Exceptionally good. This has quickly become a regular place for brunch and lunch. Good, locally sourced and made good.

Scurry away your thoughts of grabbing some java at a convenience store (or even at your hotel) and saddle on up to my newest, most favorite spot on earth. Filter is here to save your day! On a recent weekend morning I was up early (thanks baby!) and in need of coffee. While leisurely strolling along the river (and with a bit of help from my Yelp app) I came upon Filter, which was just opening its doors, hauling in jugs of milks for their coffee artistry endeavors. A sign if I ever saw one. Caffeine was to be mine. My latte was gorgeous (photo below) and hit the spot. The real stuff. I wish there was a Filter in every city in which I visit in the world, I'd not have to worry about caffeine reduction anxiety. Ha, I'm kidding! Sort of. *Small seating area (a few high tables) and pastries/light sandwiches on offer as well.

I had a Guatemalan filter coffee with a distinct taste of chocolate, delicious! I'm not a coffee Nerd, not really, but I know when I walk into a place and i'm out of my depth that something special is happening. Filter Coffees, weird coffee paraphernalia... soya milk! This place is gonna be massive for O'Sullivan's Quay. They built the place themselves, laid the floor, made the counters from old doors and wardrobes. Its a TINY space, but there is a more space than you think to sit, around by the espresso bar etc.... Despite the fact that I live on the other side of the city, I will be visiting this tasty little spot regularly. Its worth the walk.

This is truly a reader's dream place. The fare is minimal but fresh and delicious from the bits we tried. This brings me to the hot chocolate. Hubby had the tall mug of steaming milk placed in front of him with an enormous block of chocolate on a stick - like a huge square lollipop. The idea was to stick it in the milk and stir until melted. There was a choice of white, milk or dark if I remember correctly (definitely more than just the white chocolate option). He absolutely LOVED it and declared it to be the best he had ever had - check out the photos. The ONLY reason they didn't get a 5 star was due to the lack of seating. We had to wait a while to get a seat and I'm not sure what they could do about that, but if you only have a limited amount of time in Kinsale, you may just want to pop your head in first to see if there is anything available.

She was a bit in the curt side- but was kind in switching a few tarts to bars and made an espresso for my guy. Prices were a bit high, as to be expected in a town like this. the next morning we woke to try our selections. My scone had raisins (I would have preferred cranberries) and was quite dry and bland, even for a "day old" bite. It tasted basically like flour and some raisins from time to time. Everyone else opted for the barista's favorite: some berry cobbler bar. The next morning, all their pastry bags were dripping with butter/oil. I don't think anyone had more than half their bar - everyone commented it was quite heavy and had wished they had went with another option. All in all - it got the job done: we were fed and ready to hit the road for another day of exploring the countryside. But, next time we may opt for another place to pick up selections if we find ourselves in town again.
