The burrito was cheap, like $4.50. It is a smaller burrito, similar in size to a Santiagos burrito, but at that price, it is a good value. The woman working the window was very pleasant and friendly. This was a nice surprise. I will be back to explore the rest of the menu. Stopped in on a random Thursday morning as my BMW was in the shop a few blocks away getting some work done. Veronica was behind the counter and she was so kind and helpful, I ordered a handheld steak breakfast burrito and a coffee and sat down. I've seen some people refer to this place as "divey" and in my opinion that is just rude. It was very clean with plenty of comfortable booth seating and lovely plants everywhere that made it a very nice place to spend some time. The steak burrito was excellent and I said so to Veronica, and she let me know that they make their delicious tortillas in-house from scratch. Greasy, but tasty! That's all I can say when it comes to the chorizo breakfast burrito. My boyfriend and I stopped by here to pick up some breakfast burritos to-go on the way up to the mountains. I love tacos! After reading yelper reviews of El Zarape I was psyched to check it out. Perhaps there is another El Zarape? The one we visited did not impress me at all. Not even close to what I was expecting in terms of the food. I was expecting a small, neighborhood, hole-in-the-wall type restaurant which is fine with me. What I wasn't expecting was greasy, nearly uneatable chips (literally they had pools of grease floating in most of the chips causing them to be soft, not crispy) along with fatty chicken (including tendons) in the chicken tacos. On the plus side, the carnitas tacos were pretty good, the pork was crispy and well seasoned and the corn tortillas were fresh - but overall nothing to rave about. El Zarape is a good value ($1.50 per taco) but I'd personally pay a bit more for better ingredients. Jack n Grill is more expensive but their taco sampler plate is worth it.
