afternoon tea with smoked salmon sandwich, miniature scones, and a selection of that day's pastries

This has become my favorite spot in Cork!! It's such a special place. The interior is cozy and reminds me of visiting my aunt's house when I was a kid. There's little decorative gnomes and china everywhere. The space is relatively small, but the restaurant makes good use of it by squeezing in as many tables as possible without making it feel too crowded. Even though this place isn't something my boyfriend would typically enjoy, he loves the steak and mushroom baguette. He was also impressed by the quality of the fries that come with it, although he didn't touch the salad (I did, and it was lovely). I always order the afternoon tea. For 20€, it's more than enough food and it's beautifully presented. Every time it's served, I feel like a princess. This is definitely the place to go if you need to treat yourself and embrace your feminine energy.

We were excited by the good reviews and decided to check this place out. Service was friendly, food was quick and cheap. I liked how cute the inside was and the little library section. I wasn't super excited with the food. The scone I had was dry and my daughter's croissant was burned. The cappuccino was good.

My tea was absolutely grand. Hot and delicious. Service was really good. I wasn't a fan of my sand which special I chose but I was happy I got to experience the charm of the tea room.

Lovely vegetarian breakfast - the baked beans had a nice spice and the other two in our party each loved their brekkie.

Great breakfast with friends at Tara's - I had the veg breakfast, my wife had scrambled eggs with a scone and our friend had the medium breakfast with a pot of tea. Espresso and coffee drinks were top notch and the staff was super friendly. Only a small knock for getting poached eggs that were a little over done. The place is a tad small so may have to wait for a table but well worth the wait. If we go back we'll ask to swap the regular toast for soda bread.

Nice and cozy place to enjoy lunch or afternoon tea in cork. The decoration is really vintage with all these Chinese cups but I like it ! The music is really retro and I really appreciated it ! I ordered a quiche with salad mix on the side with a camomile herbal tea and a iced lemon cake for dessert. Everything was delicious and the staff was nice and smiling ! I warmly recommend this place!

Such a cute and adorable place to stop in for breakfast/brunch, or an afternoon tea or coffee. The staff was very friendly and the food was very tasty. Prices are great for the quality of food and service. Highly recommend stopping by here.

Had a delicious breakfast with friends! The inside was so cozy and the food was yum-tastic! We had a little boy with us who is not so easily impressed and he said they were the best pancakes ever! They also have the cutest tea pots and cups/saucers for sale and I snagged one

Best breakfast spot that we had during our trip to Europe! The decor is super cute, especially the little corner with bookshelves. We each ordered the full Irish breakfast... YUM! Great service and prices too!

Medium breakfast and AMAZING freshly squeezed orange juice!

Great tea house! Lots if local people came in around 12/12:30. I had the Medium Breakfast, which was good and my pot of tea was excellent too. I love the decor and feeling in the place and the staff are very nice. I might try a scone or some other pastries next time as they looked great! Great place to have a leisurely brunch/ cup of tea or coffee.

Twice, we had to ask other wait staff for assistance and both times they were very attentive. The "southern fried Chicken Wings" tasted warmed up and flavorless. My wife ordered a medium filet that showed up well past done. The presentation was bush league and we sent it back. The second pass was slightly better; edible. I ordered the lamb. The lamb was cooked perfectly; though under seasoned. I probably would have had no problem with the lamb had the other issues I mentioned been absent. To sum it up, the reputation this restaurant has, was absolutely not our experience.

The ambiance is definitely more upscale and service from staff was quite good. For my entreé I had the duck confit with a local cider. The duck was tender and had a good flavor to it. We had a sticky toffee pudding for dessert, and while it was very good, having it accompanied with creme instead of ice cream was a bit disappointing, as the pudding itself was quite rich. All and all, it was a great experience at a good price, and I'd recommend it.

The market is a bustling bee hive of produce farmers, butchers, chocolatiers, of local and organic fresh food to include spices and an abundance of gastro delights from afar. The all wood construction and arched ceiling of this 18th century building make it visually appealing to add to the sensory adventure of fresh and cooking food. Farmgate is a bit small as most European cafes are but was rich in its menu offerings! I made reservations via Open Table for lunch for myself and was greeted at the stairs as seating goes all around an atrium open air looking down on the market below. My server carefully considered my food intolerance to gluten and dairy and made sure I was ok with butter, the service was top notch, not rushed and not invasive as I sat and slowly sipped in the scenery and scents. I ordered a chicken with lentils, parsnips, and carrots and the chicken was herbed nicely, moist and succulent served over tasty lentils that were not bitter but light and full of flavor, buttery parsnips and carrots not overcooked. I had some extra vegetables as a replacement for the mashed potatoes as they have cream in them and the veggies were crisp and fresh. The menu options are extensive for the size of the kitchen and obviously benefit from having fresh seafood, butchers and produce downstairs such that they had some of everything on the menu! You can tell the cook/chef takes pride in his preparation and the presentation was artistic as well. The thick wooden tables and height ceilings gave this place a feeling of long standing history and the staff appeared pleased to work there in this historic setting, making good fresh local food to share. I highly recommend this cafe as a must do for Cork! The prices were very reasonable, the service and food came without an arduous wait, a memorable experience in a town of high food standards!
