. We got a plate of tamale de elote to share in addition to the provided salsa and chips. We initially thought it was weird to have our corn tamale in the salsa verde but it grew on us as we ate more. I might still prefer my corn tamales plain but this was an interesting change. The salsa with chips was just inbetween spicy and mild for me so I was able to douse my chips and eat them with ease. My mom, on the other hand, would have preferred spicier. We were also surprised that the rice was white and plain since we are used to a red Mexican rice, but that was fine. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend. We came here for dinner after sunset via the bus and found that the area was a little sketchy so it's something to be aware of. read more

We are from Orange County Claifornia and have been living in Colorado for 13 years. We live in Highlands Ranch and realize if we want delicious authentic Mexican food we have to drive to another area to find it! After searching on Yelp we decided this was the place to go. Yes i know Coloradoans love green chile smothered on everything- its the Colorado way but not the Mexican way! They do have it at this restaurant but its not a main feature. We ordered the whuarache with steak and cactus and it was amazing! Popping with flavor. And they bring 2 sauces u can add to your dish- a mild green one and spicier red- both delicious! We also ordered The Enmolada enchildas with mole sauce. Their mole has won awards and we can see why! With over 40 ingredients it is perfection! Thoroughly enjoyed both meals. We also got to talk to the owner who was so welcoming, genuine and kind. Hes from Tijuana and owned a restaurant there which explains why the food is soooo delicious and authentic!
