Happened by The Spitjack and thought we would give it a try. It was a Saturday night and they were pretty busy. They were able to get us seated right away. We ordered the French onion soup, short beef ribs and pork ribs. The soup came out piping hot and not salty (a lot different than we get in Arizona). The beef short ribs were amazing! The pork ribs were tender and fell right off the bone. I also had to try the garlic mashed potatoes. They were the best I've ever had. Great experience and great service. read more

Very good food and the service was remarkable. We had a party of eight and some may say we are a challenge but a delightful bunch. Food came out all at once. Be aware that the menu had flat pricing which means you had to have a main with either a starter or dessert. This was not an issue for us. read more

We went here for brunch and it was ok. I got the golden latte which was pretty good. The brunch menu is not that amazing. I wish there was more of the roasted meats on there. It's mostly toast items. I read and saw a lot of videos on this place so even though we were eating midweek, I make a reservation for 4. I would definitely still make one if you are in a group larger than 2 as it filled up by 10AM. We started with coffees and they did have a lot of healthy juices as well. There was a mix up when we had someone order a mocha coffee and we ended up getting a rose coffee but it was still tasty, as was the tumeric latte. For our mains we got the turkish eggs, the fried halloumi with the avocado toast, the berry french toast, and the normal pancakes. Portion size was huge but meals came out quick. I will say- the food was all good but did really feel like an American spot rather than something unique. The french toast was great but could actually use a tiny bit less of the berry sauce, and the fried halloumi tasted more like a mozzerella stick than halloumi. Everything was good, do not get me wrong, but I did think if this place had a line, I am not sure it was worth the wait to eat something I could eat in NYC or DC. read more

For our last lunch in Cork, Ireland, we thought it fitting to enjoy a Sunday roast. The Spit Jack is located right in the bustling heart of Cork. We made a same-day reservation without any trouble, thanks to the restaurant's spacious two-story dining facility. We were seated on the second floor. For the Sunday roast, diners can choose either a two- or three-course fixed-price meal. My partner and I decided to share both appetizers and main courses. For appetizers, we shared vegetable soup with bread and crispy fried calamari. For our main course, we chose the roast platter: two slices of beef, pork belly, and rotisserie chicken, served with mashed potatoes, bread, and carrots. It was a hearty meal--the roasts were delicious and generously portioned for two people. After reading many of the reviews for Spitjack, we choose to come here for breakfast. I'd say that our experience was a disappointment. The service was very nice and attentive, the black tea was flavorful though the pot was small for breakfast. The ambience is nice and the restaurant was relatively full. The good was a real disappointment. It was heavy, even the vegetarian options weren't light. The veggie bap had a heavy sauce which really filled my wife even before she finished the bap. And everything was fried. The halloumi and eggs didn't indicate the Benedict sauce. This voice was a bit better but still only 'good' at best. The Americano coffee was weak and without much flavor. Frankly, I don't recommend this restaurant for breakfast. read more

we came without a reservation around noon and were seated immediately in the upstairs section. they decorated really nicely for the holidays, and the atmosphere was festive and cozy. i ordered the berry and mascarpone french toast and my partner ordered the huevos rancheros. despite how busy they were, service was fast and they gave us multiple pitchers to refill our water with when they ran dry. i really enjoyed the berry french toast; it wasn't too sweet and the mascarpone really complimented the tartness of the berries. if you're looking for traditional huevos rancheros, you won't find them here. the food was quite good, but they do serve it with beans on (albeit high quality) toast. it was too tomato-based and slightly sweet for my partner, but he could acknowledge that the food was good, just not to his tastes. the portion sizes were hearty and the food was filling. a reservation is definitely a good idea. read more

Stopped in here during a very short pit stop on a day tour to Blarney. I wanted to get off the beaten path and away from the big tourist spots, and this place fit the bill. Not only did they turn out my food in under 40 minutes, my waitress Nancy was also very accommodating when I requested a switch of bread from the usual menu. On a rainy Sunday evening after a long day of exploring, we popped into Spitjack hoping they had a free table. The hostess worked her magic and found us a place to sit quickly. The restaurant has an extensive cocktail menu, especially gin drinks, and a good selection of wine and beer. The food menu is reasonable sized and heavily weighted with pork and chicken. But it also offers numerous tempting vegetarian options. I ordered the pork empanadas to start and the rotisserie chicken for my main. McDreamy ordered the fish cake and the pork ribs for his main. We didn't talk much during the meal because we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The empanada was tasty but not too spicy. The chicken was flavorful and moist. McDreamy was very happy with his fish cake and left nothing but cleaned rib bones after finishing his main dish. The restaurant is small and cozy. The noise level was a low hum and we were able to hold a conversation before we were served the yummy dishes. The servers were friendly and attentive but not overbearing. I had the meat tasting board along with some vegetables and they all tasted great! The dessert menu itself is worthy of its own restaurant Important note: the dinner is more high €€ maybe €€€ whereas the breakfast/brunch/lunch is closer to € or €€. Quick service despite a wait to get a table, delicious food, and a fantastic cappuccino. What more could I ask for after 22 hour travel the day before. The falafel toast w/ avocado, and added poached eggs was exactly what I needed. I also appreciate that I didn't feel out of place needing a table for one, as I so often do. Pretty decent restaurant. Was eating solo so made a reservation which was just as well. Quite a few people turned away on a busy Monday night. Worth it though. I had a main only of pork ribs and very good fries. The ribs were good too, a full rack and the meat pretty much fell off the bones. I had a bottle of Campo de Flores which was somewhat spoiled by being served effectively at room temperature. A side order of a glass of ice resolved this problem but still.... We were seated right away upon entering, and the server immediately brought us waters and menus. I went for the Rose latte, as it sounded amazing, and I ordered the Salmon eggs benedict. The latte was truly delicious, with a lovely Turkish delight flavor, while the benedict was one of the best I've ever eaten. We decided to go for dessert, and I tried the lemon posset - this was not the greatest I've ever eaten, but definitely worth a try. Overall, good service, tasty food and coffee. Had a long day & simply wanted a great cocktail & dinner one evening. This place took me & my boyfriend right away & fed us some of the best food we'd had on this trip. Awful service! Got seated immediately and then ignored for 15 min. Not even a "hello" or a "I'll be right with you". After catching the attention of two servers, they looked away. This restaurant looks small but has multiple floors so we were able to get a seat quickly even on Friday night. The portions are HUGE so keep this in mind. My friend and I each got three courses and were nearly bursting at the end, but it was well worth it. We both got the goat cheese souffle to start, which was interesting and tasty. I had the ribs, which were divine, but as mentioned the portion for the main course was very big. I had the raspberry cheesecake for dessert which had a unique texture but was very tasty. My friend ordered the rhuburb crumble which was enough for three people. The cocktails are also unique and tasty. Had a nice brunch at the Spitjack. Excellent meal. Service was excellent. Nice attentive staff and super friendly. I had the pancakes, bacon, and maple syrup. Bacon was the star. It's incredible when you can get good crispy bacon in Cork. This was on par with some of the best bacon I've had in the US. The pancakes were ok, not great. They weren't bad but they were too thin. In between a crepe and a thick fluffy pancake. It's like it decided to be a fun full figured pancake but half way through the cooking, they had a change of heart and decide to be a crepe. Pick one please. Otherwise the flavor was ok. Some of the Eggs Benedict dishes looked amazing. Will try those next tome. read more
